I was surprised you didn't notice how the Note20 ultra nailed the edges in the dog portrait photo, while all the others failed. Interesting because the iphone12 has a lidar sensor.
Nice blind test comparison. Well done! I do think these blind tests are most effective as there is no bias. It would be interesting if you would have omitted the Pixel 5 for the S20U as it has newer camera tech. The pixel has amazing processing for years old hardware but it has started to clearly show that it can't start up against the heavyweights! 🦾

I would have preferred the images to be larger. The video had a lot of wasted screen space around the images and it made them harder to see, especially when you're looking for fine details.
Dude should put up full res photos on a website to compare against rather than looking at 2.1MP recompressed images lol.

Really curious about the results when the 12 pro max comes out. I agree that many shots on 11 pro were better than the 12, don’t really understand why, maybe it needs optimization

I think it's personal preference, the fact that on almost all photos you had to specifically look for differences means that all 4 phones have a good camera.
If I wanted to make it as fair as possible, I would've given 1 point to the best photo, 0,5 to second best and -0,5 to worst one, because the consistency matters too.

I've been using the pixel 3 and I'm quite used to the pixel's style of photos and I like them a lot but I hope they'll replace the old sensor for a new one because based on this test, the note did slightly better. However, I have to say that I can't go wrong with either of these phones. All of them are really good imo.
They’re all mostly good, but if I’m to rate them overall:
1st place - Note 20 Ultra
2nd place - iPhone 11 (surprisingly)
3rd place - iPhone 12
4th place - Pixel

That front facing video you took with the Note 20 Ultra looked absolutely amazing btw. And Google really needs to replace their old sensor, Apple and Samsung have finally surpassed them in terms of camera quality this year imo, but some of their photos still look great due to their amazing software. Once they repalce the old sensor on their next phone I think the Pixel (paired with Google's amazing software) will regain the top spot among smartphones in terms of camera quality.

Love this video! This is, hands down, the best way to compare cameras. Personally, I picked the 12 over the 11 quite a few more times than you. For me, the 12 and 11 ended up being about equal. That’s pretty sad. Hopefully the 12 Pro Max will mix it up a bit.

-> so in my case there is no big difference at the result...
(But to be honest: at some point I just picked a photo because I had to and not because I saw a „real“ difference - but when it came to dark mode and more specific settings I had a clear choice which to pick. If I really should have to pick a phone based on this test I would just pick my results for the important comparisons and count them...)

Note 20 excelled in anything involving zoom. Pixel 5 is easily the most natural, and I prefer that, and the iPhones are the best in video and surprisingly in night mode. Thanks for the test, the camera software race is neck and neck

Very interesting. The reality is each sensor and software set up produce slightly different images, which will appeal to slightly different people. Theres never going to be an all out winner as todays tech in general is fairly equally mathcehed and very good for the time. Great video.

Sadly you forgot front portrait mode at night, and also you should've used the Panorama inside the Photo Sphere mode on the Pixel, the "normal" panorama mode on Pixels is complete garbage.

Yeaa see this makes my point perfectly with the night shots... Its picking the least bad as opposed to the best!!. For the day shots I picked the 12pro 3 times 11pro 4 times but the night shots I didn't pick either iPhones once!. I mean I know most ppl have just their phone cameras to take snapshots at night. But if your serious about night photography forget smartphone cameras the shadow noise on all of them was terrible!. Like I've said for a long time my sony RX100va wipes the floor with all of them and I got that on an Amazon deal at £419!!!!. Imagine having a full frame, like the A7III which is now quite old. For night video/photos honestly forget smartphones unless your playing around with snapshots.

As an S10+ user i really likes how Apple uses the camera. I guess i'll be switching to the 12 Pro Max.

I did not expect this result at all. I have watched a couple of these videos now and have loved Pixel 5 results. I just seem to love what the software does.
So to have a runaway victory by the 12 Pro this time is extremely surprising. I try to pause before you give any opinion to limit the bias even more.
There wasn't really anything I disliked about the 11 Pro results, I just seemed to like the 12 Pro more each time.
The Note 20 Ultra won all the zoom images. Pixel lost a few more processing results than I have seen over the course of this comparison.
I'm extremely interested to see how the iPhone 12 Pro Max does in this style of comparison as it has a few more tricks.

Definitely 12 pro in night mode was so much better than the rest.
On tech tablets the Note 20 is much better then the iPhone 12 in night scenes. Much better dynamic range, especially in the highlights. In most comparisons I've seen the Note beats the iPhone 12.

This was a nice idea except (1) the images aren’t as clear over TH-cam, (2) it felt like you wanted to pick the 12, and (3) your descriptions skewed what people would’ve picked on their own.
This really just comes down to personal preference

Without you being there taking the photos its impossible to judge cuz you can't compare colour accuracy and how the image should look in real life...

I was really impressed with the Note 20. Given there is only a year between the 11 pro and the 12 pro, it's not surprising they were very similar in image appearance. If you removed the 11 and replaced it with something else, it may swing more picks towards the 12 pro and you may get very different results. Not surprised about the Pixel, it's the cheapest of the lot.

I think that when doing a video like this, you should be comparing images from a technical standpoint, as opposed to your strictly subjective technique. You use too much "I think" or "I like", and to be honest, what you may like doesn't necessarily mean the one you chose is the "best" image.

I’ve been through a similar dilemma last year, chose the Note 10+ which had the best camera hardware back then, and after 1 month of use, sold it for an iPhone 11. The software on iPhones is far superior so ultimately it counts a lot towards overall long-term satisfaction, even just for the camera feature.
Why hasn't anyone figured this very cool way to compare mobile cameras? I've never been so engaged! LOL! (Maybe there are others out there, but it's my first time doing this and it's fun.) I'm a Samsung fan and user, and I hate that I kept picking either IP11Pro and IP12Pro! Why!?! LOL! I should give Iphone a shot next time.
Overblown exposure of 12 Pro video was probably due to HDR?? But definitely 11 Pro is more polished...maybe they'll improve 12 Pro over time...and 12 Pro Max will be interesting to compare
