The cutout and presented result was definitely on-point, but understanding the mechanics of the simple circuit does require some prior basic knowledge about EE, such as charging/discharging Inductors (AC current when discharging right?), diodes/resistors, and dangers of shorting the circuit.

Fascinating, this is one of the areas that my love of Computers in general is built on, just the sheer amount of Engineering these things have. I followed an electronics degree course and had a 2 year "electronics and computers" minicourse prior to that over the same field. It does teach you how general circuits work and all but it's just basic level stuff (in regards to how hardware works that is; And since it's academic you'll be looking at low level circuits maybe mixed with some ampops at best... all else is going to be big stuff like transformers, power lines, etc). There is no course, at least in the coutry I live in, that is directed towards JUST computer hardware and how a computer works on a mechanical level (that's all I wanted and no matter how hard I looked there was none).
These courses focus a lot on software and how there's 1's and 0's and here's logic gates and here's addresses, here's how C/C++/Python interacts with RAM to make/edit a program or file but they dedicate nothing going into how a computer actually works with all those things mashed together, how components comunicate with eachother, how CPU receives, processes and sends information, what signals it sends/receives; Hell they don't even tell you how a motherboard works but for programming expect you to know how RAM does, somehow.
Then again, this is a recurring meme with university students from all over the world within various different courses... we are taught basics (sometimes not even that) and general info and then are expected to find out the rest by ourselves. I don't think there's even a master's (degree) for this subject. A lot of people that I've ever talked to that knew more intricate things about computers were self-taught... just goes to show.

as someone who knows far too much about this stuff than I have any right too, I was waiting to see how well you guys did, and you didn't disappoint. I was actually a tad giddy when you mentioned the older config of north and south bridge. I have fond memories of being way too concerned with which chips were used for the bridges on my early builds, despite the fact that they probably didn't do as much for me as I thought they did. I am a tad sad on that point that you didn't point out that the reason for the beefy VRM heatsinks is because PC builders got accustomed to seeing huge heat sinks on boards with killer chipsets, because the north bridge back when it was a thing actually needed it to handle the memory speeds and PCI/PCIe. Not to mention that integrated graphics used to be on the motherboard, not the processor. I still have a socket AM2+ board that has an Nvidia nForce 630a (geforce 7025) graphics chip. Anyway, PC builders got used to seeing heatsinks on high end motherboards, and now if you throw a bare board at us, we assume its low end. love the video, do more like it!

This is great, and i'd love a continued series where componentry is discussed with white boards and such. Explaining things like "memory speed" and why the numbers look like they do are great for us who want to know the WHY, not just the HOW.

Linus is the pewdiepie of tech channels.
Most popular due to targeted "oh my god" content with clickbait face thumbnails but actual little meaningful information. But entertains kids well enough.

No, he wants to grow his business. That false impression was fostered in order to establish the new media personalities he himself hired. He is brilliant in his own right, but chooses to give his personality a more accessible mass market approach. He’s also a great boss and force for good in tech.

I'm halfway through this video and have to stop to ask, where have these videos been all my life? This content is top tier as far as I'm concerned. I've seen over 100 of LTT's videos and this is definitely up there as one of the most useful.
