Best Motorcycle Trailer Ever

  • Best motorcycle trailer ever? Yup! Welcome to Motovlog #4. Check out this drop-deck motorcycle trailer! It lowers flat to the ground so you don't need to push/ride your motorcycle up any ramps to get it into the trailer. Then it raises back up!
    This trailer is used by Motorcycle Towing Toronto. The biz was started in 2016 to offer motorcyclists in the Toronto area a more affordable means of getting their bikes moved around. At the time, there was only really one big name in motorcycle towing, and he was charging a starting rate of around $100. So I started to tow bikes for friends, and friends of friends, to help motorcyclists save a few bucks here in the city. The rest is history...
    Give the website a look if you're looking for motorcycle towing in Toronto: www.motorcycletowing.ca
    The trailer was hand built by the professionals at Klinger Trailers Inc. in Paw Paw, Michigan, made it's way up to Northern Ontario, and pampered and enjoying life in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

    I always strap the back wheel because if the bike bounces to the side it usually tips over just a single cord through the wheel from one side of the trailer then loop it round itself and then to the other side of the trailer

    • @YouMotorcycle
      @YouMotorcycle  ปีที่แล้ว

      and if one strap fails, the bike falls over, whereas when you use four straps, if any strap fails, each one has a backup... food for thought

    Seems like a great idea. I imagine it would work great for someone with back issues that cant easily muscle a bike up a ramp. I just use a 2x8 sheet of 3/4 plywood that I've reinforced as a ramp and load mine into a van. It's cheap, it works but sort of sucks sometimes (especially with a flat tire). I can see this being much easier

    • @YouMotorcycle
      @YouMotorcycle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Or when you're stuck moving a bike on a rainy icy cold day.
      You can add a winch to inside your van, have the winch pull your bike if it gets a flat. It becomes a two person job instead of one but it could help with your situation

    I always thought it’s better to attach the straps to the lower portion of the fork. That way the suspension movement doesn’t loosen up the straps upon breaking when the suspension compresses. I would however also use straps on the handlebars but just as an additional anchor points to reduce side to side movement.

    • @YouMotorcycle
      @YouMotorcycle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Paul. Some bikes are easier than others for strapping down there. A few bikes will have a front fender that would interview (strapping down the fork would cause chaffing and could damage the paint on the fender). I think I went up top on this one just to make it more visible/obvious what I was doing.

    Man the real trailers there a bit bigger and they work of 2 pulleys you don't even have unhitch the trailer if you stand on it it will drop then most trailers like this have a wintch system that is hooked up to a hand crank. But the reason his isn't like that is because the wheels are all the way at the back and not in the middle it makes a big difference when you drop it and gives the trailer room to pivot. Look up Harley drop bed trailer all the Harley guys use these

    Seems alot moving parts on that trailer. Why not just use a drop-down gate and drive it up? If it's raining I would think what your using could be a hassle,and if you forgot to re-latch your hitch kinda like you did in this video. Could spell disaster.

    • @YouMotorcycle
      @YouMotorcycle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because most bikes that need towing don't run, and pushing a non running 800 lb motorcycle up a metal ramp could spell much worse disaster, even if you don't almost forget anything 😉 I used to have that kind of setup. Pushing dead bikes up a slippery incline in rain and snow was not for the faint of heart. This is much better. My new system is even better still.

    • @YouMotorcycle
      @YouMotorcycle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not to mention, you ever try to get a bike with a low ground clearance over where the gate/ramp and the ground meet? Most low cruisers/choppers can't clear it, you end up scraping the bottom of the bike with that kind of setup, if you can get it to make it over at all.

  • @medcitymoto
    @medcitymoto 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don't tie down the extra strap onto the bike itself where it'll rub off the damn paint! Tie it onto the trailer away from the bike. Otherwise, that trailer concept is fucking cool and I want one in a two-bike setup.
