Dude.. Really? Lol same shit, different title. Great job trying to kiss his ass. Even with the money he made from doing this, he won't use that material and won't write the book. There are rumors coming from within his family ties that mention he is not interested in finishing it, but just milking every opportunity he can. I can stand behind it cuz I have heard it from his inner circle directly

Can't wait! Writing fantasy inspired from it now... what else can I do?!?
Cobblestone steps sat crooked and disheveled along the path. I wondered how merchants ever managed to take their wagons this way.
I was guiding the ranchers daughter back home. She couldn’t have been older than ten. “How much further?”, she questioned. “Shouldn’t be more than another mile or so.” I was taking her to a friend of mine, a safe haven. Someone to look after her. She had gotten lost after guardsmen attacked her family’s fields. Her father hadn’t been home and she barely escaped the fire. I found her later that night, crying on the side of the road. Her entire family was missing.
I must have been distracted, there was a shrill sound nearby.. almost like something sharp was dropped. A sword scratching the ground. I was probably just paranoid... it had been a long day. “It doesn't make sense... why would guardsmen burn your fields?”, I exclaimed. She didn't answer for a moment. “...I don’t know. They used to be friendly and helped us anytime they were around. But.. something changed awhile ago. Their armor looked bruised and battered, they started demanding payment for our protection.” “It’s almost as if-“, she was cut off suddenly.
Turning around, I saw a knife held to her throat.

The thing I love most about Patricks writing is how much attention he gives to small detailes and actions that are not necessarily important for the plot. Like many writers just seem to be wanting to get to the exciting part and everything happens for a reason to get the plot going. In the Kingkiller chronicles however everything, even the non plot-related actions and deep character and relationship building are cautiously taken care of, which account for deep and multifaceted characters and makes every part of the story, every single sentence a joy to read.
I love his way of writing and his way with words that makes you savour every single piece you read.
So I understand why book 3 is taking him so long, great work takes great time. Keep going!!!

I probably shouldn't be advertising another author on this channel, but if you want to read a series of books that has very similar writing to Pat, check out the Monstrumologist series by Rick Yancey. To this day, I still feel it has the greatest prose out of any book I ever read. For real, check them out. Whenever I get in a discussion about prose I always mention Pat, and the Monstrumologist series by Rick Yancey.
If you have audible I recommend the audiobooks, as the narrator does a great job.
EDIT: The second book in the series, the Curse of the Wendigo, probably has the best prose out of the 4 books. It's supposedly a YA series, but it is pretty dark and gory. Especially the last book. So don't let that stop you

I started listening to these books while I was playing World of Warcraft one day, it was 1 in the morning and TH-cam threw me a bootleg upload of name of the wind. I listened for probably 5 hours the first night and then the next day at my manufacturing job I subscribed to audible and bought the book. Its been months now but I've re-listened to both books 4 or 5 times and I love every bit of them, my headphones never come off when I'm at work. Thanks Mr. Rothfuss and the crazy TH-cam algorithm.

When I seen him crumple it up and throw it over his shoulder, I had an image in my head where the camera panned out and there lay the entire book crumpled in a pile. For some reason I don’t find that to be too far off. If only someone would uncrumple the pages and put them into the correct order we would have the book. I’m all for taking your time to make it the best book as possible but I think he’s being way too over critical and doesn’t like 1 single page, paragraph or maybe even a sentence anymore. We all believe in you Pat and know you will deliver a great book but there just has to be a point where you click send and put it into the world. We will love you no matter what. You can never make everyone happy no matter how hard you try. Sometimes you just have to hit send and get out of our head and know ot was right to do…… I hope that makes sense somewhat and wasn’t completely nonsensical.

Dear Patrick, I'm a fan from the beginning. Got your books in english and german as I'm from Austria and I hold them and your story dear. You've woven so many strands of characters into such a rich and colourful world I couldn't help but fall in love with it. What struck a cold fear into my heart when I finished the second book was my inability to see how you could bring the story to an end with only one book left to go. It wouldn't be the first time a triology became a quadrilogy and was the better of it (looking at you Christopher Paolini). It would be a shame if your beautiful story would end up forced into a quick end and those strands clipped off too soon just to be able to deliver the "whole" story in - only - a third book. Maybe it takes some of the pressure off of your back, when you have time to finish your story in four or maybe five books? Love and all the best, Roland

Here's the real reason why book three is taking forever to release!
And, this is clear just by reading book 1 and book 2. The reason why book 3 is taking forever to release is because there's just too much content that needs to be covered before the story can end. For the story to end, the protagonist in the past has to have A LOT OF EXPERIENCES (experiences that have been mentioned in the present), and then Rothfuss needs to wrap up the present.
Since Rothfuss needs to cover so much material in a single novel, he's obviously struggling. He should have just stretched the story into 4 books or more.

  • @godkingarus8180
    @godkingarus8180 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

Take your time, Mr. Rothfuss, because a genius of your magnitude deserves and needs time.
Let me tell you why I think so : I tend to be a pretentious reader that chooses to read literature exclusively from latin languages such as french or spanish. I have analyzed many languages and i have deduced that the true beauty of literature can be reflected with much more clarity and vivacity in latin languages, for they are inherently esthetic. Yet, few english authors, such as Ghibran proved me wrong. They knew how to craft a beautiful sentence with rich allegories and immersive metaphors of such exquisite beauty that I lose myself within.
You count amongst them. And in fact, unlike them, you also master the beauty of the content rather than only mastering the beauty of the form.
Not only is the story so well crafted, you also present it with such an exquisite take on english language mingled with a crude and realistic dialogue and with hints of philosophy and even poetry, that I ponder how such a mind works and thinks.
Take your time, and enjoy every second of the process of writing this book.
You are excellent, nothing less and everything more.

Robert Jordan churned out The Wheel of Time with no more than 2 years between books. Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive is on a 3 year cycle; books 2-5 and those are over 1100 pages. His overall works, he's been putting out content either every year or every other year since 05.
It's been over a decade for both Martin and Pat. At this point there's ZERO excuse. I don't know what Pat's been doing, but I've come to terms with the fact that Song of Ice & Fire will never be finished. Oh we'll definitely get Winds of Winter but why should Martin have any motivation when HBO is throwing him money for prequels, he's writing prequels, and From Software has him co-writing the entire Elden Ring franchise.

Telling an author who has not published anything in almost 11 years to take his time borders on unhealthy enabling and is not helpful at all. He will continue to take his time anyway. Getting a super short prologue also doesn’t prove that the book is coming out anytime soon, or at all. George RR. Martin published several chapter of Winds of Winter and we are still waiting.

I honestly don’t care how long it takes him to finish the book. It was so much fun to read, so intricate, and the variety of words that he chooses make almost every page fun, or gripping, or interesting. I am not a huge fan of the way he wrote Denna, but at one point, Denna says something to K like “I’m lucky if I even get to spend a few minutes with you.” And that’s how I feel. I am so lucky to get to own Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear. I have both books in Portuguese, and I just enjoyed the heck out of them. Even the choice of paper and the texture of the covers is just brilliant. You can’t rush something like that, and even if he never finishes the series, I will glad that I got to spend even a few minutes with his words. Thank you Mr. Rothfuss!
