GMC Savana | 7 Day Van Build | Part 1

- Hi, We're Ben and Liv and on July 18th 2019, we packed all of our belongings into 4 bags to catch a one way flight to the other side of the world. Why, you ask? Let us take you back to a crazy conversation we had a few months back when we both decided we wanted to live out our dream of the nomadic lifestyle that is Vanlife. No rent, no utilities due every month...just the simplicity of life on the road and the possibilities of the unknown. This lead to applying for Visa's to Canada, saying goodbye to Australia and so the adventure begins.
Follow along our Vanlife journey as we go on the hunt for our perfect home on wheels and begin part one of our 7 day van build!
In this video you will see us install our MAXX air fan and complete our foam insulation as well as get a start on the finer details like window coverings and installing our ceiling.

Great choice on the van,those usually last over 300K miles with good care,I have a 97 express and still drives like a dream,currently making it comfy for full time living in it and travel Canada and US for the next forever.
how amazing! I recently bought a 05 Express with the 6.0 it now has 170K miles. it also runs great

Me and my partner just bought a 2003 savanna with 140k for 2700 no issues and it came with a inverter it’s also extended. Can’t wait to make it a home

I had the same white van for years... Had to sell her due to a divorce... But Bertha was the best vehicle I had... She moved like a sport car ( Not speeding of course), reliable. I used Amsoil synthetic oil from the day I bought her brand new... I had a motorcycle dealership and she was the shop van but she went home with me every day... I put on her over 270k and never missed a beat. Oil changes was religion... These vans are great. As I am looking at yours I get the itch to purchase another Bertha!!!!

Heard cork board is easy , lighter and a good heat retaining material. Also safety gear , and taping on frames when cutting.!!
GM vans are the best ..i have a 2004 Chevy express 2500 4.8 liter ..bought it from a cable company ( well taken care of) ..recently replaced the 4 tires on it coz the newer tires it had when i bought it i had run tjem bald when i was rehabbing my house ..my express van has been a life saver ..and i intend to convert it to a home an pass it to my 2yr old daughter when she grows old enudf to drive

Van life! ahaha loved the part towards the end where shes saying she hates insulation and then you showed the mess in the van. Thats me as well, Im on a slow build and i carry tool in the van "just in case"
make sure you "touch up" paint all bare metal after cutting the roof.

I just stumbled on a 2008 GMC Savana with a lot of miles but it’s only 3400 so I think I might have to just dive in even if it’s temporary. Wanna test drive it but I’m excited.
Looks amazing, I would have been nervous about poking through the bottom of the van when screwing in the floor. Was there any way that you guys had a way of preventing that?

How thick is ceiling ins. I put up 1/2” polyiso and thinking of adding another 1/2” before ceiling back up It’s a hitop gmc Savana

I hope that fiberglass insulation in the ribs does not hold moisture and end up full of mildew. That couldn’t up being a really bad scene especially in a humid climate. I’ve also heard it causes a respiratory health risks in vans as it put particulates in the air

Did you consider the 155" wheelbase extended version of the Savana? Just curious about the pros & cons.
Way more room in the extended I'd lose my mind if I was them.lol

Ben and Liv I do and I’m sure I’ll think of more as I go. Did you insulate the cavities where the wires for the back lights are? I worried it would be a fire hazard
Nicole Sparks where the wiring is, we used fibreglass insulation (pink batts) which is fire retardant.

What'd you guys use to secure the planks to the roof? Self tappers?
Yep. Self drilling/tapping screws.
How much was this van? I’m really wanting to get one of this style to convert . I’m having trouble finding something a little cheaper and reliable lol

Did not watch all due to the production quality of your video. Hint do NOT have crap tunes at 3 times the volume of your voice track. It just says either you don't know what the hell your are doing so just I'll turn up the radio, or you have nothing to say and I'll DJ a bit. Study a bit of cinematography (film making) if you have plans to make any money from some tube channel! After turning up and down the volume a dozen times I was done after the first 10 minutes. You have the pretty click bait girl ~ now learn how to tell a story. Good luck!
