James, I think it would help you if you remember that food as medicine does not have the same perceived physical effects that pharmaceuticals have. When you take a paracetamol (a chemical) for a headache, and the headache goes away, you can attribute your relief directly to the tablet. When you eat food as medicine, you don't always "feel" the effects as you do with a pharmaceutical drug, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a therapeutic effect happening internally. For example, we know that omega fatty acids are beneficial for brain health, but we don't feel our brain getting healthier after we eat salmon. Often these effects happen over a longer course of time and with continued use. Nature works slowly. The warming properties of ginger help to improve digestion, amongst other things. Since the gut is the source of your immune system, keeping the gut healthy with things such as probiotics, ginger, etc in turn improves overall immunity. Green tea has a high concentration of antioxidants. Antioxidants fight free radicals in the body which are compounds that destroy healthy normal cells thus can lead to disease and illness. We are exposed to and create free radicals in our body every day, and antioxidants are our defence. So you might not *feel* anything happening when you drink green tea, but there is in fact an entire war happening under the surface as those antioxidants go to battle on your behalf. There's plenty of evidence available on this, hope this helps guys!
Also to add....someone like Fuhad who regularly uses something like ginger to aid in his health has a system that will more quickly respond to it. Food medicine is not a one size fits all like a paracetamol tablet, so for someone whose system is not calibrated to natural food therapies, it indeed can be a longer uphill battle to achieve therapeutic effect. Once your system is accustomed to receiving natural forms of therapies and is no longer desensitized, it will begin to respond quicker as well.
