I realised which character was telling Tress’ story before it was revealed in the text because I recognised the voice that Michael Kramer used for them. If that’s not a sign of brilliant voice acting I don’t know what is.
The only other time I've had that was the reveal of who the Weaver is in first law, because again the character has such a distinctive voice. But I really liked that about Tress

I listen to audiobooks while at work. I'm a carpenter who splits my time between Canada and Brazil, spending my winters down south, and my summers up north. Less than a week ago, I heard about Brandon Sanderson for the first time from a random youtube video about highest ranked science fiction/ fantasy writers. I thought, "Ah, I'll check out this guy who seems to be on several people's #1 slot... Braaaandon Saaanderson." Listen here, I just got through the first Mistborn book today, and I. Am. Hooked. I usually have a wireless speaker playing the audio tracks in my open air workshop here in Brazil, but today I was using a chainsaw for most of the day, and switched to headphones because I COULDN'T WAIT TO HEAR WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I am going to be purchasing them all. THEM. ALL. Haha, great stuff!
Also a carpenter who listens to audiobooks at work. Enjoy the ride, excellent time to get started. And they're good on a relisten because there are so many secrets planted in the books as you go. When you listen back after finishing an epoch you realize just how much you missed. 👍
Mistborn The Final Empire was my first from Brandon Sanderson as well. After the first Mistborn book I started the stormlight archive. Check out The Way of Kings. I love Mistborn but the Stormlight Archives is above and beyond. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Michael Kramer and Kate Reading are two big reasons that I became such an animated fan of Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere, and Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time. Their performances have genuinely changed me as a person
Man, they seem like such a team. What a great couple and what amazing talent. They will be the voices of these characters for me and probably my children. What legends.
I'm also a dyslexic. Audiobooks changed my life. I've listened to more of Michael and Kate than anyone else I've listened to. They have both made me weep. Michael's performance of the chapter 'Moments' in the book 'Rhythm of War' changed my life for the better.
Moments literally had me sobbing at the sink while doing my dishes. The writing and the narration combined helped me process so many feelings from my own life. I lost my little sister to suicide so the whole arc that is concluded there was so painful but cathartic too and I can't imagine it would have hit the same way without Michael's performance.
God, even their normal speaking voices sound so good! To me, these two are just as important to the Cosmere as Brandon is. I love their performances SO MUCH!

As a child I hated reading due to dyslexia, and was having a hard time in school. Oddly, Wendy’s at the time was giving out audio books of magic tree house. This introduced me to reading. Thank you Sanderson for creating these story’s, and thank you Reading, and Kramer for bringing these worlds to life in a way that makes them accessible to more people.
When I read the mistborn, I thought 'Hmm, he's good.' When I read the Way of Kings I thought 'wow, he's really good !' When I read Tress, I was blown away. He really is becoming something else.
Seeing the pillow for Kate’s feet for her to interact with and push on when she gets excited is just a picture that will not leave my mind forever. That’s now incorporated into my happy place.

The first book I've read from you is actually Tress of the Emerald Sea, prior to this, I've been watching your TH-cam Class lectures and just following along. It felt like perfect timing, I was in the midst of moving to somewhere new, was extremely stressed and depressed due to having been laid off work, unable to find a new job and wondering what I was going to do with my life. The first night in our new apartment, we had no internet and I had JUST received the audiobook and eBook so I clicked on it, still stressed and trying not to cry, feeling like I was this worthless thing that was bringing everyone down....and Michael's Kramer voice washed over the room. I found myself curling up on my couch, reading along while listening to his voice as he told Tress story. Suddenly, my problems didn't seem to huge and overwhelming, I felt like I could breath again. It gave me the strength to continue and when things start to feel overwhelming I sit down, press play and listen to Tress of the Emerald Sea, so thank you both to Brandon & team as well as Michael Kramer for such a wonderful job narrating. Really enjoyed this video, learning about the process done but also about them as two beautiful soul. Looking forward to getting the whole collection of their audiobooks and Brandon's work!

If you ever get them on again, I'd love for them to talk about how they keep track of their voices! I do a few for some bed time stories with my kids and have a hard time keeping them straight. I can't imagine how they do what they do.
Thanks for this! I’ve often wondered what audio book narrators think about the books they are paid to read, and it’s great to know that Michael and Kate enjoy recording Brandon’s books as much as we enjoy reading or listening to them. And they’re definitely right that one of the reasons his books resonate with so many people is because his characters have real human flaws and deal with real human mental health problems like addiction, depression, PTSD, etc.
As someone who's enjoyed the animation industry for his entire lifetime, I appreciate the tour of a narrator's studio. Voice acting is something that's always intrigued me, and after digesting the full Cosmere multiple times as well as other audiobooks in the past 6 years, I feel inspired to create my own narrations. I'd also like to thank Mike and Kate for their wonderful work.
These two have been part of my life for years. I finished school, went to University, fell into depression, got my PhD, married, had kids and built a carreer with them as my companions. I cannot describe what their contribution as the voices to some of my favorite characters means for me. I thank them so much, best Regards from Germany

