So, I ended up activating the Upscaler's Scanline to demonstrate roughly how the visualization looks on a CRT TV. And the comparison is not about fairness or unfairness... the real goal of the video, besides showcasing how amazing Castlevania SOTN is on the Sega Genesis, is also to demonstrate that through AV (composite), the color transition is smoother and less pixelated. Issues with the Mega Drive, such as "fewer colors," end up disappearing, and its graphics become smoother, where dithering can turn into "real" transparency, for example.

Dracula saying ‼is amazing. 1. The sound is phenomenal. The music is top notch especially on the Tech Toy Mega Drive 2017. The voices are stunning. Very clear and in English. 2. Even though I prefer the Sega Model 2 with RGB I feel the AV composite with scan lines would match TVs at the time if this was ported to the Genesis.

RGB cables was just something we didn’t see…maybe if you hung out at a hi-fi store, they would clue you in on them…but even then. I doubt high end home theater tech and video games crossed over much for most people at that time.
This was a surprisingly good comparison. Most software filters get scanlines and "CRT filters" wrong because they make inaccurate or flat-out incorrect assumptions about how the light from colors actually bled together on real CRT TVs. The physical grilles weren't perfect, in some cases the apertures not even that small, and the light coming through wasn't usually from LED light, so the bleed was in all directions and sometimes _really_ strong. While those of us who grew up through it usually wanted the blocky pixels before polygons became a thing, we understood that sometimes CRT monitors were all people had to work with for games, both on the development and the play side.

If I had to guess, he made pre-calculated rolling sprites. Y’know, rotate them in an art editor, fine tune them a little bit, and use those as any other sprite

This Tectoy Mega Drive 2017 was the last legitimate Sega Genesis (Official product with Sega's approval) released in Brazil... it is compatible with Sega Genesis cartridges and also supports an SD card, on which you can create or play backups of the games you already own. One could say that the Mega Drive 2017 is an Official Sega Genesis with a built-in Everdrive As for the Master System, I can't say for sure... (They are currently selling a Master System)

I really like the bg music arrangements using the Genesis sound chip. The difference in black levels happens just with composite video or is a hardware thing?. If there is a difference in black levels from composite to rgb then, its necessary to compensate to assure proper black levels on both captures.
The developer of this homebrew Castlevania is very talented and have a lot of surprises in him. Beside making great ports and having good knowledge of how to develop games he also know how to speak Chinese as well. He have a Chinese youtube channel too documenting his homebrew progress in it. Special thanks to pyron too for his amazing musical work as well. He manage to get so much out of the megadrive soundchip to made the music so close to the 32 bit version ones.

So I'm confused - did someone make a demo of SotN using actual Genesis hardware (and whatever the Tectoy Megadrive is)? If so, would it not be possible to port the entire SotN game to the Genesis using multiple carts and a password system, so that when plug in, say, Cart 2 you type in a password giving you all the items and such that you had on Cart 1. Honestly, I'm tech illiterate when it comes to stuff like this, and the non-linear way SotN is played would probably make this improbably, and perhaps even impossible. I could see a linear game using this concept - but then memory is also easier to come by these days. People are developing Atari 2600 games that are completely mind-blowing due to the fact that they have access to way more memory than developers had in the late 70's and early 80's, due to it being so cost prohibitive.
If I understand it right, this is being coded from the ground up to work for the Genesis' CPU. Simply putting the PSX game to Genesis cannot be done as their processor architecture is different (plus a boat load of other things like the speed and capacities of the processor and other units like the GPU). For a simpler comparison, you can't just plop in a windows .exe file and run it on your android phone (because the architecture is different, Windows is primarily x86-64 and Android for phones is ARM). I see your suggestions about how to record progress in this game. I think saving would be like how Super Metroid would handle it. The game and all its levels would be in one cart and it should have a battery to support saving progress.

In the US composite video was king at the time, but that's not necessarily the same story in Europe (and especially here in France). As far as I know, all 16-bit systems (PC-Engine included, even though it was released by several companies in each country and not officially by NEC) came out with RGB-capable SCART cables included in the box, which makes RGB the authentic option here. Not everything is cut and dry 🙂.

A luta entre o Alucard e a Morte nesta fase não devia existir. É um erro no próprio enredo. No original essa luta não existe, a Morte apenas retira o equipamento e foge. A razão disto é que a Morte não pode atentar contra o filho do Drácula, que é um príncipe. A luta acontece mais mais tarde quando se prova que, de facto, Alucard é um "traidor".

The audio is mostly thanks to Netos boot loader. Testing it on a stock Firecore gives unpleasant results, as one would expect.
RGB was already a thing when the Mega Drive was released.
