It's definitely not my favorite thing about The Guitaristas (there's so much more to love), but I do sincerely appreciate the fact that the "thumbnail" is never some cluttered image of a guy shrugging his shoulders, furrowing his brow, or pointing at stuff.
Colin, thank you so much for this channel. Many of us share the same GAS and curiosity about digging into the details of our instruments. Your conversational approach is fantastic, as is your low-key humour. It is always a pleasure watching your videos, and I have no doubt that you'd be a fun guy with whom to have a few pints at the pub. Cheers, mate!
SGs look so good in bright colors I don’t know why they don’t do it more often. That’s why I was a big fan of the epiphone muse series. Otherwise its always red, black, or white. That shell pink is amazing. I’ve seen a couple of yellow ones too and they look (almost) equally great. Great video as usual Colin!
Great looking guitar! I recently got an SG for the first time, and I can see why you like them so much. Once you get adjusted to it, it really is a dream to play
I was offline for a few weeks . I'm very pleased to see and hear you again. Really cool guitar playing and a nice bout of talk about guitars, GAS, Gibson and the Gibsons, our cherished SG...
Fridays are Colin's time! I sincerely look forward to hearing the bell ring and have a new episode every week. Congrats for such an absolutely fantastic brand new Gibson SG in marvelous pink finish. Cheers mate!
I received a 1999 SG Limited Edition for a graduation gift. I’ve played other guitars, but keep coming back to my SG. It just feels and plays so nice!!
I saw the Olive Drab Les Paul special last year on the Gibson website and I knew I needed it. That guitar gets played more than anything else, and it’s a killer color.
Another great video as usual. Informative and very humorous. I just spent over 51 minutes at my kitchen table watching it straight through. Like I have said before, I think I am glad that you only put out one video a week otherwise I would get nothing done. Also, lately I too have been having a bad case of GAS.
The output readings are very sensitive to temperature, if you hold the pickup for a minute or two you can watch the reading rise. You are 100% correct about the pickups Colin 42 American wire gauge polyurethane coated wire. Its very consistent so the readings should be exactly what Gibson claim.
I got a CME exclusive SG like that but it's walnut. I bought it as soon as they came out with these. I guess there not making them anymore in that color. When I read the info about it I realized it has a several things you'd find on a custom sg. Custom color, Abr1 bridge, hand wired, new pickup type, the nut and pick guard all custom shop stuff. It was 1,500 us at the time. A Great deal for a "custom" SG. Great video, love the CME and the review. Cheers

Its an addiction Colin... i didnt buy one of the epipiphone 61 lespaul SGs because i thought they were overpriced. Even after your review last year.. Then i see one last week reduced by 400 Canadian dollars. Had to have it.. and I love it. Next one on the way is one of the epiphone inspired by gibson Korina explorers... expensive for an epiphone but.. you only live once..cheers from Canada..keep doing what your doing.. love your reviews.
I have a Squire Contemporary Strat HH in pearl pink. It has glitters on the finish...after being hit by the sun while hanging on the wall it turns out into ROSE GOLD. it's the most unique color ever now.
Seems like a good price for an SG Standard. It sounds really good! I don't fancy the pink colour, but I suspect that it'll age nicely and it'll look much more attractive after it's 'road worn'. Cheers!

Every Friday is made even better by seeing you with your latest. I pointed out your channel to an acquaintance of mine who loves SGs. His response after he initially checked you out: "I'm scanning The Guitaristas SG vids now. I've got hours of stuff to watch. My wife hates you." Now he has another one to watch. I bought an Epi SG muse in smoked almond yesterday. Should be here this week. Only $380 US. Love to see you review one of these. Every review I have seen has been favorable to varying degrees. GAS causes money loss, but increases joy. Cheers!
Cheers Brad, and cheers for spreading the word! 😁👍 about time I got myself a muse I think… nice colours and affordable 🤔… do you see what you’ve just done? 🤣👍
That SG looks fantastic!! I now have 0 gibsons, just an Eastman sB59/v (going through a very strong PRS phase, this year I sarted with 0 PRS and now I have 2, an SE and a Core, love both). But that SG looks so cool I would grab it asap!! Nice one!!
