I love Henry Cavill as Sherlock. He's brilliant in that role! Different than Cumberbatch's version, but equally good. He's Sherlock Holmes I didn't know I need. And I love it! And I'd love separate movie for him.

i do like how they sprinkle in factual information into the fiction, for those who are curious enough to explore the real history of the suffragette movement. the jiu jitsu and the bombings. the curious will discover a fascinating figure Edith Garrud, and as they learn about the many interesting facts of her life i hope many take note of one that is easy to overlook the year of her death. 1971. her life story is one the many that help shatter in my mind the context of how long ago (or not so long ago) history tends to be.

they also, for this movie, drew on the story of the matchgirl strikes of the 1880s, in which Sarah Chapman played a pivotal role. This past summer the historical society in Britain installed a plaque to commemorate them at the site of the original factory in Bow, East London, and they had her great-granddaughter present it.

i love how they did sherlock. it’s fresh and unusual and henry cavill plays it so nicely. i’ve always felt distant from cumberbatch’s or downey’s sherlock, because the characters felt dry and unrelatable. but henry’s is charming and charismatic and sherlock’s key trait of being all knowing is still very present, but not the center of attention as it usually is which really lets the personality of the character shine.
and it surprises me how much i loved how they did moriarty. in any normal case i’d say moriaty’s arc and casting feels weird for the time setting but honestly they make it so fun and fully fledged, i can’t say no! i’m excited to see the two interact in the future, because now they’ve set up the cat and mouse game that fans of bbc’s and rdj’s sherlock holmes love so much.

It's a great movie the first film was very charming but this one feels more grown up and easier for adult fans like me to appreciate with tighter writing, and more mature narrative BUT it never loses the charm of the original.
Again great messaging in the film not only as it pertains to female empowerment but that it is important to lean on others when you need help. And speaking of female empowerment the Moriarty reveal was actually pretty genius. Making Moriarty a woman shows that empowerment isn't always virtuous and that there can be a dark side to even the most noble cause.
Very few faults to speak of really. One could argue that the middle jail break scene screamed plot armor and there's maybe a few scenes that felt a little clumsy, but overall just a very enjoyable well made, fun movie in a time when we need these type of films. I'm kinda over all the grimdark stuff honestly.
I hope we get to see Millie and Henry again as their on screen chemistry is electric, perhaps the most unlikely pairing of actors out there but they are so good together. Bring on Enola Holmes 3.

My son (10) suggested this movie for our weekly movie night after seeing it had Millie Bobby Brown in it. I heard the first one was good but never watched because it didn't seem like my kind of movie. Boy, was I wrong! We started with tge 1st one and loved it so much we watched the 2nd one the next night. I was worried it wouldn't be as good as the first, but I was wrong again! We both loved it even more than the first. The acting, the story, the fun of solving the mystery along with the cast, just everything. So thankful for my son requesting this movie soley based off his crush on Millie and wanting to hear British accents 😆

I never read Sherlock Holmes but I learned from The Librarians (the show) of the infamous nemesis Moriarty and I was just as psyched as you were to see the name!
I think it was at the start of The Sandman reactions that you mentioned Dragonheart and David Thewlis and the lightbulb suddenly clicked! I never made the connection with Dragonheart and Prisoner of Azkaban until I peeked at his movie list.

I loved it, maybe even more than the first. Except for one thing...
What the hell did they do to Moriarty?
I know what you're probably thinking. Another possibly sexist and/or racist ignoramus who has to complain whenever someone is gender or race swapped, right?
Well actually no. Okay I don't PREFER it, but that's actually not my biggest gripe. They race swapped Watson too and I actually came to like the actor for the few seconds he was on screen. Even if she was a white male, that's not Moriarty.
They had the right idea at FIRST. They set her up to where she views a network of crimes as a game for Sherlock to solve, leaving clues yet constantly misleading him so she can watch him dance.
But her motive, what the hell? Moriarty doesn't care about being REWARDED for being smart. Outwitting Sherlock IS his reward. They made her out to be an attention seeking whiner baby with a simultaneous superiority AND inferiority complex. Yes, Moriarty craves attention from Sherlock (the one in the BBC series absolutely did) but just wanting respect from everyone else for being able to pull off something like this is DUMB.
Before you say "well by making him a her it only makes sense to have sexism play into her character and motivations," there's an easy fix for that... just don't make him a woman. Simple as that. If they really wanted to make him black, fine. Go ahead, just keep his core character traits intact. If you want to make him a woman and still stay true to the character, I can let that slide too. And don't get me wrong, I really liked that they made the villain of the first film a woman. It throws off the idea that women are always the victims and men are always the perpetrators, especially in those times. Women can be malicious too and sometimes sexist themselves. However, in this case they made her kind of pathetic and a lot less intimidating than the true Moriarty. He's not supposed to be relatable or sympathetic. He's supposed to be this invisible hand pulling strings from the shadows that when you do see him, his influence is almost incomprehensible. With Sherlock being his only match.
Here, by trying to tailor her to be on both Sherlock AND Enola's level, they ended up ruining what Moriarty's character is. They shouldn't have even tried. Make up a new villain. Maybe name drop Moriarty ONCE if they felt like they needed to, but just as a tease. He belongs in Sherlock's stories, not here.
Sorry for the rant. In short, I did really enjoy this movie thoroughly. Everything about it worked for me, EXCEPT for that.
