Think of all those nodes as the most fundamental building blocks of an APEX rig. Because of that, to do simple things you need a lot of matrix logic, thus a lot of nodes. The idea then, is to create higher level nodes so you don't need these complex setups to do simple things. This is what sidefx is working on.
Learning about the relationship between vectors and matrices gives us a better understanding. Although it will still bring some confusion after learning.