Colin you crack me up the way you restrain your praise of the Gibson's. You know you love them! They're magical! You've got me seriously thinking of getting a black SG to go with my standard.
Hi Colin! G.A.S. all the way! I can't blame you for getting this guitar though. For the price, that's an excellent buy. This reminds me. A while back I told you about how I knocked my SG off of a gtr stand and cracked the headstock. Well, it's been fixed, and the luthier did a fantastic job. I was just playing it before I saw this video, so today we're both playing an SG. Happy SG playing! Cheers Colin! ✌
I appreciate your analysis of the psychology behind buying. I have a dozen guitars and would only freely part with two of them. I seem to buy one a year. Best wishes.
I picked up one of these Pink CME SG’s I picked mine up used. It was super mint condition! 😮 I decided to add a Bigsby B7. I used the adapter that mounts to the stop bar inserts. No holes in the body. Though I have been considering just screwing it to the top. No way I’ll ever sell it. I love it! And not a ton of these pink ones floating around for sell.
I had a 78 Standard Les Paul with T-tops No PAF sticker, Patent number stenciled into pickup base plate Your SG sounds great But pink? I don’t know, I prefer my cherry red SG Good video Colin Thanks
It’s Friday! Everyone loves a bit of pink, with respect I’m not to keen on it on a SG but each to their own. Great video as always Colin, sets me up for the weekend with a smile. 🤘
Bloody hell Colin this thing sounds amazing. Just great, those pick ups are really nice. Its a keeper for sure. Also where does your time go? Guitars and Motorbike's 😆all you need now is a watch addiction and you have the perfect triffecta of money / time consuming pass times. Be nice to see you do something about the bikes occasionally on TH-cam? Please.
Well thanks a lot for this video Colin looks like I’m gonna add another Sg to my collection thanks to you, man I love the sound of that sg , my Wife bought me the Toni Iommi monkey Sg , I’ve been playing it a lot next to my 1961 reissue you can never have enough Gibson Sgs in my Opinion.
Another week, another great edition of your show. I don't know a single guitar player who isn't afflicted with GAS and its many manifestations. Have you ever heard "It's a great guitar, but I'm gonna change out the pick-ups and the electronics"? Me, too. Amplifiers are a parallel phenomena. We're never satisfied with any of this stuff, but surely that's part of the fun.
@@TonefulPraise Oh mate, lm a caveman when it comes to that shit... The sounds digital gears making these days.. you can hear the pick attack.. it responds.. it's insane. One day
Been eyeballing those too, I think I like almost everything about it you showed me. Cept the brittle shell of the pink. I like it.. and you have some great sounds in those hands man.
Regarding the resistance measured on the pickups. Remember, they are wired in parallel with the pots. 1/Rpickup + 1/Rpot = 1/Rjack where Rjack is the resistance measured at the jack socket. Back-calculating based on a Rjack of 7KΩ we get the actual pickup resistance as 7.1KΩ so you're a fraction closer to what you expected.
It's funny timing for your video as I've been eyeing an SG for awhile as I've never had one, and you've definitely pushed me a bit closer to one. Now if I can just find an olive green one in stock!
My favorite channel on TH-cam. The only trouble is I have no self control when it comes to buying guitars. Thus this channel may prove dangerous. For example, yesterday I took delivery on the worn olive Casino which was reviewed earlier by Colin. I love this guitar. I note I am relieved by this review as I am not likely to buy a pink SG. All joking aside, Colin you are like an old friend who has come by to drink beer and discuss guitars. Thanks for everything.
Another great video Colin. Being a subscriber and fan of the show I have resisted temptation to purchase any of the wonderful guitars you have shown us. Until yesterday when I bought my first SG, now for the first time I understand how a guitar can lead you to play a certain style of music. Rock in this case. Great guitar easy to play and nice to look at.
Excellent video as always. Your playing is inspiring and until I watched your channel I never knew I needed an SG. Now I have 2, 1 Gibson and 1 Epiphone. Keep it up man!