I love this soooo much! After all the books I’ve heard these two read it feels like they’re family. I listened to the entire Wheel of Time series at least 7 times and I think I’ve spent more time with Michael and Kate than I have with my wife!
You both have been part of my "mental health tool kit" for a long time. 💜 I read most of the Wheel of Time books as they came out & would do rereads often. I got leukemia in 2015 and it was hard for me to focus on reading, but I thought delving into a familiar fantasy world would be comforting so I tried the audiobooks! I was hooked from day 1. They really helped me block out all the pain and worry. I'm in remission now and doing great! Even before cancer, I always had bad anxiety though, and your voices really do help soothe it! I appreciate you both so much!
I got into the WoT because I run out of other Michael/Kate narrated books. To this day, they are my #1 audio-book narrators. Thank you for pouring your harts into narration!

Wow so cool. I've spent at least 500 hours listening to both of them over the past few years. Mostly Sanderson books and one other book series I think. For Michael Kramer it took me a bit to appreciate his narrations. Kate Reading had a direct line to my heart from the beginning.
As a dyslexic reader with ADHD, I've always loved audiobooks, and the cassettes of the Wheel of Time were what got me started. Michael Kramer and Kate Reading are my favorite narrators along with Cameron Beierle (The Belgariad), Andrew Wincott (Memory, Sorrow and Thorn), Roy Dotrice (A Song of Ice and Fire), Steven Fry (Harry Potter UK release), George Guidall (The Dark Tower), Will Wheaton (Ready Player One). There's many others, but I can't think of specific names at the moment. As my dyslexia makes reading harder as I age, I appreciate their work more and more.

If you ever get them on again, I'd love for them to talk about how they keep track of their voices! I do a few for some bed time stories with my kids and have a hard time keeping them straight. I can't imagine how they do what they do.
Thanks for this! I’ve often wondered what audio book narrators think about the books they are paid to read, and it’s great to know that Michael and Kate enjoy recording Brandon’s books as much as we enjoy reading or listening to them. And they’re definitely right that one of the reasons his books resonate with so many people is because his characters have real human flaws and deal with real human mental health problems like addiction, depression, PTSD, etc.
As someone who's enjoyed the animation industry for his entire lifetime, I appreciate the tour of a narrator's studio. Voice acting is something that's always intrigued me, and after digesting the full Cosmere multiple times as well as other audiobooks in the past 6 years, I feel inspired to create my own narrations.
I'd also like to thank Mike and Kate for their wonderful work.
These two have been part of my life for years. I finished school, went to University, fell into depression, got my PhD, married, had kids and built a carreer with them as my companions. Such a huge fan of both of them! Their consistent depictions of different cultures in the books truly enhances the world building of epic fantasy novels. I’d love to hear more about how they collaborate together, and with authors to determine the voices of different nationalities.

As native spanish speaker i didn't know about Michael and Kate until quite recently, and because i tried TWOT audiobooks on audible by chance... I can't thank them enough for the experience, great story and great narrators, 10/10.
I love this soooo much! After all the books I’ve heard these two read it feels like they’re family. I listened to the entire Wheel of Time series at least 7 times and I think I’ve spent more time with Michael and Kate than I have with my wife!

You both have been part of my "mental health tool kit" for a long time. 💜 I read most of the Wheel of Time books as they came out & would do rereads often. I got leukemia in 2015 and it was hard for me to focus on reading, but I thought delving into a familiar fantasy world would be comforting so I tried the audiobooks! I was hooked from day 1. They really helped me block out all the pain and worry. I'm in remission now and doing great! Even before cancer, I always had bad anxiety though, and your voices really do help soothe it! I appreciate you both so much!

I listen to audiobooks incessantly (averaging more than 60 per year) and Michael and Kate are some of my favorite narrators. I always love finding new books they've narrated, it definitely gives me the feeling of comfort and safety that Kate mentioned to hear either of them. Wow so cool. I've spent at least 500 hours listening to both of them over the past few years. Mostly Sanderson books and one other book series I think. For Michael Kramer it took me a bit to appreciate his narrations. Kate Reading had a direct line to my heart from the beginning.
As a dyslexic reader with ADHD, I've always loved audiobooks, and the cassettes of the Wheel of Time were what got me started. Michael Kramer and Kate Reading are my favorite narrators along with Cameron Beierle (The Belgariad), Andrew Wincott (Memory, Sorrow and Thorn), Roy Dotrice (A Song of Ice and Fire), Steven Fry (Harry Potter UK release), George Guidall (The Dark Tower), Will Wheaton (Ready Player One).
There's many others, but I can't think of specific names at the moment.
As my dyslexia makes reading harder as I age, I appreciate their work more and more.

Hoid is one of my favorite characters ever. After having already read Tress by myself I listened to the audiobook and, I kid you not, hearing Hoid's voice telling this wonderful story made me tear up a bit in delight. Thank you Michael Kramer.
