Same reason for my dislike of the supernatural. The natural is *plenty* enough, why must we always make natural beauty out to be something *divine* something *outside of reality and nature*. Naturalism is fucking dope and is probably all there is, I think adding all this fluff to it is nigh disrespectful.

What I love about the Allegory of the Cave is the multitude of choices that awareness brings. You can join the shadow casters. Return to the fold watching the shadows. Remain outside with the others who are aware. Eliminate the shadow casters to the wrath of the watchers. Create your own fire and shadow plays. So many options.

I keep coming back to you. You have such a beautiful and insightful way of looking at things. What you said about how repressed emotions can grow, come back years later and manifest in the most ugly of ways really hit me hard. It's the epitome of the times we are living in. Everyone is just so angry all the time. I wish more people would choose the path of true knowledge and spiritual truth. I would rather burn my eyes looking at the sun than spend another minute being fed lies.

I always found the allegory in "They Live" to be a better critique of our society than the Matrix. Yes, the Matrix is better on action, etc. But "They Live" is the flip of the Matrix. In "They Live" it isn't an illusion or shadow play that is distracting from reality, but rather that material reality hides true ideological purpose and underpinnings of material society. If "They Live" though as the Matrix, the sunglasses would have been imposed by the overlords to hide reality, instead the glasses in "They Live" strip away false appearances and expose the true agenda. Also in "They Live" there is like an 8-minute fight scene where John Nada fights the Kieth David character where he refuses to put on the glass, but why if he thinks nothing will happen? It because he knows the glasses work that he resists, knowing he can't unknown the truth once exposed, so he prefers ignorance until he is forced not to. If I had written a sequel to the Matrix it would have explored a similar allegory to "They Live".

I love The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. It's like he is the "one" in the Matrix, where he constantly decides if his reality isn't real it ought to be and then it does become real... or does it? And what does it matter? The only thing that gets him down is a lack imagination and enjoyment.

I'm so glad you mentioned the Hindu themes. Just seem things I picked up from my perspective which I think you also may have picked up on but did not include. Neo and Trinity are 2 aspects of Lana and Trinity becoming the powerful one at the end goes in line with Lana transitioning. I also believe the movie is confirmation that their real world is just another layer and Neo nor Trinity are fully aware yet. The whole movie does well to getting the viewer to question our reality. I really liked Resurrections. I feel as though its very rewatchable because it's trying to share a message throughout. Having had an out of body experience in my life it connects with me.

Absolutely killed it, Danika. So spot on with your thesis. Over time, I've softened a bit on the sequels, but the missed potential after that first film is jaw dropping. The Hindu element would've been an amazing ending for this series. Sure, it's a little outside the public norm, but then again, so was the original. So people would adjust to it. Nothing wrong with forcing people to expand their mind.

The problem with the simulation theory is that it's not falsifiable. Even if we prove that it's impossible, it doesn't actually prove that it's impossible, because we can just say that the simulation was created in a way so that people in the simulation can't prove that it's a simulation.

You gotta understand the context this movie came out in. the mid 90s was "Hacker Movie" / "Computer" movie galore. Hackers, Virtuosity, Johnny Mnemonic, ect. Those are what we had as references. What seemed to set this Matrix movie apart from the trailers we saw back then was that it seemed to be like a more action oriented special fx type thing, we really didnt think too much of it other than "looks like a cool action hacker movie with that crazy special effect (bullet time was shown in the trailer was was the main reason most people went to see it) Then you went to see it and it had that insane philosophical real/fake world plot on top of insane effects. People were expecting Hackers 2 With Guns. THATS why it was so mind blowing

Matrix is more gnostic and taoist, imo. The masculine is always succumbing to the feminine. The Architect is a demiurge and the oracle might as well be called Sophia. The Architect is rigid but the oracle's efforts leads to the end of 3. The Merovingian is basically the Hades to Persephone and his will is overturned twice by Persephone when she feels the love between Neo and Trinity. Neo is led to believe he is The One throughout the movie and he doesn't become the one until Trinity tells him when he is at his most vulnerable, apparently dead even. It has references to other things but the two beating hearts of the Matrix are taoism and gnosticism.

8:35 as I Ph.D student in Philosophy (w/ master in Philosophy of Mind) I was really impressed to watch that Danika did her homework to talk about The Simulation Hypothesis (Nick Bostrom is the one to search about it in the current version - "The Simulation Hypothesis" is the obvious paper- but maybe David Chalmers too, specially "The Matrix as Metaphysics") and the Scepticism about the external world (that started probably with Descartes in the current form but was better stated by Hilary Putnam). Really good work!

The latest Matrix movie is even more Morrison-like because it's almost entirely 4th wall. Not a complaint but a compliment.