Hi there, love your videos, Saturday morning, fresh coffee, watch new Guitarista vid - perfecto! I saw the “chip” and wanted to add, not to worry, as you always say, guitars should be played and enjoyed. They’ll get bumps and scars - all of mine have them! However, if you wanted to fix it, nitrocellulose although toxic, is very easy to work with and very forgiving. It’s quite simple to get either clear or shell pink and do a small drop fill - there are a few helpful tips from Stew Mac - long story short, add tiny amounts to build up to desired depth and in every application the new nitro melts into the old - it dries real fast bit. Needs a few weeks to gas off to a suitable hard finish. Then buff to match the surrounding sheen - nitro clear available in matt, satin, and gloss finishes - hope this helps and look forward to your next upload - all the best!
I bought an Olive Drab one from CME in late 2019/early 2020. Love it. My pickups read 7.2k... they are so clear sounding for HB. They really made me appreciate low output HB's. Also, out of my 4 SG's, it by far has the thinnest neck. It's a keep for life guitar.
You love what you love. The fact that you spend the time and energy to share your passion with us all makes it all the sweeter. I thoroughly enjoy living vicariously through your videos :) One day I will get to the point where I can afford to spoil myself a little and catch a case of the GAS myself :) This is what I expect from an "affordable" Gibson. Nothing to complain about. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.
I had never viewed your channel before. I only clicked on it because I have the same SG in ox blood. I thought I’d listen to a bit then get bored, like so often happens on TH-cam. I watched the lot thoroughly enjoyed it, I’ve subscribed, job done, thank you
Glad that you are thrilled with the purchase… But Gibson always has to have some QC problem. Obviously even adjusting those pick ups would’ve been a problem.
Great video sir!! I’ve always wanted a shell pink strat - I think it’s time! Also: I moved house recently and have built my own 800 Sq Ft music room in the back yard. No need to hide things under the bed anymore- only I have the key to the kingdom!
You do you Collin. If you nick the guitar so be it ! Your videos are great. And your helping us .Helpful hints. If we get a tight pickup,we now have a helpful hint of how to fix it ! Sounds amazing ! Great playing as always.Looking foward to next week 👍Thanks my friend !
Nothing wrong with a few scratches unless you buy the guitars just to look at them... I personally won't buy a second hand guitar that has no marks on it. I like to buy a guitar that looks like it's been the owner's number one for a decent while. Speaking oh this unit, it has such a beautiful vintagey tone, doesn't it? What a match with the Princeton! 💖 Love it!!
"A Pink Guitar!" I thought at first. Later "Well it's Shell Pink". Then later "Nice colour". This guitar sounds really nice. Your description of GAS is exactly what I go through and I now realise that not having a Gibson SG in my collection is a hole needing filled...
Three of the four guitars I currently own are SGs … the row of SGs behind you is giving me interior design ideas. I had my eye on the Olive green version of that guitar and now I wish I had bought it!
I purchased one of these in yellow for something a little different, it really surprised me. It plays superbly, it’s nice and light, sounds good, came set up very well indeed (from Andertons). What is there not to like? Actually maybe I’d prefer a black guard with the yellow, but otherwise I can’t fault it.
Super cool SG! I want one, but don't need one. The last new Gibson SG I bought in 2019 had severe file chatter on the neck binding and fingerboard. I actually sent it to Gibson Repair and Restoration for warranty work. It came back 2 weeks later perfect. I don't play it as much as I should, but I have really bonded with it.
Congrats on your new "it's pink" SG. Could you hear me joining in on my purple passion (it's pink too) Epi SG MUSE? The afflicted like us never grow up. We only grow old (and happy)
Congrats on the new addition to the herd. Nice looking SG. I'm not a fan of tort, so I'd switch that out for a black or white guard, but that'd be part of the fun with this SG. Maybe slap on some different knobs while I'm at it... damnit, I'm not buying a shell pink SG. I'm not.
Colin congratulations on this unusual Gibson SG! You don't have to explain yourself lol I can see why you bought it, the shell pink color, torty pickguard, smaller 1970s style inlays plus those T-top style pickups set it apart from your average SG Standard. Having 7 SGs myself (five Gibsons, 1 Epiphone Muse and a Harley Benton model it's my favorite Gibson model and overall electric guitar, my second choice being the Reverse body Firebirds) thanks for the great review and I really dig the sounds out of this one,, great score!
