The vault isn't there to stop people from getting your xrp through a login hack, because Uphold already has all the security it can do active for your account already. What the vault allows you to do is if Uphold went offline or folded you can take your back up key and the key that is saved to the cloud they gave you and use the combination of them to remove your funds from the vault.
