    LOL at #10, you're absolutely right these cars are not cheap to maintain. Doing your own oil change and repairing the basic parts is the best way to save money and keep your car running. Your video was very helpful Satch, thank you for sharing.

    Yes I've found a charger necessary. However my garage has no power and I only use my 997 once every few weeks. My solution was to buy two 850 AH AGM batteries, the biggest that will fit (same as an 04 bmw 7). Every 6 months I swap them over and recover the spare one with a proper AGM charger. This way I can leave my car up to a month at a time and not worry about restarting. Before the AGM it was hopeless even a big normal lead acid big battery was hopeless.

    Hi Satch, looking very smart by the way. Just like to add that the other half bought me a Halifords Advanced 200 piece socket set and I must say it's amazing. Has all your Torx ,Hex and Driver sockets, the only set I have ever needed to work on my CaymenS. It also come with Halifords Advanced lifetime guarantee with free replacements no questions asked. Well worth the money. Keep up the good work. Mick 👍🍻

    The first tool I ever bought when I got my 911 was the lug bolt alignment tool. It screws into the hub where the lug bolts would go. After removing the wheel for cleaning, etc... your screw the alignment tool into the highest available hole in the hub. The alignment tool is slightly tapered so you can easily slide the wheel back over the tool and align the remaining holes with the holes in the wheel. They usually come in sets of two which helps even more, but I usually get by using one. Once the wheel is slid into position begin screwing in the lug bolts until you have two or three in place. Then remove the alignment tool and do the remaining bolts and torque to the proper setting. The alignment tools run about $50 a set and are configured by Porsche model. These things save a lot of wrestling with your wheels as you try to align the holes.

    Wheel mounting tool!
    Invaluable and only about £10.
    Wheel Mounting Tool, Screw into one of the wheels bolt holes, and then hang your wheel in place, saves the wheel from slipping and sliding when you are trying to the bolts back on

    Oil pressure gauge was reading low. Needed . 19mm 90 deg.Claw foot wrench to get to the oil pressure Sending unit which of course is buried in back of the motor on my 996. Change it out all good. Ceramic coat your paint mate. It was worth every penny.

    Hi. Watched you for the first time today. Been in and aound Porsche cars for a while now. I would never, ever, use that three clawed device to remove an oil filter. Its too agressive. Use the very cheap Porsche attachment which gently grips the filter at the bottom hex shaped part. Many Porsche filters are plastic composite so a claw gripping it is not a good idea.
    Also, lots of your ten items are not tools and really seem to be fill in items. You left off Torque wrenches ( very importatnt for fasteners going in alloy castings ) , plastic levers for removing internal panels, jack stands or ramps, multi grips ( a very important second pair of hands ) and a good breaker bar.
    Nice blue Porsche you have BTW. Lovely car.

      I bought a ft lb tq wrench from a harbor freight store for 20 dollars and I use it on lug nuts. I'm an aircraft mechanic and we have a tool calibration shop where I took the harbor freight torque wrench in for the calibration test and it was 95% accurate , which was good enough for me. A couple of things you shouldn't do to a tq wrench is to using it to break the nuts or bolts with it, and unwind the tq tension setter to zero when not using it .

    I have a 997, I prefer the hex and torx bits that connect to my socket set 1/4 or 3/8 drive. I feel I can get more leverage with a ratchet over the tools shown in the video.

  • @olukunle
    @olukunle 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Torx Sockets, Allen Key (hex) sockets, Female Torx Sockets. Sockets are indispensable for proper wrenching, my 997 had torx head bolts all though the engine (alternator, water pump etc) the female torx sockets are a must for a 997, I don't know about older 911's and other models though

    Some handy info there, but a few others I would recommend are: Jack pads which lock in to the jacking point. A wheel locating guide tool to screw in to the hub before removing your wheels, especially if you have PCCB. A 1/2" & 3/8" drive torque tool.
    I can defo recommend the 101 projects book. packed with useful info!

    • @alsatch_

    • @andrewthompsonuk1

      The Porsche sports cars actually come apart easier than modern BMWs and Mercs. They are mostly very well designed with ease of repair built in (as long as you follow the instructions)

    • @andrewthompsonuk1
      @andrewthompsonuk1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And the other fantastic thing is the parts availability. The dealerships actually keep an inventory of common parts. I work on my own cars and I have BMWs a Porsche and A Hyundai. The Hyundai is the hardest and most costly to get genuine or high quality parts for. Porsche is better than BMW.

    Hi I got a serious question for u. What porsche would you buy for 30 grand and then what porsche would you buy for 40 grand also what do you think the mileage would be for the cars you go for obviously we would all like a low mileage but b realistic in your answers considering age of car and average mileage per year. Also the main thing almost forgot is it has to be a convertible!

    Good video - instead of opening the frunk to trickle charge the battery is it safe to connect the charger to the red “fuse” generally used to get the frunk open in the event of a dead battery? Seems easier to Keep a charger connected there. Just not sure If there’d be any repercussions using that fuse in that fashion

    Very very useful info indeed. But you forgot to mention the PET2 software, which you can donwload for free. Besides, a PRO scanner doesnt qualify as “cheap”. Cheap will be a generic OBD2 reader plus an app compatible with porsche. Title must be changed to: 10 tools every porsche owner that WANTS TO WORK IN HIS CAR should purchase. Then it will make all sense.

    No mention of the Porsche Center Cap Removal Tool? Admittedly, there are other ways of removing a center cap but having the right tool always makes it easier. And then there's also the wheel stud pilot pin/hanger, seeing as how German cars don't have studs on which to hang wheels when mounting them on a vehicle.

    Don't know the detail of maintenance records you have for the car. I recommend starting with the intermediate and regular maintenance sheets and set your baseline (fluids, drive belt, filters, spark plugs, coils). The drain plug damage should have been called out on a PPI. I'd start looking over the car more closely.

      Id recommend speaking to the people you bought it off as they will have quick links to the iCarsoft guys - but feel free to reply with your problem as it might be something i have seen before.

      Thanks I understand you. Ok the kit does work on the 981 convertible top, so providing the fault is electrical (and not mechanical) then the POR v2.0 will find the fault and allow you to reset or at least understand why the problem is occuring. Here is the kit www.diagnostic-world.com/pages/list_of_all_auto_diagnostic_tools_273181-z=960090&p=131264.cfm#content_item_131264

    letting a battery run low will not destroy it and that has nothing to do with an alternator. that's like saying a dam will break if there isn't water flowing through it.

    What do other people call the Ctek charger? You forgot a tire pressure gage.

    Did you forget to mention #11 in your ten much needed tools...... a torque wrench? Every nut and (wheel) bolt has a specified torque setting for reassembly of any and almost all fasteners removed in a "project".

  • @chrisstahl173
