Just want to say THANK YOU for this video. Our weed eater head broke yesterday and when we searched for a replacement we discovered there wasn't one. After a Google search we found your video. We went to Lowe's today and bought the Husqvarna T25 trimmer head you recommended for $20. Just got it put on trimmer and it works. Thankfully we don't have to spend $160+ for a new one.
Nothing more inoying than when you can't get a part for a perfectly fine item. I just couldn't see spending that much when it could be easily fixed. I'm glad the video helped you out! Thanks for watching.
After a day of fruitless and aggravating searching I determined that Kobalt didn't support this spare part and came across your video. Thank you sir and well done. Wish the employees at Lowe's would have known this tip as that would have saved me a return trip to get these parts!!!
Sometime improvising is the key. I'm so glad this helped. Mine has been going strong since I fixed it. Better than spending $100-$350 for a new unit for sure.
EXCELLENT VIDEO! MY KOBALT LOOKS LIKE YOURS DID, BEFORE THE REPLACEMENT. I CALLED LOWE’S PRIOR TO YOUR VIDEO AND THE SALESPERSON TOLD ME THERE WERE NO REPLACEMENT PART. GLAD YOU CREATED THIS VIDEO! KNEW I SHOULDN’T HAVE TO BUY A WHOLE NEW TRIMMER. THANK YOU!
Yeah that's pretty ridiculous! That is why I said everything can be fixed and rigged it with something else. Thus the reason I won't buy storebrand ever again. Namebrand or nothing. Thanks for watching, glad it helped you out.
The replacement part in the manual shows up as being made Greenworks when I did a Google search. They don't sell it anymore either, but I was able to find one at M&D (Mower and Appliance) that worked perfectly.
OMG! Thank you! My weed eater was as bad as yours and I was resigned to getting a new one when I stumbled onto this video. The hardest part was loosening that damn screw. I was ready to give up (WD-40… nothing was working) and I finally asked my husband for help. He almost gave up too and then; success!! The rest went slick as snot and I basically have a new weed eater. Now I can buy more fabric with the money I saved 😊
If all you need is the actual bump head then the Husqvarna will fit into the Kobalt assembly. I ordered the T25 after watching this video but was hesitant to replace the whole assembly. I just dropped the bumper in the Kobalt housing and it fit like a glove. Gave it a few bumps to be sure it was going to work and it works great.
Very clever!!! Unfortunately you could see how bad my head was. I am glad that worked great for you. Also fyi you can purchase just the bump heads online in like packs of 3. Maybe that will help you for the future as well. Thanks for sharing your experience and commenting!
Thank you so much for responding so quickly. I have an update for you. I just came from Lowe’s to exchange my trimmer blower combination. It took over an hour because the item number on the book manual that came with the trimmer does not match their system just another way of making you get tired and give up. But after an hour, the manager came by gave authorization and finally exchanged my items. moral of the story is keep your receipt.
Sir, very much appreciated. I was frustrated and searched YT discovering your video which made it simple. Thank you my over grown lawn thanks you as well.
Man I owe you a beer! My trimmer was only two summers old and I don’t know if something changed between when you got your trimmer and mine but I didn’t have the C ring on mine. Other that that everything worked perfectly! Again, owe you a beer!
Cool man I'm glad this video did justice for you. I was on a mission to fix my perfectly fine trimmer. I'm glad I shared this for everyone to fix theirs too. I think all the newer models don't have the snap ring. Life is better without, trust me! 🤣 Thanks for watching Shawn!
Thank you! This 66 year old lady was able to fix her Kobolt with your instructions! and an awl…i had a slightly different model and the nut was moulded into the head
Did you try to go backward with the threads in reverse? Maybe that was the issue... If not, try using PB Blaster. Spray the nut and let it soak. Repeat as necessary.
@databaseminer19 Well shoot, ok I will do some thinking and if I come up with an idea to help I will message you... Just keep periodically spraying with pb, and let me know if you get it.
