Dance Around is definitely starting to pick up steam in arcades based on what I saw while in Japan. Lots of people playing, but not really so long at a time - definitely a fun time with surprisingly good tracking for a dance Kinect-style game. Now if only game modes weren't gated behind having to use PASELI ugh...

Thanks for the insight! I finally came across a TH-cam channel that highlighted a lot of the Dance Around songs, so I do think the game is drawing a few more players now. I dig the game, but it definitely won't replace a couple of the other dance games I try to play when I have the time.

I just played this at my local Round1 too. The tracking was so good! I was really impressed. I had so much fun with it. I did see people play it, but I must admit, I passed it up the first time because I was embarrassed to dance in front of people. I saw two dudes having a great time and I think that helped me loosen up and go for it later in the night lol. Across from them were competitive DDR players so maybe my area is just full of rhythm game enthusiasts. :•)
Did you notice any cabinets at your Round1 which said something along the lines of “This game is only for use in Japan?” one of the retro cabinets had that on a warning screen prior to the title. No one snitch on them! lmao.

Round One is a Japanese company that started opening arcades in the United States a few years ago. I'm sure the company has arrangements with publishers like Konami, otherwise I doubt the features like eAmuse would be active. So I think the arcade will be safe for now!
And I'm glad you got to try out Dance Around. It's actually a fun game. At least in our location, the cabinets are all the way in the back, so playing it is a little more private compared to most of the other music games. If you don't take the game too seriously, I think you get a better experience out of it.

@@gemubaka whoa cool!! I totally didn’t know that about Round One. That makes sense why there’s a good amount of all-Japanese only cabinets with sick games I’d never seen before. Thanks for sharing! I thought the eAmuse stuff was so interesting too. Saving progress/level on an arcade cabinet??? beyond cool. I might just be unobservant (or mainly just get super stoked over retro games when I go to arcades bc I’m a video game history junkie lol) but I genuinely hadn’t seen that tech before even though it’s apparently been around for a while.
In mine the rhythm games are delegated to a corner right by the entrance, lol. But I did have a lot of fun with it so I’d do it again!!

The eAmuse cards definitely beat having to bring your PlayStation memory cards to the arcade to save DDR data!

Is actually a good song, imo.

hey thanks for you video. iam sooo much into IIDX, i have been frequenting korea and japan back between 2009-2014 and was playing those games a lot. now in germany it is absolutely impossible to play them, so i occasionally check them on yt, what new stuff has been released lately. thanks for your impressions!

Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it!
I agree it's getting tougher to play games like this. I really enjoy arcades, so I do a fair amount of traveling to try to play these games and share them with other people. I'm glad they continue to release, as I've always loved the rhythm games. I like IIDX, but I have a real soft spot for the original 5-key Beatmania games. It's kind of crazy to think Konami is still releasing IIDX games to the point where they just recently hit number 30!

Hmmm reminds me of Dance Evolution, probably uses the same engine with few improvements (so it probably actually uses a Kinect).
I've seen other clips of this (th-cam.com/video/V9CUYt20mIk/w-d-xo.html)
which use the same choreography for a few songs as Dance Evolution and also very similar effects.
So I suspect that there are more complex songs out there
and Dance aROUND is actually just an iteration of Dance Evolution, probably also to make it more accessible.
(It seems to have removed the ripples? Which were actually the "hit circles" you were supposed to touch with your hand and just replaced them with general areas?)
That being said I think that Dance Evolution is a fine game, that already back then (10+ years ago when it released on Xbox 360) suffered from the small song list.
And if it's anything like Dance Evolution, then it's true that this game has a balancing problem for the difficulty and detection.
In my opinion, Hard for example is actually easier, because you will accidentally hit more objects, making you survive longer, as compared to Normal.

I always figured it was intended to be an updated version of Dance Evolution, it just completely redid the presentation aspect of the game. We never had Dance Evolution cabinets where I live, so I mostly played the downloadable game Rhythm Party on the Xbox 360. That's not quite the same, but I think it proved as a "test" for what Konami wanted Dance Evolution to become. Similarly, Future Tom Tom uses the Kinect, and I've only ever seen that cabinet twice at events.
At least with the gameplay and balancing, Dance Around is something I would never play seriously. I actually like to do simple dance moves when I play these rhythm games, so Dance Around is more about movement and fun to me. I think it does a pretty good job in that regard.

@@gemubaka I don't know if that's something you didn't know yet, but Dance Evolution was called Dance Masters in America.
Thanks for pointing to the other games,
I will have a look at them.
Yes, I believe that while Dance Evolution isn't really hard nor does it judge correctly, but if you want to play it seriously (actually doing the poses and getting AAA on hardest diff)
      then I don't think it's that easy.

Played this yesterday :) hoping they add more vocaloid music into the selection. Even outside of that the selection seems pretty limited though.

It was definitely a limited selection at launch. I haven't been able to play the game since September, so I'm hoping to be able to revisit it soon!

You get more songs unlocked with e-amusement, but I admit the starting lineup of songs isn’t too enticing. I hope they continue to import more Dance Evolution songs and routines.
