Welcome! You've come halfway. I was raised a Roman Catholic, I was born just after the Novus Ordo mass was imposed on the Catholic world. I never knew so much had been stolen from the Catholic Church in the Second Vatican Council of the 1960s and so much perverted in what was left in the wreckage after that shipwreck. It wasn't until I discovered Orthodoxy that my faith became complete.
Internet is helping the spread of Ecumenism, especially through younger people. Most of them haven't read the Gospels and Apostle Paul. By nature they are easily susceptible so it's easy to present them an image of Jesus Christ as just a enlightened teacher, with a couple of off-context Bible quotes to back it up, and diminish God as a vague, all over the place concept. Especially in "life coaching" and positive thinking videos and seminars that are really popular throughout the world
Before I decided to actually learn about my faith a couple years ago, I was an ecuminest and had no idea. I was Orthodox by name only. I had never heard of the word ecuminesm. Through my blindness, I thought all Christians worship the same God, just in their own way. This is what happens when one abandons God. Lord have mercy. Through Gods grace, I’m now understanding my Orthodox faith and clearly see ecuminesm is a heresy. It’s very, very easy to be deceived if one does not understand the Orthodox faith. I still have a lot to learn, but thank God I’m no longer wandering aimlessly. Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.
Yes, all the very popular "Jesus" movies and series accomplish this, as well. I'm sorry to say I know of "orthodox" life coaches, too. What we need is repentance, confession, and communion.
This is very true. And fortunately, or rather by God's grace, the internet is also an important to further communicate about TRUE, Patristic Orthodoxy, and even locate where it is upheld.
The thing about temptations is they tend to be, once one has some kind of awareness, both comically crude but also of course often very effective. In the New Age for example, the diminishing or corrupting of the image of Christ is through the means of apparent praise of him. So Jesus is labelled an Ascended Master. So he is “praised”, a seemingly exalted person, but in reality he has been lowered to the level of quite a few other “Ascended Masters.” I’m pretty ignorant of these things but I take it this equates to a form of Arianism regarding Christ.

I have already seen how this goes. I concocted my own version of this 30 years ago, and it was quite effective. And then a friend told me, "Yeah, you included a bit of everything, so that everyone could accept it, so that it comes out sounding universal. It even sounds very Christian, except for one thing, you left out Jesus." And I was pleased to hear it. But a few years later, I began to ask, how does one get saved? Then I realized, Jesus said, "I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father, but by Me." And no one else has any access to God's mercy and grace to forgive sins. We need Jesus. So I abandoned my heresy, and attend a Catholic Church, although I also accept Protestant and Orthodox views. You NEED Jesus. You can't get to Heaven without Him. The best you can do with the ecumenical hybrid religion (it's not a faith) is to achieve peace in this world, and you don't want to see the persecutions that will come first to enforce it. It's going to get crazy out there, so stay with Jesus. God will be watching to protect and save your soul.
It is good that you came to see that “you need Jesus” to “reach heaven.” Clearly, this is the case and there is no doubt about it. HOWEVER, what does it mean to “have Jesus”? How do we commune with Him? How does He live in us and we in Him? . . .Before you begin to thank about it and try to formulate an answer, don’t. It has been answered by the Holy Ones, the Saints, the Church Fathers, many centuries ago and again and again since then. One must embrace not only the Person of Christ as an historical figure, as living and walking on the earth 2000 years ago, as giving us a book to read, etc. . . But as a BODY, as the Church: “I believe in the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church” the great and holy saints declared in the early 4th century. We BELIEVE IN the Church. This means that the Church is a Person, for we do not believe IN things or any created thing at all. Hence, the CHurch is a DIVINE-HUMAN ORGANISM. It has the LORD at the HEAD. It is Christ Himself. This is the Church. . . And IN and THROUGH the Church, Christ, His Body, one “has Christ” and goes to heaven. And this Church is One: The Orthodox Church. The Church of the saints, the continuation of the Incarnation.
the Orthodox is our last hope; Western versions are essentially an atheist factory including the Roman Church and all the daughters it created after the Reformation (denominational and non-denominational alike)
The sacrifice of God is a broken spirit. Take away, good Lord, the sin that corrupts us; give us the sorrow that heals and the joy that praises and restore by grace your own image within us, that we may take our place among your people; in Jesus Christ our Lord.
So much reality and sadness in the comment section. I agree with every one of them. These are trouble time for the whole world. In this storm, we must keep our eyes focused on the course like Peter walking on water... Not distracted by what is to our left or right. There is a beauty at the End of one season to another. A light shining in a dark place for those who seek light and to have rest. 🕊....💞
As a traditional Catholic I completely agree with your assessment of Vatican II ecclesiology and ecumenism. They have surrendered the very liturgy to Protestant ideas. In this at least we traditionalists admire the Orthodox. But let's guard against ecumenism :)
I typically have told others when asked that I am an 'Orthodox Christian' Dear Father Peter, what is the right way to identify? That I belong to the One true Church? Also which of the Orthodox branches are still officially part of the Body? I am considering joining a Church in the OCA to be baptized, God willing. After listening to so many of your sermons I am quite concerned about how to accomplish this.
The church is one. One must be sure that the priest understands the need for a proper catechism (=purification) and Baptism, Chrismation and Communion, all three, for initiation into the church. And, what matters most afterward is that you search well before you commit to a spiritual father.
@@summrblox117 To be a Catholic one has to be Orthodox. Catholic means the whole faith, the whole truth, as opposed to heresy, which is only a portion, and has lost the wholeness.