Just like these others, My trimmer broke just as yours did and I found your video. 5 star review on your video as it was point on! Only difference was that mine didn't have the C clamp, but all other steps were spot on! again, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Very good!!!! I'm ecstatic that this has helped you out! When I made the video I couldn't find a resolution. I don't like wasting money or good products so I came up with this repair and fixed it as cheap as possible and now years later it still works. I use mine all the time! Thank you very much for commenting and letting me know it helped you out! I appreciate you watching!!! YOUR WELCOME 😁
This definitely worked!! Thanks for the help!! I saw the video a week before I used your method and bought another product. The product was not performing they way I thought it should and I came back to your video and I happier than ever. My yard thanks you!
Awsome! Tell your yard your welcome and until next cuttin to enjoy! Haha, but I'm glad it worked for you I've been using mine since I switched it out. Thanks for watching!
Hey thanks a lot for posting this! I had been completely flummoxed on how to fix this since Kobalt doesnt offer a replacement part. I followed your instructions and it is up and running again.
Your video helped. I have a Toro #51831 trimmer that comes apart the exact same way. I choose to go with the Hipa 400 speed feed head from Amazon about $25 w/freight. Had to rethread with the tap-n-die set but all feel into place. The Hipa head is a Echo Speedfeed 400 clone head. Again your video gave me the idea to use the speed feed head, that way you don't have to take the head apart to re-string.
Awesome, I'm glad the video gave you a solid structure of how to fix your unit. Good job applying a new twist and technique to the plot to correct yours. Thanks for commenting to let me know it helped you out. I'm sure someone reading this will be helped through your comment!
Worked perfectly as you have shown. Turns out I bought the replacement part before I saw the video and let a cry of joy when I saw you were using the same part. Thanks for sharing and instructing. (And, yes, that little clip was a pain in the butt.)
Awsome I'm glad this helped you! That's funny you bought the same part before watching 🤣. Usually the clips aren't that bad but oh well all that matters is that we got it! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you so much! I'm standing in Lowe's thumbing through different washers, and was able to track down the exact one because of your helpful links. I appreciate you, my friend!
You are very welcome! I'm glad the time and energy to do this had paid off. You are one of the first to actually use the links in the description. I did that, so there wasn't any guessing involved like I had to do to make it work for me originally. I wanted to bypass the trouble and make it as easy as possible for people to fix their equipment. Thanks for watching and letting me know it helped you out!
Thank you so much for making this video. I was able to find a compatible replacement part online and your instructions had me up and running in no time!
@robertcrosby1614 Sweat, once again, another person just trying to service a completely fine working unit. I am amazed that manufacturers are getting away with such things nowadays.... Thank you for letting me know and watching. I am glad I could help you with a fast, inexpensive solution!
Thanks you!!! My Kobalt trimmer is like new again. These instructions worked perfectly. My trimmer didn’t have the retaining ring, so I’m sending back the unused tool. I was concerned about the washers fitting, but standard metric M10 flats were the perfect thickness, and diameter. Thanks again!
I can not seem to find washers that are able to: 1. Fit inside the T25 head AND 2. Fit over the bolt. Does anyone have any tips or links on what I could about this problem?
I am glad this helped you out. I made this video exactly for that reason! Plus I didn't want anyone else including me to throw away a perfectly fine trimmer because of a manufacturer lacking to provide parts.
Thanks for this. Just as easy as you showed, and I struggled a little with the clip. But it took me about 20 minutes and I was trimming grass. Great job!
This is wonderful, thank you for posting this and showing us how to fix the Kobalt 40V weed eater head. Kobalt does not have a replacement head as far as I have looked and searched. Also, Lowes has no solutions from the folks I have talked to there. The Lord bless you and keep you, Turn His face and shine upon you, Grant you grace, mercy and peace, In Jesus mighty name, Amen.
Thank you for the information, the problem I had was with a Kobalt KST2540-06 slightly different than your model. This had different requirements and I have seen several people comment about the model. A. I used a replacement Makita Trimmer head Part No. 191R00-0. Used your instructions for disassembly, removed C-Clip retainer which I broke. Then held the screw with the screw driver and turned the spindle CC wise to remove. Once removed I saved the original nut by tapping it out of spindle from bottom (10MM x 125). Then did the same on the new Makita Trimmer head, this new nut will not be used. Then lined up the nut from the original KST spindle inserted into the Makita spindle. Perfect fit no washers needed, just tighten and put on a new C-clip (I used a Hillman 3/8 clip) Metric was not available. Very easy, after trying many other trimmer heads that didn't work out. I did start with calling Kobalt 888-356-2258 and was told the trimmer head was out of stock for my model.
