I made a card too, and I turned the iron down to a medium heat, as they told you in the pattern. No bubbling. I also sewed my pieces on which gave the cards a nice home spun look. I loved it. Then the insert for the inside covered up the thread
I think this is the third year I’ve watched you open this box. I really enjoy what you have to say about the items & you are kind when you come across something not your style. See you tomorrow 🙋♀️🇨🇦
Nice tip about fusing to these cards. I've always been impressed that you immediately make the projects involved, that's so great! Loved the cute little tin, I think it'll be used for pins or clips. If I still had pierced ears the little light bulbs would be made into earrings.
I don't do any kind of monthly box subscriptions or Advent calendars and I don't care to watch unboxing videos. But I do enjoy watching you with Jenny's box each year. Something about your presentation is fun and entertaining. Have fun with it!
Kris, I love your honesty! I did love yesterday's item, although I have not tried it yet and today's iron tin with embellishments blew me away! So far I'm loving the box. I open my gifts with my husband, then watch Jenny's video and then I watch yours. (This has been my tradition for the last few years.) I think this is my 5th year getting the Countdown box.
I love that you open your box with your husband and then watch the videos. That’s so fun! I want to give my best assessment of it since it is a splurge. Thank you so much for watching and appreciating my honesty! ❤️ Can't wait to see Day 3!
I was tickled by the turquoise iron tin. So cute. I didn't do any cards yesterday, but I was thinking that I'd use the stencils and PM fusible to embellish the quilted Christmas trees door hanging I just happen to be working on right now. Now I can also use these little doo-dads to embellish the mini trees on my piece.
I'm loving the first two days. Getting a smaller crafty project is what I love about this box (like the trees last year. . .loved making those and never would have if not for the box). I love the subtle branding, too. The iron has the quilt block image along the sides but the MOQuilt logo is on the bottom (where I don't have to see it all the time). And the duck mascot as three little beads was perfect.
Your enthusiasm is always a plus of your podcasts.😊 As for the Christmas box it is too, too expensive for me and I would end up with more *stuff* I wouldn’t want. However I enjoy watching you enjoy it!! ❤❤❤
Don't they send any candy? I always enjoyed looking at the Swiss Colony holiday catalog. Never ordered from them. I don't know if they are still in business. Look at the chocolate tortes! Yum! Now I get excited looking at fabric! Cases filled with pastries at the bakery! You look like the Statue of Liberty if she was decorated up for the holidays! Have fun! Marion
Thanks for the tips about the cards. I have never made my own. Love love love the little iron tin. It is so adorable. And the embellishments and great!! I thought maybe fat quarters in day 3. Not big enough for mugs I thought. It will be fun to find out. I so enjoy opening the gifts each day and you joy and excitement is wonderful. And I don’t always like something. We are all individuals and you can’t please everyone. I don’t hate them, just don’t do flips over them. I think Jenny does a great job picking out the gifts. Thanks. Deborah Powell
Spot on review! I probably won’t make the cards but they are nice to use as is. I will use the stencils for other projects thanks for the ring together idea! I too love everything about the iron tin full of embellishments! Thank you for your daily reviews. I do not watch any other channels that open all the gifts at once to show and tell, why would anyone want to ruin someone else’s surprise? I don’t mind guesses though, I also hope it’s a mug to add to our collection! (I miss Jenny’s elf giving us tutorials)
Since I'm not going to make any cards, days 1 & 2 are a bust for me. So far, the boxes are the best part. 😼 I would put the boxes on a shelf in front of the backdrop that covered the box when you opened it. Tomorrow could be a snow globe too.
I wonder if there is a silicone layer that could have been utilized during fusing that could protect the cardstock?? Otherwise it seems like a bit of a flaw in designing the cards. The gifts are fun and adorable. How is it I have managed to get this far into my quilty life and never heard of Christmas sewing advent calendars...missed the boat!
Thank you for sharing. I didn’t purchase this year so this is fun to live vicariously. Today’s tin iron is cute, not something I would have purchased for myself though as I am attempting to be critical about what I bring into my small home.
I agree about the cards. I used to make cards years ago, but it's very "fussy", now that I'm older, I'm more of simple & easy. I will probably give to my daughter. LOL But, I'm keeping the iron tin, just love that!
I got the box the last 2 years & am so bummed I didn't get it this year 😥😥 And we're just on Day 2!! That being said, I've gotten mugs before & they're in a smaller box, so hmmmm. We'll see!! The boxes are adorable though & that iron tin-love it 💗💗
@@SewtheDistance Well,,,,, I did email MSQC early this morning & heard back while I was watching you-they did have a few boxes left!!! So, I'm getting one after all 😊😊
Thanks for trying out the cards and the gift card holder. Based on your experience, I might sub some scrapbooking paper for the fabric with a touch of glue (or could use a sticker machine like Xyron) to adhere. I would still sew around the shapes. The iron is the cutest thing!
Oh, that is a great idea! I am also thinking of subbing some heavy fusible interfacing for the cardboard. It is a great idea and they really work up fast. It is just tricky to get that fabric wrapped correctly. I love the iron, too! So cute!
Tomorrow’s gift: I can’t figure it out. You think it’s a mug (?) because something rolled around a bit when I first shook it “gently”. lol. It’s heavier than a mug don’t you think? It could be if there is a spoon in with it ?? I just am not good at guessing, but excited for tomorrow! I did make a card using the reindeer and two of the ornament stencils AND I used the wrapping paper (bag) the kit came in to cut them out on, along with the interfacing. I did have that same problem a little bit that you had using the iron. I used a higher temp also, the directions said to use a lower temp. Going to try again with lower temperature. I did use my appliqué mat on top of the card to adhere the interfaced cutouts. Not finished with the card yet, going to add some fabric and type up a greeting for inside, then try another one today. Yes, glitter sounds like a plan to help disguise the streak I got on mine.
Did you use a pressing cloth or piece of paper when you fused to the card? It might help with the buckling. Also, it doesn’t take much time to make the appliqué adhere.
Does anyone know if Missouri Star is doing their TH-cam videos this years? I love watching Sew the Distance, but often Missouri Star has other videos with instructions. Thanks, Kris, for your fun videos!
Aww! Thank you! I watch Jenny's video too! Here's a link to it: www.missouriquiltco.com/pages/jennys-christmas-box-unboxing . Scroll down to see each day. I hope this helps!
I love the cute “iron” tin; its contents not so much. I know Jenny always adds non-quilting gifts in her box, but as a quilter, I wish she had started with a more quilter useful gift. My box 3 doesn’t sound like yours when I gently rattle it. It sort of thuds, more like a mug.
I agree. LOVE the tin. Not sure about the embellishments. They may be regifted to a friend's grandkids. t’s a fun box though, right? I like all the surprises!
Good idea! That could help. I may try that. The glue still has to get hot enough to melt, so I am not sure if they would stick then. Maybe a mini iron?
Here's the blog for this series. I update it every afternoon: www.sewthedistance.com/blog/countdown-to-christmas-2024
Oh I love the tin. I would look good in anyone's sewing room. What a cute gift.
My sister and I have been opening our gifts together, she is in Massachusetts and I am in Texas! We are having a fun time!
I used to do a lot of rubber stamping and have lots of supplies. I really liked Day One and Two.
Thank you for showing your cards!