I have a thing for Gibson and Gibson offshoots, like Guild, early Epis, and Heritage, as well. Never bought one new, always buy used… well, except for my first Gibson product, an Epi Firebird V, in the early 00s, for $300, that had been sitting on the wall, unsold, so long that the pickguard had aged and left an unaged spot where the sticker had been. I now have 8 Gibsons, 8 Guilds, and 3 Epis.
I always look forward to Friday's video. You love SGs and that's certainly a rare bird, and any G.A.S. is understandably forgiven. I'd feel downright proud about that purchase!
always a pleasure to see you playing the guitar. Time to try The other Gibson's family -Kramer. btw, out of Gibson topic PRS SE DGT gold is a good one.
Great vid this week. Didn't realise I wanted a Shell Pink SG until I saw this! Think the Tort guard was a real nice move as it works beautifully. Thought that the pickups sounded great, not better or worse than a PAF clone, but it certainly sounded pretty awesome through the Princeton. Not sure why, but I always think Gibson's sound really good through a Fender amp, no matter the era. Sounds like it's pretty good value for money on a Gibson especially seeing how much the recent Epiphones cost.
@@sprintingforsigns It's the ltd edition with the 12" cannabis rex... I think it makes a difference 👍but it needs an attenuator to find that sweet spot.
I would call it Pepto Bismol pink, ha ha. The guitar sounds great. It's interesting that when you mentioned about taking more care around the guitar ,and you removed the neck pickup that was really tight, it chipped the paint. You can't win. Nice playing and another great episode. (They're all great)
SG's have never really twisted my GAS lemon tbh, but that one's quite a beauty, and sounds fantastic! Great ro see/hear someone enthuse about something they love, and comforting to now realise that GAS is a good, healthy thing!...quite right - there are lots of unhealthy things that one can get addicted to. Super playing, btw!
Congratulations!!! Beautiful guitar, I loved the color Pink!!! Great sounding, you're one lucky guy, in time, I'd rather see you buy a hundred guitars than a hundred guns...

Cheers John, yes real ones should definitely have patent stamp I think 👍
I have one of these from CME. Checks all the boxes, and I like it better than Gibson’s two main offerings (Standard and ‘61). So good.
Please.
Cheers man… never say never! 🤔
You sir, have a lovely wife!!! 🤟
Mate... we're all in serious strife!
Guitars, amps, pedals, pickups etc etc.. never ends!!
Only way to cure my pedal GAS was to literally sell all my pedals and get a HELIX 😂
Cheers man that’s appreciated! 😁🙏
I really enjoy your videos, you share a nice vibe that make me forgot for an our the things that makes people stress haha
Regards from Argentina c:
Thanks man, that's appreciated 😎🙏 have a great weekend!
Cheers Michael, nice one with the Casino! 😁👍👍
Nice one Paul! Happy new guitar day mate 😁👍👍
Excellent video as always. Your playing is inspiring and until I watched your channel I never knew I needed an SG. Now I have 2, 1 Gibson and 1 Epiphone. Keep it up man!
😆👍👍
Thoight after your Junior from those scoundrels at Peach Guitars you were done with Gibson Colin!
So did I! 🤣🤷♂️
Cheers man! 😎👍
So funny watching you enjoying the pink color. I love it! Very good choice!!
You love what you love. The fact that you spend the time and energy to share your passion with us all makes it all the sweeter. I thoroughly enjoy living vicariously through your videos :) One day I will get to the point where I can afford to spoil myself a little and catch a case of the GAS myself :)
This is what I expect from an "affordable" Gibson. Nothing to complain about. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.
SG's have always been my favorite guitar, the slim tape neck is a gift from god and the looks are stunning.
I had never viewed your channel before. I only clicked on it because I have the same SG in ox blood. I thought I’d listen to a bit then get bored, like so often happens on TH-cam. I watched the lot thoroughly enjoyed it, I’ve subscribed, job done, thank you
Nice one Nigel... thanks for the kind words mate glad you found us! 😁👍
Glad that you are thrilled with the purchase… But Gibson always has to have some QC problem. Obviously even adjusting those pick ups would’ve been a problem.