Great job Terry! Looks like you used your head on this one. I have told several people that they could implement the same concept into what I did. Me not knowing all makes and models just know there is a way with a will. Thanks for commenting for others on a resolution. I appreciate you watching and I'm glad this information has helped you!
I have the same model kobalt kst 2540 06 so I s'pose I'll try to get that Makita head as well. I have to say the actual rest of the trimmer is really excellent. Lightweight, quick charging, long lasting. Couldn't complain. But that original head lost it's spring and feed real quick, like maybe after a single season.
Alright, that sounds like a good idea. Keep me updated on how the repair goes. I'm always interested in learning how other people do things. It should be great once you get it fixed. The trimmer has worked really well for me, except for the whole head issue. Thanks again for watching!
My kobalt trimmer head broke and I couldn't find a kobalt replacement. (They don't make them). This video is excellent and I was able to replace mine after watching the video. Well done!
@michaelphillips9530 Sweat! I'm glad the video was helpful for you! One more happy person just trying to keep their equipment up and running. I'm ecstatic that I can help so many people save money and repair their equipment. Thank you for watching!
Great video. I’ve been looking for this exact solution to replace mine with something better. Very well detailed, step by step instructions. I happen to have the need to go to Lowe’s today for a toilet repair. I’m grabbing the parts and tools for this job while I’m there. Love my Kobalt trimmer but I’ve never been happy with the head. Line doesn’t want to feed thru all the time and when it does, it doesn’t seem to hold that much. Maybe a few feet at best before I can’t twist it anymore. Also the li e doesn’t always want to advance when I bump it. Stay tuned.
Awesome lets see how it works for you! It will be like one of those cars you see that is welded together and is two brands in one. Just not as cool! Haha 🤣 Thanks for watching.... Let me know later if it works well for you! I appreciate you!
Helpful video! My wife bought a brand new Kobalt weed eater from Lowes. Somehow, straight out of the box, the weed eater wasn’t feeding out line at all; no matter how many times you hit it on the ground. Never could figure out why. Finally just discovered the Kobalt weed eater left China without a bump head spring. No wonder why it wasn’t working. Must be a shortage of springs in China, just not include one. Thanks to your video I finally have a good solution to get the new weed eater working. I’ll head over to Lowes, see what they have. 🙂👍
Wow thats not cool! I guess anything flies anymore nowadays. It's crazy... I am glad you found the video helpful. Realistically this fix can almost apply to any weed eater with minor modifications. You know how they are all built practically the same. Good luck on you fix. Also you may be able to just buy the bump head and spring online, maybe check into that it might help save a few bucks and time.
@@HowToDIYMoore , I was on the Kobalt website, and I did find a replacement bump head for sale. The downside is, I have no idea if the replacement spring is included or not. It’s a gamble with the cost of shipping and waiting around. Might be better to run to Lowes with the Harley and see if I can get it working sooner. The tall spring is all I’m missing. My wifey also bought a B&D weed eater several years ago, that includes a motorized line feed system. I think this is far better than the body slam feed bump thing with the Kobalt. The B&D weed eater just needs a few small parts I already ordered, to have it work again.
@@ChrisCromwellHP That's one way to get a nice ride in on the Harley. Why don't you put the ball in kobalts court and have them make it right since you just bought it. Look down below in the video description there are 2 phone numbers to contact them. I would see if it could be taken care of for free first. Would be worth waiting if free.
@@HowToDIYMoore they probably wouldn’t care, after half listening. They have no control over what China does. The best they could offer is for me to return the entire weed eater for another new one under warranty; all under a $1 spring. Too much of a pain. I’ll see if your solution will be easier with less hassle. Might as well grab more trimmer line for the Kobalt while I’m there.
Hey, thanks for the heads up! This saved us a lot of money and now you don't have to buy a new one. I'm glad you're back in business and ready to trim the lawn. Thanks for watching and commenting!
For anyone with a KST 1040 model, I was able to get the Rhino-Tuff “Pivot Trim” head right onto the shaft. It uses the “fixed line” system, but it works!
