i use same build on all my 3 paladins, have been raid tanking bfd since week 1, tried ret tanking multiple times but i fully recommend this build (use 2h for raid though) over ret tanking both in raid and dungeon. positives: holy prot with martyr and 2h has superior threat on bosses due to consistent threat output from som and +10% str compared to ret tanks/sor holy prots // your aoe threat is consistent and uncapped which is great for dungeon tanking // you dont need to pick leather gear for spellpower, fully embrace str/stam gear negatives: your snap threat is lower, u fully rely on avengers for snap cleave // your actual damage (not threat) is lower than ret tanks, meaning your raid dps will need to carry more
I moved away from consecrate build completely after I got my 2h. Now it's about the ret tree and divine storm. This is a good starter build though. It's what I started with.
I think later down the line Consecrate tanking will be solid, similar to TBC prot pally AOE tanking. Right now tho, consecrate does like no damage and even less threat (even with tanking runes you'll need shield and taunt to hold anything). Not to mention in 2 pulls you will need to drink to full and have a lot of downtime. The 30 second CD on shield also blows for chain pulling. I rolled pally to play prot and tank. However, divine storm ret simply pulls far more AoE threat once you have some decent gear. The only fights that really require taunt runes are the turtle boss and final boss. Everything else is easily tanked with divine storm and crusader strike. Overall ret has more threat, more DPS, and far less downtime than consecrate tanking. I hope someday sword and board becomes meta again, but right now this spec is very janky to use.
1 : show your gear you using atm 2 : can you show footage from your run as pala tank , maybe even show a boss pull for example and explain the footage more pleasing as your dwarf infront of elwyn forest. cool Guide subbed looking forward for more at lvl 40
Appreciate the feedback! I just hit 25 not long before recording so gear isn’t the best. I’ve done plenty of dungeon runs however. Thanks for your support and will keep this in mind for the future.
Nah this is bad advice. The best threat and DPS right now is 2h ret tanking. Once you get verigans fist you will have no issus with threat at all and do decent damage. Sword and board + concecration is good for 20-25, but its terrible in BFD. Use HoR, divine storm, avengers shield with a weapon swap macro. Its incredibly fun and does amazing in raid and dungeons.
just because u run consecration doesnt mean u cant use 2h in raid, 2h with martyr and divine str is on the same threat level as ret tanking while not relying on command rng ok to give you an impression, test values from hitting stockade mobs (ignoring crit, parry haste, weapon procs for now) with decent str gear and fathomblade: threat from martyr holy: (130/3.6)* 1.5 + (55/3.6 + 120/10 + 8 + 95/15)* 2.2 = 146 threat from ret: 1.5*(115/3.6+135/10)+2.2*(62/10+95/15+7*117/60)+ (2.2-0.5)*(0.5*55/10) = 130 this calculation includes divine storm dmg + heal threat, exorcism, command proc rate and taking some rough estimates now in reality crits happen, parry haste happens, you have all kinds of buffs, fathomblade can proc seal etc. Easiest way to test it is just going into raid and calculating threat for each build on eg akumai (easy to keep up rotation there): turns out numbers were about same for both builds for me with basically same rotation (just ds instead cons) BUT martyr was more consistent and speaking from experience, yes i absolutely can attest martyr build was easier to hold aggro as no waiting for command procs so instead parroting what you read in guides do your own research
@@Psilocybin77 first of all holy prot does MORE overall threat single target with martyr and 2h, if you would have paid attention to my comment you would have already known this. secondly holy prot is MORE mana efficient both in single target and aoe. the reason noobs like you jumped on the ret hype train is because you fail to understand how and when to use consecration, you fail to remember holy gets +10% str and you additionally failed math so you are unable to work out your threat per second. i went in and tested both, did you? i pulled out my calculator and calculated threat per second, did you? I highly doubt it. consecration is your dungeon aoe tool which scales linearly with the amount of mobs and becomes better for 6+ mobs compared to divine storm. pulling more in dungeon is generally seen as upside. and most importantly as holy im NOT forced to wear 2h in dungeon as divine storm with 1h is trash. and for your information ive tanked sfk countless times with holy and had 0 mana issues, literally could chain pull without ever having to drink.
Loved this content. I am new at both tanking and pala.
Thanks for explaining in a simple way.

Im not usually a fan of custom UI's but you did a good job on that one
Thanks :)

@@IlValentino100 consecration uses waaaay too much mana for the dmg and threat you're getting. This is a noob trap spec.