It's becoming more and more obvious the fruit of Vatican II is this falling away from the faith. Now, it seems too late for the institutional Church to return to pre-conciliar theology and practice of the faith. It also seems the Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Church has been at least somewhat insulated from the effects of Vatican II. Thankfully, you and even some in the Roman Church are shedding light on this trajectory that will lead to the opening of the Book of Revelation. May the Lord Jesus Christ preserve us all until He comes again!
You are setting up a false dichotomy - between the “institutional church” and a “true church” - in order to explain away the apostasy in which Catholicism has fallen. I understand very well the problem those faithful to Catholicism face - to see through the current disintegration and heresy and still discern the spotless Body of Christ. Sooner or later, however, one has to go deeper, see matters in the proper historical and theological perspective and context. The long road to our days goes back not decades but centuries. There is a clear connection between the departure and isolation of the Pope of Rome and the Franks and others that led it there in the 9-11th century and the subsequent stages of disintegration which the West passed through until today. Fr. Seraphim Rose examines all of this in his amazing lectures entitled “Orthodox Survival Course.” You can find a PDF and also YT videos on line. The Orthodox Church has no communion with the Vatican and the Pope, and has not had communion for 1000 years. Vatican II is the fruit not of a few decades of apostasy and a 20th century movement of “new theologians,” as some want to suppose, but rather nearly 1000 years of wandering in the desert rationalism and secularism, and of chiliasm.
Is this supposed to be a response to the previous comment and the entire Orthodox Survival Course presented by Fr. Seraphim? Are you a proponent of evolution, as well as an opponent of patristic orthodoxy?
I think many misunderstand what that’s all about. And there were saints who speak of it. So at the very least we should be be careful to be very specific in what we are referring to and be cautious in condemning it.
Does anyone know how I can contact Fr Peter Heers? I'm currently making a documentary and I'd like to ask his permission and blessing to use a part of this clip.
False teaching of course. False presentation of orthodox doctrine. On the church, on the heterodox,on marriage with non-orthodox, and on the role of the church in the world.
Isn’t this reading the Scripture out of context? This is specifically to the church in Philadelphia during the days in which St. John was alive. Matthew 24:12 says that this gospel will be preached in all the world and then the end will come which has to do with the destruction of the Temple that Jesus had come out of with his disciples. The world in this case was the known world and not literally the global world. I feel like this is how Dispensationist in certain Protestant circles interpret Revelation and other passages for eschatology. They seem to interpret this letter and other passages as though the church that received this letter was only holding onto it for 2,000 years so that the present day Christians would understand it and apply it to their day.
Probably it will be the whole world and not the known world in the time of the bible. We also didnt have the conversion of the jews yet. I agree that we have not reached the end days but i suspect its not too far. Maybe i have a skewed vision like some of us for living in the XXI century but i see perversion and sin are on an high level and widespread
@@banhammer3904 - I understand that Matthew 24 is in that context but I’m using the example of world their to be similar to John’s use in Revelation 3. The context is specifically to the church of Philadelphia in the first century, not The Church in the 21st century. I’m not seeing how this interpretation of “upon the whole world” in context to the church of Philadelphia in the first century is a prophetic announcement to the 21st Century global world.
@@etcwhatever - We do see an increase of sin today but it’s in part because of news media and the internet. We’re connected in a way the ancient world was not and yet if you look at the pagan values of the ancient world we’re no where near the evils and sins committed in those days. We sin similarly and yet also differently. Yet, again this is in context to the letter John is writing to the church of Philadelphia in the first century and not The Church in the 21st century. So I feel as though just looking at the increase of sin in our times is not grounds to see what John is writing to the church in Philadelphia as a prophetic utterance for the 21st century. It all feels like Protestant Christian Dispensationalism cloaked in Orthodoxy.