That's great! It seems like we've solved a few issues. I'm glad the video helped you get things working better and saved you some money. Thanks for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it! 💪
Very helpful video. I lost the adapter that fits over the shaft that the head rests on. I have tried stacking some 10mm washers but and concerned that this is not a good solution. Ayn suggestions?
Without seeing it its hard to picture, but what if you take it to lowes or hardware store and find a bolt or nut to replace your missing piece. Or I would recommend you just call Kobalt and or pull up oe diagram online to order your missing part. If you can't make it locally I would try to order directly. Hopefully this helps! 😁
THANK YOU for this video! This worked out perfectly! We have the exact same model trimmer (KST 130X-06) but ours did not have the snap ring retainer clip.
AWESOME! I'm glad it worked out for you. Without the snap ring that means you could cut 10 min out of the video... 🤣 It wasn't cooperating with me when I was trying to film the video. haha. Thank you for watching, glad it helped you out!
Awsome! Good job, it's a very easy repair that saves you maybe $200. Thanks for your support, watching, and taking time to let me know. Enjoy your trimmer!
Just wanted to say thanks for the info and video. My old head was not in much better shape than yours. After unsuccessful search for replacement head found your video. Install went easy, since I already had all the needed tools and washers. My old head did not have the snap ring (retaining clip), but I had a tray full of those and installed one anyway. Everything seems to work fine, but a bit more vibration so will see it that becomes a problem. That could be from the much heavier trim line (0.8 vs 0.65). Still a lot cheaper than the $130 to replace the whole trimmer with a new unit.
Awsome glad it helped you! Convenient you had everything but the head. Manufacturers don't like people like me that impliment new ways to fix stuff that works perfectly fine. 🤣 Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video! This helped a ton! I found it interesting tho that my lonely trimmer did not have a C Clamp on that tightening bolt. Let’s hope it stays together.
I'm glad this video has helped you out! I think it's weird that they changed the design 100 times over a few years?!.. Idk 🤷♂️ Thank you for watching!
Awesome vid thanks, I just took mine apart but I don’t have the c- clip on mine , would you happen to know , or anyone else reading this , if it will still work with the new head? Do I still need washers? Thanks
Thank you!!! I don't personally know, but some people have reported the same thing. They have said they don't have the c clamp, but it has worked on theirs.
I would recommend calling kobalt direct and have your make and model number. That part is a spacer and a bearing in one. I would recommend purchasing the original part. Hopefully this helps.
@@unclefreddieDied Awesome! I'm glad to hear that the trimmer is back up and running. I'm just following up with everyone to see how it been going. I am unwilling to deal with this "Throw Away" society that big business is getting away with. I will fix EVERYTHING if there is a will there is a way. So I am curious - Did this video help you through the repair at all being you had a different model Kobalt? I was scrolling through the comments and was wondering ; especially for the next person with your model. Thanks again for watching and commenting back. I appreciate you! 🤝
10:03 How did you get this screw in. I’m stuck on this part!!! Spent an afternoon trying to get it in. I’m incredibly frustrated to say the least!!! Appreciate any help.
Yeah it was a pain in the butt for me too. Step away for a few minutes, then I think it was reversed threads. I went opposite way to get the threads lined up then once I felt it line into place I switched directions and started threading. I hope this helps you.
Great video! What size nut would fit on that stud? Mine has the larger nut not the smaller square one so I’m going to try to get a smaller nut to go on.
Hey, thanks, bro! I don't know the exact size of the nut, but if it were me, I'd take yours to the hardware store and use the testers to find out. Then you can buy the one you need as well. Take the Wacker while you're at it as well to make sure you have what you need! Don't be ashamed. Just do it!!! Thanks for watching 👀
Hope this works on a Kobalt 40v Max KST 1340-06 S#-KBY2527575. 09/09/19. Piece was sent to me and I'm dumbfounded as to how it was going to work until I watched your video. Will give it a try and let you know! Thanks!
I ordered it last week and it is a newer style than my 40v (purchased mine Summer 2021). Specifically, it fits the Kobalt with an oblong bolt not a round bolt. If you have the round bolt like in this video then it won't fit your trimmer.
