People forget arm strength isn’t really how far you can throw the ball. Most qbs in the league can easily throw a ball 60+ yards. It’s more so about velocity and how well u can fit balls deep down the field into tight windows. (No homo)
Favre had velocity, and momentum, on his, "rocket balls," (a term Holmgren invented for Favre), which are low trajectory finger breaking Scud missles. Rogers can rip a fastball that somehow has arc, which rises like a normal pass, but much faster. The crazy thing, is that the balls screams out and up, very impressively, but then starts a sharp downward dive, like a peregrine falcon that sees its next meal a mile and a half away, and the ball will travel as fast as another strong-armed quarterback throws line drives, but Rogers will put a picture-perfect arc on a ball that travels just as fast. I've only seen two other quarterbacks that could do this in my entire life, but Rogers has better velocity. And just so we don't get confused at a strong-arm being everything, JaMarcus Russell was drafted by the Raiders number I don't know I think he was the number one pick in the draft and that guy could throw a ball through the uprights from the 50-yard line while sitting on the grass. He can throw it within a yard or two of the corner pylons from one knee while on the opposite 40-yard line. There are videos of that guy throwing football 80 yards without some ludicrous running start, just normal hop step throw, 80 yards. Too bad his work ethic didn't match his talent.
Nice write up! I watched all the greats starting the late 80's. That said, Josh Allen in todays game might be strongest arm I saw. The ease with which he zips it is very effortless it so seems! Elway, and Young are honorable mentions. But darts? None sharper or more dangerous than Marino. Rarely saw an arc from him though.
