  • This is a short documentary talking about mental hospitals from the past, and comparing them with current ones of the present. The experiences discussed by people interviewed in the video really did happen to them. We hope you enjoy.
This was a film originally made for a student presentation at the end of an Abnormal Psychology class. The teacher asked for it to be 15min long, so we tried to make it to just about that. We produced and got the permission to use all the pictures and videos in this video by the people who took them.

I went to a mental hospital twice. The first time it was an open station. You could go wherever you want, you were even allowed to leave the town and go to another city and you could keep everything you brought there
The second time I went there I went to the closed psychiatric ward. You weren't allowed to wear a necklace, keep your "sharp" or "dangerous" belongings. So I wasn't allowed to keep my deodorant, perfume etc but the staff would keep it for me in a locker, only they could access

oh wow, first comment cool. it may be the past to you but to me its a lifetime that never dies. i was a patient there in Medfield, Norfolk county Massachusetts. back in 1977-1978, i am still a patient to this day in New York. i am 61 and with updated newer medicine we patients and staff are doing well but the general public needs to be schooled. also have been in Bridgewater, 18 years old 1974-1975 then and was really in bad shape. these are violent places don't let anyone fool yea, including Medfield. hope this helps, mike

Please listen to the child, and help them as they are helpless. If nobody believes them, they can be suicidal. The girl is so intelligent, nothing is wrong with her. Her father is a creep, I'm sure.

@1:45 wtf she’s self harming and her mother kicked her out of the house. And even though someone is self harming for attention then obviously something happened or is happening and they need attention so give them fuckin attention! Jesus Christ!

    Hey producers!!
The chick w glasses was SOO difficult to listen to! Her drunken use of the word “ like” made my brain and ears bleed.

Have mental hospital really got better. I got a lot of doughts. People are trully the same. Especially the men. Even tho I think woman got somewhat worst. At least they made changes. But as for the caring. Where somthing gets better. Others get worst. Back then it was lobotomy. Today its drugs lobotomy. Back then it was putting patience in lock wards & seclusion room & restraints. Today its putting theme prison & Jails. So which one is worst??.