Love the little iron, It would adorn my shelves but Not so much the embellishments. I do think you are right on value.

The iron is so cute!
I would guess a mug too. The last few mugs have been so cute from the box!
Simple fix, dont iron with the fusible, just use double sided adhesive, and draw in stitches with a permanent marker. No iron.😊
❤️❤️❤️
So very cool. It’s two for two great gifts so far!!
I don't know what I anticipate most---what's in the box each day or what is on your head LOL...love the suspense :)
😄 I need to go on Amazon and get some hats now! LOL! Thank you so much for watching and having fun with me!

I think $20 is reasonable😊
LOL, love the headband. This is a item you could pack for a retreat. Don't shake #3 to hard as its breakable.
Thanks for your comments ❤️🎄😁

That tin with all the embellishments is really PACKED! So fine.
It is! There's a lot in there. I was just taking an inventory for the blog. Lots of stuff in the tin.
@@SewtheDistance fussy work is not my forte, but I know that many will enjoy the challenge.
That iron is the type I used when I was living in Africa in the early 70’s. 🥸. We filled it with charcoal to heat it up.

I love that tin and your headband! I love the gift card holder idea. I’m not a big card making fan myself but I do give away a lot of gift cards!
Thank you! 😎 Love the gift card holder, too!
Loving this box and it’s only day two! ❤️🎁❤️ thank you Kris

Thank you for the tip about ironing! The cards aren’t really my thing but the tin and embellishments are cute!❤
I like the tin, not crazy about embellishments, but if you are into that, it is great.

Wish him luck and safety in his new career ❤
Very cute trinkets today.
They are cute! Fun stuff.
Tip: you might want to check day 3 ahead of time, to make sure its not broken😢
I’m not sure I will be making the cards. I have a friend that loves card making, so this will be a good gift for her.

Double sided carpet tape works great with sticking fabric to cards, just do not sew with it!!!