That is true!
That's a beautiful guitar. It will look even better once it gets some age and checking. I'd be tempted to try and check it prematurely!
Thanx Colin... at long last I now know WTF "T" tops are/mean... (Ta-Da)
Great video sir!! I’ve always wanted a shell pink strat - I think it’s time!
Also: I moved house recently and have built my own 800 Sq Ft music room in the back yard. No need to hide things under the bed anymore- only I have the key to the kingdom!
Nice one!... and loads of tube amps to line the back wall??
@@theguitaristas not a fractal or kemper in sight sir!! The most non tube I have is a PigNose !
@@Bona-Who 😆👍
You do you Collin. If you nick the guitar so be it ! Your videos are great. And your helping us .Helpful hints. If we get a tight pickup,we now have a helpful hint of how to fix it ! Sounds amazing ! Great playing as always.Looking foward to next week 👍Thanks my friend !
The pick guard sent you over the top on picking this beauty up didn’t it 👍🎸
Cheers Rob!
It is nice to know your favorite guitar maker. I prefer guitars with a Floyd Rose, so my favorite companies are ESP, Charvel, and Jackson.
Nicely done. Enjoy the new SG.
When I sell guitars, I always buy more guitars.
💖 Love it!!
Lovely video, your excitement is infectious!!!
"A Pink Guitar!" I thought at first. Later "Well it's Shell Pink". Then later "Nice colour". This guitar sounds really nice. Your description of GAS is exactly what I go through and I now realise that not having a Gibson SG in my collection is a hole needing filled...
Colin steered me toward the SG and I've never regretted it. Wonderful guitars.
I love your in-depth reviews. They satisfy my curiosity with Gibson guitars without me spending my money on them! Thanks Colin!
My pleasure! 😁👍
Thanks. Great video as usual
I'm not.
Maybe the nicest SG i have ever seen at any price but i am also a huge shell pink fan!
That guitar is sublime.
beautiful. SGs are so darn cool. need one again some day in my life. sold my standard a while ago. regretting it just a little bit. :x
i just love your channel and i'm not even in the market for anything right now but i just enjoy your contents
Cheers man that's appreciated! 😁🙏
Cheers man! 😁👍
Your love for guitars is contagious ;)
always a pleasure to see you playing the guitar. Time to try The other Gibson's family -Kramer. btw, out of Gibson topic PRS SE DGT gold is a good one.
Loving the pink!! Nice Guitar and great vid Colin!! :)
Cheers Jeff!
Cheers man, I love this Princeton seems to do everything justice! 🔥
@@theguitaristas It never seems to sound bad. I can’t remember what speaker is in that, a 10 or 12?
@@sprintingforsigns It's the ltd edition with the 12" cannabis rex... I think it makes a difference 👍but it needs an attenuator to find that sweet spot.
@@theguitaristas oh nice. I’ve heard from other players that getting a 12” speaker in a Princeton takes it to another place. Your demos verify that.
THAT is a beauty! Pretty in pink!! Great show, Colin!! Thanks for the GAS!!! 😄😄🥂
Cheers man! 😁👍
I bought my Epiphone 59 new from Andertons - they didn't send me a QC check for that one... I wonder if there is a financial cut off?
Could be!
I would call it Pepto Bismol pink, ha ha. The guitar sounds great. It's interesting that when you mentioned about taking more care around the guitar ,and you removed the neck pickup that was really tight, it chipped the paint. You can't win. Nice playing and another great episode. (They're all great)
Cheers Ken, I think it turns out I'm just clumsy! 😂🤷♂️
3 point 10 kilos?!! Oh Colin! Have to admit though “it’s not shit” is probably the nicest thing I’ve heard anyone say about a modern Gibson recently!
Cheers Jack! 😁🙏
a pink SG? this is the first time i have seen one. its actually sweet looking. SG's are just gorgeous guitars in general
Congratulations!!! Beautiful guitar, I loved the color Pink!!!
Great sounding, you're one lucky guy, in time, I'd rather see you buy a hundred guitars than a hundred guns...
I don't blame you for buying that SG. And it sounds as good as it looks.
