- We’re a little behind on getting our summer garden started this year, but we are taking it one bite at a time. First, it’s time to harvest our first crop of potatoes from the greenhouse (and eat them), then we are replacing the potatoes with starts for summer harvests.

You can tell Buggy is getting older when she says, " Will they not grow if you tell them?" Lol She's learning quickly.
I said the same thing. She is growing up so fast.

I was planting my garden today and found myself yelling GROW! And thinking about Buggy! How cute to pick up a new habit from the cutest little farmer I know!!
My Mr 3yo grandson came to tell me the chooks wouldn't listen to him. He'd gone to look for eggs & left the gate open.
I yell "grow" at my plants everytime I go to the garden. LOL

There is a tremendous amount of work that we don't see on a homestead. And it's amazing how much your family has achieved. I am amazed every time I see a new one.What a wonderful life you have given the children.

My daughter is very health conscious, so she never buys chips or other processed snacks. When my grandchild was little, she had never tasted potato chips. When she was a little older than Buggy, she had lunch at someone’s house one day and came home SO EXCITED! “Mom! These potato chip things are DELIGHTFUL!” I don’t know if she even could have handled Hollar home-grown, homemade. 😂

Pork burger suggestion - for approximately one pound of ground pork, add two slices of chopped (raw) bacon, hatch green chilies, and cumin,. Grill and top with swiss, or pepper jack cheese.

I am going to play Buggie saying grow to my garden plants. I can get my tomatoes in the ground tomorrow. Then peppers. Ton is our last projected 40 degrees weather at night. I'm filling my garden beds with composted soil each day. I have two more 4x8 footers to go.

Yayyyyy…been waiting for a post from you guys! The new potatoes are so yummy when fresh dug. Boil a few minutes then fry in butter and get a golden crust on them…don’t get better than that! I had the same issue with my cat getting into my beds too. He crushed a bunch my onions and young corn stalks. I tried a few things before I had to settle on some solar powered motion detecting noise makers that look like Wall-E heads. They work great.

Oh Ben, planting Anaheim chiles reminds me of summers when I was a kid and we’d put roasted chiles on our burgers. Guess what I’m adding to the list to plant in my garden NEXT year!
I planted my cute sprouts and tossed all of the potting soil in the bed. There were many seeds that didn’t sprout until later. Now they are mixed in with squash. Nature has its own plan. I just roll with it and the volunteers from birds

I'm fairly certain they use a peeler to make the chips before frying.
Yes, a potato peeler is the way to go! Makes thin, crispy, fast cooking chips.

Ever since I started growing food to eat as I'm planting out the song that always comes to mind is "Grow for Me" from "Little Shop of Horrors", I was planting my squash and potatoes out a couple of weeks ago and thought I was humming the tune quietly whilst listening to the soundtrack, turns out i'd been singing along to it for about 10 minutes, before a neighbour tapped me on the shoulder and asked if i knew another song, at least i can carry a tune (High School was a Music and Visual Arts Specialist school)
This morning I finally was able to how my tomatoes and peppers before the rain started again. Not complaining just grateful . Weeds were growing better than the tomatoes and the peppers were hard to see.
I half expected to see the baby on the tractor with Dad already! Meg is back to full speed.
That was quite the haul of potatoes...love it when a plan comes together! Thank you.
I enjoy your videos and love how the kids are barefoot and always helping it's a great way to raise children. My grandson is always barefoot and outside to and I'm so happy we are raising him that way. Your gardens and green house is really nice we have a small homestead going and enjoying every minute of it thanks for sharing.

YES!!! I had a huge problem with pepper and tomato seed germination this year. I really do think it is a soil issue. I used miracle grow seed starting mix. I used a heat mat on the peppers too.

11:35 Little Chicky knows what’s up lol. Reminds me of when I was about her age and we went to a restaurant that had a fake pig attached to a microphone and speaker. I was looking at it and it started talking to me, I spoke to it but I was wondering how it worked and looked straight over at the people behind the counter, two guys I think, and they knew I busted them and we all laughed. I actually passed by where it was yesterday. They’re putting in a new overpass where the restaurant was.