@@jvidalert1155 1 - I would drive down to the local parts store or "Lowes" and go to the nut and bolt isle. Take your Kobalt unit with you and find a nut on that isle that will fit the threads and hold the washers in place. You can use Loctite to hold the nut in place. 2 - Contact "Kobalt" directly @ 1-888-3KOBALT or 1-888-775-6937 and dispute your issue with them. You may be able to order the part directly to resolve your issue.
So far this video is great! Unfortunately, I can't get the screw (at 5:09) to turn, and I know that i'm supposed to be turning it to the right or clockwise. Please, anyone with suggestions???
Ok yes your correct the threads are reversed! So just make sure you have the clip removed and if so it may be seized. Just try spraying some PB Blaster on it and letting it soak for 15-30 min or so then try it again. Repeat as necessary.
Very good to know. I'm glad you got it working. Did you buy that at Lowes and how much was your repair? Also last question, did it bolt up the same way as this one or did it just go right on? Thanks for commenting! 💪🫵
Thanks so much for the video. Unfortunately, even though my model number is the same as yours, the design changed and my old nut does not work. Probably going to have to return the replacement head. By the way, my snap ring came out easily with a screw driver; didn't have to buy a tool.
Well that's too bad. It seems as if they had many designs. Which makes me question if they were trying to address a flaw or just change it up. Hopefully you can find a fix for yours. Thanks for watching.
I don't have that model so unfortunately I'm not sure. What I can say is this will work for almost any kind of trimmer. Just improvise and adjust where needed. For example you may need a different size washer, ect. Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much for this! I am in the same bboat here. Does the old string spools work on the new head unit? I have replacement spools pre loaded with string at all times for when I run out that way I can just grab and go and restring the next spool after weed eating. Did not know if I needed to get specfic ones for the new head unit. Thanks again for this video!
Hey, I'm glad this helped you out. Those new spools won't work with this thing, but it's super easy and cheap to just buy one big roll. I'd recommend that since it's really easy to wind onto the unit. It doesn't take long at all, and it's way cheaper. You can even use your old wire to wind onto the new head to save some money, too. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hello. Quick question. What keeps the replacement head from moving? When i tighten with the original nut it is able to move because it is smaller than the space where the hex bolt was. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks
I recommend using the (x3) 10mm washers, then the new head, then the nut. After the nut put the snap ring back on. It will not move after that. Maybe try rewatching from where it's diensembeled to the end again. I hope this helps.
Ok sounds good, just make sure to follow specifically how I did it and it will work 👌. The washers are very, very inexpensive too. Thank you, you have a great night as well!
Thank you so much for this video. If you would please share somehow with your viewers that I’ve had the same problem for years I bought a green 60 V system. It has the identical head as the cobalt . I ordered a new bump head from green works and they keep sending me the wrong part And cobalt you can’t find them. To my surprise, WORK and cobalt are the same company so my green works has no bump head and I buy a cobalt which has now no bump head and I can’t replace it. What a racket. Thank God, my cobalt finally burned out and I’m taking it back to Lowe’s for a replacement. They guaranteed for five years, but they will ask for the sales receipt, the bump heads that I ordered from Green WORK look exactly like the ones from the Huskvarna T 25.
I think its sort of like most products. The BIG names make all the products. I agree I think it is a huge money racket! I don't believe in a throw away society where I really like to be able to fix my stuff if it is still working. Its a shame it's got to this point. I will make an updated video to convey this to everyone as I know it is very helpful information. Thank you for sharing you would be surprised how many people look through and read the comments for information to help them! Thanks for watching!!!!
@amosgonzalez6953 You're welcome. Again, I'm not surprised with that either! I have some ridiculous stories from the big box stores, too.. 🤣 I'm glad you kept the receipt. It's crazy that you had a 5 year warranty. How did you do that? That came in very handy, and it saved you frustration, time, and money.
Thank you. BTW, that is a "snap ring" with "snap ring pliers" and it's "right tightly, lefty loosey" so you would say "it has reverse threads that tighten counterclockwise". 😊
You are the Man!!! Just like the other highly disappointed Kobalt customers.,for the same reasons...im so GLAD their's fellas like you...Good Karma to you Sir
🤣🤣 Thus I learned why NOT to purchase a store brand from here on out. I only purchase name brand now. But it could happen to any brand. Also everything can be fixed... mostly haha 🤣 Thanks for watching!
