Enjoyed your video. I bought this offset smoker just a few days ago seasoned it, but because of weather and time constraints, I have yet to cook on it you make it look pretty good I like the way the woodburning when I was seasoning it I removed the tuning plate and the baffle with the first burn temperature stay for even
@@scottjackson6088 I learned on my brother's vertical which was a custom steel one in Texas. I currently am using a pellet smoker vertical by Pit Boss. When I can I shall be getting one such as in Texas in the future.
keep the OC G2 videos coming -- have been interested in the OC G2 for some time and your videos may help me feel better about getting an offset. thanks for the great content!
Nice video! I started my smoking journey with a Oklahoma Joe's Rider DLX it was a very good smoker for a while. I started getting error codes with this and did not want to wait for parts to get it fixed. I saw your video on the PIT BOSS Brunswick and that convinced me to go get that smoker. I have used that smoker a lot with great results. As a matter of fact I am putting on a brisket that has been in brine for 8 days for pastrami this evening on the Brunswick. I have been wanting to jump in the deep end of the smoker pool an get an offset smoker. The Workhourse 1957 is what I was considering but the price has really jumped and I was thinking about the OC G2. For the second time I think I will follow your suggestion.
man I love that the G2 has a collector and main cook chamber length stack, but I hate that they to sacrifice the top door and cowboy grate in the firebox
Chicken thighs on the offset are delicious. I run a light layer of AP seasoning. Then a heavy coat of voodoo. Cooked skin side down 225 for a hour then 325 to finish the skin off. And only bbq sauce on the meat side. Hey grill hey whiskey peach. Give it a try sometime pretty damn good. Nice job on the ribs too looked delicious
I always kick myself because my parents had a badass offset smoker years ago and as a teen I didn't know enough about it to actually use it properly. The one upside is it made great burgers
Would you recommend a pellet grill as a smoker or is an offset smoker better for smoke? I have a gas grill, so i don't care for a multipurpose device. Im thinking i want a smoker and figured since I'm new should I stick with pellet, but I enjoy a learning curve and if an offset is superior, I wouldnt mind learning
This is great. I’m going to enjoy all this content. Will help me decide if I’m gonna get a g2 or not. Curious if u were tempted to go “bigger” for your first smoker and get a Lone Star or a Workhorse? Why the g2?
Of course I’m always tempted to go bigger but right now the idea of throwing $3-5k on an offset (not even knowing how to use one) seemed kinda crazy. I’m more than happy I went with the G2. How the have the firebox setup will be an absolute must if I get something bigger down the line. In the meantime, I look forward to all the bbq I’m going to enjoy on the G2.
So I’ve seen pellet videos since this one where you’re sold on offsets, so I am debating going away from my offset to a pellet, what are your thoughts comparing offset and a pellet grill?
Hey Ronnie! I look at the pits more as different tools for different jobs. I still bbq the majority of my food on a pellet smoker (mainly for the convince) is it just as good as sitting by and offset smoker all day? No, but after a while you learn a few tricks to get decent bbq while getting a good nights sleep as well. I would keep the offset and compliment it with a pellet smoker.
Currently I run it without the tuning plate. But the pit would get WAY too hot on the right side without the flame baffle. But….that might make a good video…lol
Old country Gen 2 is a great backyard offset. I have about 10 cooks on it and it is easy to use and does not take much fuel to keep it running.
For real! I have about 4 cooks on it, and I LOVE it. Been digging your G2 content. Let's do a G2 collab! lol
The smoker seems like a winner my friend.
It totally is!
Grill private here. Been waiting for you to make this video!!
Good to see your versatility of BBQ skills. Meaning, pellet smoker and an offset smoker along with the barrel.
Awesome job Andrew! That pit is definitely an awesome machine. Ribs looked fantastic also, can’t wait for future cooks. Cheers 🍻

Your first time? Wow. I learned first on an offset and have since switched to a vertical smoker.
Which vertical do you use?
@@scottjackson6088 I learned on my brother's vertical which was a custom steel one in Texas. I currently am using a pellet smoker vertical by Pit Boss. When I can I shall be getting one such as in Texas in the future.

My latest video features the G2. It’s such a great offset smoker if you are looking for something easy to use.
Love that pit, looks delicious 🤤
Youre gonna be hooked. Nothing compares to an offset
Nice work homie!!!! I love my modified pecos, I almost built this very pit while modding mine 😂. Great cook and pit you got there
Great video, Andrew. Those ribs look awesome👍😊
Love an offset! Keep the videos coming.
Nice job next cook I would try a pork but or chuck roast. You did a good job managing your first offset fire.

good stuff brutha!! nothing like a good offset
Forget the smoker, THOSE RIBS ARE MASSIVE. HOLY SHIT. I’ve never seen ribs that big before. God damn

That sounds amazing, can’t wait to try it out!
very nice! awesome video
Good stuff, Grill SGT!

So, just how heavy is the door, is it heavy enough to need the counter balance that they decided to omit?
Try running the smoker without the rack in the fire box you may find it helps hold heat more
Dayum! Those amazing! Dare I say better than vertical?
what season did you use on the grill, and what do use to hydrate the ribs? thank you
To season the smoker I used rendered beef tallow and just water on the ribs :)

Nice pit...purty racks! 👀 🍖🍖
No you are a true Texan!
awesome..
Your first time bro offset is where it's at how did you like it ?
Oh man. I’m hooked!
Looks awesome, ribs and smoker...... but, is the lid as heavy as you made it seem? LOL Cheers brother
It is super heavy. Imagine lifting 30 something pounds every time you have to open the lid. Deal breaker for me.
I rigged a counterweight on mine with aircraft cable pulley an couple 2x4s and a 25lb weight - much easier to manage!
You should’ve wiped that oil on with a rag.
What is the name of that smoker? What is the cost?
It’s made by Old Country Smokers. It’s called the G2.
Its $1899 plus shipping.. Shipping is from $300 to $400.
I'd love a biscuit test without flame baffle or tuning plate!
Currently I run it without the tuning plate. But the pit would get WAY too hot on the right side without the flame baffle. But….that might make a good video…lol
Your spritz bottle looks like a Rowe Casa spritz bottle
Offset vs pitboss?
1,800 it better come with chef lol
😮😅
Waste of time seasoning inside of the firebox, especially that insulated one
