My God, l played this many times when l 15 in 1962. It had that terrible CRT, in one game a friend and I wiped each other out by exchanges. It was a fun game. My copy is in storage along with D-Day. TACTICS Two, First Gettysburg, Chancelorsville, Blitzkrieg, Afrika Korps, etc. I had them all.
Omg wow - I was the one that created this tabletop sim map and so pleased to see someone use it. That’s cool!! The d10 combat chart is used more so for modern tournaments of the game since the original CRT is so brutal and a little aged
It was the first Avalon Hill Game I purchased as when I had saved up five bucks and went to Adams Hobby Shop about 1962, it was the only AH game they had available. I was really looking for D-Day which a friend had already introduced me to. Now in my 70's I have worked through this game and about 21 more AH games.
That's awesome! We are really hoping to bring a lot of these classics back to life on our channel - there should be more content so people can check them out! Thanks for your story and for watching!
I have played this game many, many times over the years and played the French against two players (1 being the Prussians & 1 being the PAA player) who were two brothers who were great gamers I had known for a long time and totally wiped out most of the Prussian army at Ligny leaving him a banged up Cav Corps (a 2 & a 1 Cav) and three weak Inf divisions which I then surrounded and wiped them out! While I was fighting the Prussians I simply played a waiting game with the PAA and when I had finished up with the Prussians I then sent Grouchy with a Cav corps and a Inf corps straight down the road to cut off the Prussian IV corps at there entry hex thus stopping them from making it to Waterloo! The PAA player ( the oldest brother and perhaps the best of the two) was trying to stop me from getting between him and Quatre Bras but with out the help of the Prussians on his left flank & them not showing up at Waterloo later he lost his army! His younger brother had not played the game since he was 13-14 years old and he later demanded a recount! The secret is to winning this game is using your Cav units in groups like Panzers to cut off, harass & encircle just like the Napoleonic Cav was used! If you don’t do this you will get creamed as the French player!
Afrika Korps and Stalingrad were our go to games, but I played Waterloo as well. Last time was the late 1980s. How about that computer tabletop simulator? Is it available?
@@LegendaryTactics Thank you very much. Vassal might be the way to go. Unfortunately, my wargaming buddies are scattered to the winds, so the chance of us getting together to play a game are slim.
AS I understand it, the French win if they wipe out the PAA armies, OR exit the north edge of the board with the equivalent of MORE than half of the remaining PAA combat factors. The PAA armies win if they wipe out the French or reduce them to LESS than half of their own remaining combat factors.
Yes, that is a different perspective on the victory conditions, but seems basically right to me! Remember that the PAA army will be reduced by defections at the end of each French turn in which units exit, so it is a more gradual process than your wording implies - unless the PAA player leaves the road to victory wide open and the French units stream into Brussels! The other thing that I would adjust is "reduce them to LESS than half of their own remaining combat factors *by the end of the time limit*" - as long as there is time on the clock, the French can potentially battle back! There is also the somewhat unusual victory that "if the PAA units are eliminated from the board, but remaining PAA reinforcements cannot enter because all entrances are blocked, and the French cannot exit enough units to win by defection, the PAA wins." Hope that helps!
@@LegendaryTactics perhaps. There was a game called Third Reich (I think) which was the WW2 European theatre but I’m not sure that AH. Waterloo is a bit difficult to win for the French but still fun.
Wow, great catch. Our thumbnail designer wrongly used a shot from "Waterloo 200". You're the first to notice. If we had prizes, you would win one of them.

Wow, those are some classics! Waterloo is fun, no question. I've enjoyed it every time I've played it!

Great to meet you! You did a great job on the module! We are going to be posting some more content soon on Waterloo and some older games as well!
Is there way to get the module?
I was goin to ask for the software name used in this video
Any chance of getting this as a "computer" based game, now? It would be awesome to play remotely, even with hex and counter games.
Thanks for doing this, my dad and played on tabletop simulator and referred to your video several times for help.
Glad we could be of assistance! I hope you had a great game!

This was one of the first games I owned as well. My first was 1776 which was given to me by a friend. It`s another great game by Avalon Hill.
Yes, I've heard great things about it, but have yet to play it
Great video! I look forward to seeing more Avalon Hill games being played and How to Play videos!
We're turning it all into a series! Time to bring back these old games and present them to a new generation!
Thanks for the memories; this was a fine trip thru some nostalgia!
You're welcome!
I had this game once but found it too complicated and thus gave it away. Gameplay of current games are much better.
Yes, the hobby has grown and evolved, and there are some amazing designs out there now! It doesn't mean these old designs aren't fun to play though
this is very nice enjoyed this so much
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!

It is available on tabletop simulator as well as vassal. As for a hard copy, I was able to find one at a thrift shop

How are they playing this in the video? What application are they using?
Why is "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" playing in the background? 😣
It sounded somewhat Napoleonic, I guess? :)
Free?
@@LegendaryTactics hahaha..no doubt from Southern France
Is the thumbnail blurry background the same game? It looks different

And Waterloo World? Interesting that the algorithm connected you from there to here...