@TheXant718 Hey there, I didn't just swap out the spring. If you watch the video, you'll see I replaced the entire head. Kobalt has a bunch of different models, and they've made some small changes here and there. I mentioned the model I have in the video. A lot of people have commented that they had a different model or that there wasn't a snap ring, and they explained what they did to fix their specific issue. Everyone has been using the T25 with little to no changes from what I did. Hopefully, this helps you out. I think one or two people used a different brand head, but you can read through the comments to find that info. I would only try that if the T25 didn't work for me.
I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use th-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.
Well, if it was me, I would improvise and do the same thing, but with your 24v max. Take the head apart and see if you can do the same head as mine, then go from there.
I wonder if this will work on the kobalt kst 2540 .. well looks like reading another comment that the Makita Trimmer head Part No. 191R00-0 should work. Thank goodness I really like the trimmer otherwise.
The washers might have been a different size than the ones I used. I didn't have to force mine in, and they went in smoothly. Did you try removing the screw and then running your unit? The nut and washers only hold it on the wacker.
They're 10mm, maybe just not machined well... I ended up chipping the walls a bit and they did fit snugly. I also realized the seizing up was because I had forgot to be the small metal cylinder piece back in. Now my problem is that I can't get the blue bump cap to stay down! Even if I force the whole assembly together, it'll come loose inside and spool out all the wire. Any help is appreciated!
@nathanprindler Sounds like there are too many washers, or there is dirt or debris on the head. You need to rewatch and do exactly as I did it. I'm not sure why there is so much trouble with yours. Try taking a washer out or 2, then see if it works.
There you go, good job. Now at least you're up and running. Unfortunately, there's no perfect way to do it. It's all an experiment with each different [thing].
thanks for this. Do you want to use enough washers so that the nut, when tightened, will remain above the hex indent? If that is the case, then I, like another poster, will need 6 washers. With only 3, there is a little play and the head can move slightly off center relative to that screw in the center.
Your welcome, just put enough so the head is snug however many the case is for you. The most important thing is to make sure that it is snug and tight. It seems they made a few variations of the Kobalt. You may have the same model as the other person that had to use 6 washers. Thanks again for watching!
No, I do not believe that they will work. However, you may remove the wire from the old heads and insert it into the new one, thus avoiding any waste. Additionally, prefilled spools tend to be more expensive. Purchasing a large spool and winding it onto the head yourself is a cost-effective and practical solution.
@@HowToDIYMoore I had bought a pack of cheap kobalt prefills spools off Amazon before my original head broke. I can confirm that they do fit and work with the husky replacement head.
@bradbaker9367 Awesome! That sounds like it worked out great for you! What are the chances of that? I bet you were so surprised in a good way that it worked out. Thanks again for sharing your experience! The more info, the more we can help others through it, too.
Thanks, I don't know for sure, but all weed eaters should be similar. If this doesn't work, you should be able to use the idea and fix it in a similar way. I appreciate you watching!
Could you possibly tell me the diameter of the 10 mm washers ? Outside to outside edge. I bought some 10 mm washers and they will not fit into the hexagonal area .
I don't have the exact diameter without pulling my unit apart, but this is the link to the exact washer I used when I repaired mine. This link is also in the description of the video along with the other items I used. 👉 Hillman 5-Count 10Mm Stainless Steel Metric Flat Washer ➡ www.lowes.com/pd/Hillman-5-Count-10-mm-Stainless-Steel-Metric-Flat-Washers/3713896
@@HowToDIYMoore Do to the distance Lowes is from my house and ordering time. I came up with a different solution . I took the black nut spacer you threw out. Except mine was silver. I drilled the threads out of it so it would fit down on the threaded stud of Kobalt . Then I ground the part off of it that was in the spring. Put it right back in the T25 head and slid it down on the Kobalt stud and screwed the nut back on it. Basically I used that piece instead of the washers. But the idea of using the T25 assembly came from you. Thanks again .
