1982 Kawasaki 750 Ltd Rebuild (Part 17 shims, clearances, timing, camchain tensioner)

- I was able to pick up five new shims for USD 8.00 a piece. These 13mm diameter shims are not readily available everywhere, but I got lucky yesterday afternoon at a Kawasaki dealer who had a number of them in stock. It took me two efforts to get them all right within the specified tolerances, but it all worked out fine and all eight shims have identical tolerances. After fitting all the shims, I was able to re-install the rear camchain tensioner. (the newer version for this type of engine) Now remains to finish the rest of the engine, such as painting the covers and adding new gaskets. I might need new clutch plates, but I'm not sure about that yet.

I am rebuilding an 83 KZ750GT, I have not got it running and at lower revs the cam chain is very noisy and the motor begins to run roughly.
I am presuming the cam chain tensioner is not working correctly. You mentioned in your video that you are using the new version (of 2 versions).
Can you tell me how I con obtain the newer version??
I agree with Murray Newton. You skipped the chain tensioner installation. By chance did you filmed it? Please let me know.
What brand of manual do you use?

I have exactly the same bike as yours. Mine too, the motor sounds loose when cold
