Just imagine you're driving down the highway on a brisk Saturday morning in the fall, to visit your old hometown, and this song comes on the radio. Life has its gems.
Watched this for the first time a couple of days ago. I thought it was a very good movie for it's time. The theme song turned into a ear worm. It did take me back to going off to college. (SLO, Ca.). I already knew a crazy girl. We never married. I always thought she wanted to be a free spirit. And like the young man in this movie, I was too straight laced to be married to. Still looking back, she was probably one of my best friends. (Yol).
Liza Minnelli was nominated for an academy award for best actress for this film. It was filmed in upstate New York and at Hamilton college. For some reason Judy Garland did not want Liza to do this film. I'm kind of wondering why but I think it's because if you read the book the book is totally unrecognizable from the movie. and that the character of pookie Adams in the book is not the sweet darling little weirdo that we see in this film. It's a fabulous movie fabulously photographed fabulously filmed I love the gorgeous landscape of upstate New York and the music is amazing everything about it is fabulous. She must have been about 23 when she filmed this film it must have been filmed in 1968 because she was filming Junie Moon I guess in 1969. so Liza was born in 1946 you do the math. She is one of the most fabulous celebrities personalities and is one of the very few people of famous parents who can actually claim she has as much talent as them if not more.
Lots of great movies from that last year of that tumultuous decade. Here's a short list of some of my favorites: Butch Cassidy & Sundance Kid Easy Rider Midnight Cowboy Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice Take the Money and Run
It was ironic that the jock did not have a girlfriend, but the studious, guy did. Dis Pokie ever study? It seemed she just goofed around. She did have some emotional issues. I was only 2 when the film came out, but saw the film on DVD maybe 10 years ago. I have always like the Sand pipers music. The film was good too.
From "Our Nostalgic Moments", nothing, no place, no one will ever replace the memories my soul holds of us, & the Lifetime that was Us, 2 bodies... 1 Soul; My Prayer is simply that you are before me, ready to walk with me into the Light, when My Time Is At Hand, I Will Know Our Lord's Time Is Here For Me, Because Besides Everything, Your Face will be in front of me & Your eyes will SMILE INTO MINE & I WILL FEEL THAT SAME JOY, I AM GOING HOME TO OUR LORD!
In the book, the "sterile cuckoo" is from a poem. But in the movie, Liza/Pookie is herself the "sterile cuckoo." In that she's wacky and spunky and doesn't get pregnant. I prefer the movie.
I am constantly looking for our lovely classic movies of the 60s and 70s. They are not to be found. Only the constant cookie cutting nonsense movies of today.

What a beautiful beautiful thought Jerome. That even brought a tear to my eye. Thank you for that.
Honestly I cant think of any other singers besides the Sandpipers who could sing this song any sadder than it already is.
Nice, nostalgic song. Thank you for the nice video.
Saw this movie AGES ago on TV, and I never forgot this song. And Liza was so darn cute!

Who didn't fall in love with Pookie...Great film and so '60s!
In 1971, when I was 5, my mommy had this album.
I am feeling nostalgic.
I had forgotten how cute Liza was as a young woman. The film is rather odd, but it's worth the watch.
I think I just like the nostalgia of it. Liza was cute and did some good acting here.
It's a pity that they don't make films like this anymore.
It's a pity that they don't make music like this anymore, either

❤ I love this song and have had it in my head for years ❤️
I don't remember this! But those actors are familiar and nostalgic!