@@bernard4459 Christ is Truth and is the substance of any lower Truth humans have found and thus connected to those truths and the fullness of them, be they philosophical, scientific, or metaphysical. He is in hypostasis with the Orthodox Church and the sacraments and they are his body, but he is also Truth itself, He is the end of any path of knowledge and the Illuminator of that path. There are many genuine Truth seekers in every culture and they are not demonic, and what God has shown them to the degree they are humble and in search of him has its completion in him. It is exciting to show people the perfected form of their religion or culture. It seems ignorant and lazy to just call them all demonic or suggest that Christ is something unrelated to the truth of this world. Everyone has eyes and wakes up and lives to see the next day and thus they do at least partially see Truth, partially see Christ. The Church is seen and manifest most particularly in the Saints and hence the Church is not gone and will never disappear from the face of the earth until Christ’s Second Coming. Undoubtedly, it is harder to see as we move quickly toward the ascent of Antichrist. People can’t see mainly because they have never had or have lost the criteria to discern. They have little to no experience of the Holiness of God in His Saints, and, hence, they lose faith in Him.
"Behold I am coming quickly" well then, where is he? 2000 years (allegedly) later and still no Jesus? The fact of the matter is that Christ was speaking to those people in those times. Christ already returned and his 1000 year millenial reign is past. We live in the short age of deception when the devil has been released and has deceived the nations again. We live during Revelation 20:7-9
1 day for God is like 1000 years...thats how i see it. The quick of God is not our quick as he lives in the eternal present...everything at the same time past, present, future.
@@etcwhatever Yes but the scriptures were written for man and to men. Therefore, when Jesus said He was returning soon, it was to men and man's experience of time, not God's experience of time (which of course transcends time). Jesus said over one hundred times in the New Testament that He was coming back within that generation. He said there would even be some of those who pierced Him that see Him return in His glory. The letters of the apostles were written specifically to those people living at the time and many people were specifically named who the apostles were telling to hang on to the faith because Jesus was returning soon. Also, if you take the time to look at the physical evidence from all over the world, you will notice that mountains, hills and ruins have been melted like wax from a fervent heat exactly like what we would expect to happen during Armageddon. The truth is that we have been deceived about our true history and your explanations (not originated by you but given to us all by wolves in sheep's clothing) are part of the devil's deception.

OCA is divided and compromised. Be a Catholic instead, moving steady forward.

The church is one.
One must be sure that the priest understands the need for a proper catechism (=purification) and Baptism, Chrismation and Communion, all three, for initiation into the church.
And, what matters most afterward is that you search well before you commit to a spiritual father.

Orthodox faithful should make a point of praying for those in the Roman church who've been led astray.
him and Archbishop Averky are the two most accurate sources on End Times eschatology. they never mention anything false like the Marble king.
I think many misunderstand what that’s all about. And there were saints who speak of it. So at the very least we should be be careful to be very specific in what we are referring to and be cautious in condemning it.
@@pah9730 elder mitilianos indirectly did condemn it. I have proof

Does anyone know how I can contact Fr Peter Heers? I'm currently making a documentary and I'd like to ask his permission and blessing to use a part of this clip.
I think the temptation that that part of scripture is discussing is the temptation to take the mark of the beast.
No, not in this context - before we arrive there, there must be general apostasy and delusion as to the Person of Christ.
There are a lot of claims being made here without backing up those claims. A lot of general comments without very specific references.
It’s a short video. You’ll have to view the whole series and also read the books.
An honest question, what makes the council in Crete false?
The heresy of Chiliasm and "the millenial kingdom" will also be used
