@@andrewjohnstone963 I think it's more that a lot of people don't know who he is... For those of us who like (at least) one of the bands he was in, he's appreciated. None of those bands were particularly mainstream tho', so he remains something of a cult figure.

@@andrewjohnstone963 I was 12 and I went to a specialist record shop to buy Real Life, I was there too. Even though punk was quite obviously still happening, it is even now ( thank goodness) , Magazine were not a punk band. Having been beaten up by 'real' punks for 'liking that gay puffter's prog rock band and coming out of their gigs for being gay (I am not, if I was though I would shout it from the heavens) I will restate that Magazine are the best band to come out of the demise of punk, which only really was 'dominant' through the life of The Sex Pistols.

Magazine really changed music. A cerebral experience indeed, bit still rock n roll. Barry Adamsons bass is truly epic. He played for The Bad Seeds later. Dave formula transcendant synth ,& Mc Geoch with his guitar sound which is so .....comfortable? What am I trying to say? The intro to shot by both sides, its like the first time you hear it, you already know it because its so 'right!' I know what I meant anyway. (Something to do with the fact that we were always on LSD when these brilliant bands were at their peak. As were we.)
And it sounds just as good now as it did 40 years ago.

@@zararity Thank you for your reply, obviuosly it was in a T.V. studio and knowing that I used the word 'gig' intentionally, ironically. To see this band play to a static audience who clapped politely at the end at first sight seems a bizarre crime to all things punk, but conversely it could be seen as pure genius, the juxtaposition creating an intense dynamic that pretty well defines the genre. I enjoyed it immensley, It was, remains so and always will be very strange.