@@billcoffman7380 I'm sorry I didn't give you the exact measurement. If I didn't have to clean the unit with pressure washer ( which my exterior hose is winterized) and pull apart my unit I would have done this for you. I am glad you were able to get this completed and fixed. You had an awesome idea to get it done! It always feels good to save money and repair something that works completely fine. At the end of the day all that matters is that it is up and running! You're welcome! Thank you to you too, and I appreciate you watching my video!
I used 4 washers to get mine tight, but after I put everything back together, with a fully charged battery, it just clicks and won't spin the head. It seems to tighten the nut even more and won't spin. Thoughts?
Awesome video!!!! Gotta fix my buddy's trimmer... if he needs to get new spools down the road, can he buy the same Lowe's one as before? Or does he have to get the Husqvarna one? Or are they the same?
Thanks!!! He just needs to buy the huge roll of line. He can fill the one that comes with it as needed. I bought one big roll 8 years ago and still have ¾ of a roll remaining. No sense in wasting money on pre rolled spools. But he needs to get the Husqvarna one if he wants the pre filled ones.
Kobalt uses a 10mm x 1 lh thread pitch. The Stihl fa85 and fs90 uses the same thread 10mm x 1 mm pitch lh. So any head assembly that is designed for that Shihl could be modified to fit the 40v Kobalt.
I would get you some PB Blaster penetrative spray. Then, soak it into that stuff and let it sit several times till it breaks free. That's what I would personally do first. Then go from there.
This should work relatively close for most trimmers with the same setup. You will just have to modify some of the pieces. I'd say give it a shot. If you have to take it to the store and fit the washers to it there. That's what I did.
Thank you for your video i was at Lowes last night and as fate would have it the employees knew nothing only that they did not carry it.. i quit dealing with lowes a few years ago because their employees appear to come from the funny farm or they act like it. but after your great video i will be will order on line . i actually purchase mine at a garage sale and the owner lied to me and said "yeah man you can buy the replacement at a lowes" , that is why he the lying ass sold i t cause he could no t find it and was not smart enpough to google and watch your video. THANK YO U SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEO , YOU DE MAN!!

@@leronford Great job doing the research and getting it fixed!
OMG!

That's great!!! Awsome job! I'm glad this helped you out. Thanks for watching.
I'm curious about how you used the awl, as our trimmer's nut (once the C ring was removed) isn't budging despite a lot of leverage.
Did you try to go backward with the threads in reverse? Maybe that was the issue... If not, try using PB Blaster. Spray the nut and let it soak. Repeat as necessary.
@@HowToDIYMoore Yep, tried both directions & marinating in PB Blaster.
@databaseminer19 Well shoot, ok I will do some thinking and if I come up with an idea to help I will message you... Just keep periodically spraying with pb, and let me know if you get it.

Stay tuned.

Awsome I'm glad this has helped you. Thank you for watching! 💪

You CAN get a new head by calling Kobalt. About $13, but I hate bump heads. Trying ro put on my Pivotrim head.
Great to know, it's funny how the part isn't available in the stores. Some people I have spoke to had trouble getting it.
I ordered it last week and it is a newer style than my 40v (purchased mine Summer 2021). Specifically, it fits the Kobalt with an oblong bolt not a round bolt. If you have the round bolt like in this video then it won't fit your trimmer.

1 - I would drive down to the local parts store or "Lowes" and go to the nut and bolt isle.

@@HowToDIYMoore. Ok thank you. I will give it a try. I need to get the washers. Have a great night :)
Call tools are sold exclusively at those and now all cobalt tools come with a five-year guarantee but then again it helps to have your receipt handy
Kobalt tools
Thank you. BTW, that is a "snap ring" with "snap ring pliers" and it's "right tightly, lefty loosey" so you would say "it has reverse threads that tighten counterclockwise". 😊
Haha I know I got tounge twisted 🤣 and had a brain fart at the same time. Thanks for watching!
@@HowToDIYMoorehahaha I like "lefty screwey" better 😂
@@unclefreddieDied Agreed! 🤣
Thank you so much! It works great!
Your welcome I'm glad your issue is resolved! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video, it is helpful
It's great to hear that it was helpful for you. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment! Is yours up and running again now?
The spring on mine is bigger than the Husqvarna t25 will still work?
@TheXant718 Hey there, I didn't just swap out the spring. If you watch the video, you'll see I replaced the entire head. Kobalt has a bunch of different models, and they've made some small changes here and there. I mentioned the model I have in the video. A lot of people have commented that they had a different model or that there wasn't a snap ring, and they explained what they did to fix their specific issue. Everyone has been using the T25 with little to no changes from what I did. Hopefully, this helps you out. I think one or two people used a different brand head, but you can read through the comments to find that info. I would only try that if the T25 didn't work for me.
mine didn't have snap ring either I used less washers in order to get to fit...seems to be solid fix.thank you
@TheXant718 Awesome, I'm glad it has work for you! Thanks for letting me know and watching as well!
That's great she can do it herself. Its good that you can do the whole yard all at once! Thanks for watching!
I have the same problem with a 24 max, what can I do to replace the head?
Well, if it was me, I would improvise and do the same thing, but with your 24v max. Take the head apart and see if you can do the same head as mine, then go from there.
Great job....thanks
Thank you!
do you know if this will work on the 24v trimmers also?
Unfortunately I cannot personally verify that, but I can tell you the same basic concept works for most so far.
I wonder if this will work on the kobalt kst 2540 .. well looks like reading another comment that the Makita Trimmer head Part No. 191R00-0 should work. Thank goodness I really like the trimmer otherwise.
Hey, thanks again for watching! I just saw your other comment. Please let me know how your repair goes, and good luck!
The 10mm washers didn't quite fit in my T25 replacement head. I had to force them and then the head seized up when I reassembled it.
I couldn't get the bump cap to stay in. I finally made it work by putting the old wide spring in the bump cap.
There you go, good job. Now at least you're up and running. Unfortunately, there's no perfect way to do it. It's all an experiment with each different [thing].
Thank You!!!
You're welcome
thanks for this.
Do the kobalt spools fit that head?
@@HowToDIYMoore yes sir thank you for putting out the video!
@@bradbaker9367 You're welcome
Great video! Will this also work with the 24v MAX? If not, is there a recommended replacement?
Thanks, I don't know for sure, but all weed eaters should be similar. If this doesn't work, you should be able to use the idea and fix it in a similar way. I appreciate you watching!
Could you possibly tell me the diameter of the 10 mm washers ? Outside to outside edge. I bought some 10 mm washers and they will not fit into the hexagonal area .
I don't have the exact diameter without pulling my unit apart, but this is the link to the exact washer I used when I repaired mine. This link is also in the description of the video along with the other items I used.

@@HowToDIYMoore Okay, thanks.
@@billcoffman7380 Your welcome. Also you can just go to Lowes with that item number and buy them like that.
Thoughts?
I found the problem. I put the stupid factory spacer upside down. LOL Works like a champ!
@@bradpartee6020 Well shoot great job Brad! Keep it going 💪😉. Glad this hack worked for you, thanks for watching 👀
Does anybody know where to get that original spacer that goes on the bolt?
Hey, you can check eBay or try searching by your model and serial number on Google.
@@HowToDIYMoore thank you again!!! I forgot about the huge rolls
Your welcome!
Can you use a t35 instead of a t25
To be honest im not sure I haven't tried. It should be the same concept though. Let me know if it works.
Kobalt uses a 10mm x 1 lh thread pitch. The Stihl fa85 and fs90 uses the same thread 10mm x 1 mm pitch lh. So any head assembly that is designed for that Shihl could be modified to fit the 40v Kobalt.
At the 5 minute mark, removing the old head. My center screw will not budge either way. Any ideas on how to get it to budge?
I would get you some PB Blaster penetrative spray. Then, soak it into that stuff and let it sit several times till it breaks free. That's what I would personally do first. Then go from there.
@@HowToDIYMoore thanks, going to give it a try.
Sure, no problem. Let me know how it goes. I think there's just some corrosion or gunk on the nut. Good luck, and keep me posted.
So it seems they changed the T25 head bc mine does not pop right on and I can’t find a washer to fit like in the video
That's not good, you may have to implement this concept but do a different head. Also your trimmer may be completely or slightly different than mine.
What is the exact size of the washers?
10mm, also the link is in the description if that helps out.
Thanks for putting this together. Will this work on a 24 Volt Kobalt trimmer as well?
