I remember when they came to my primary school in Glen Waverley. I actually taught myself Walkin' the Dog, Rock the Cradle, and Around the World. You could choose any yoyo as long as it said C Cola or Fanta on the side, and the kids went crazy for 'em. They were high quality, balanced units, with strings and spare parts available, some kids would pull them apart and polish the wooden axle where the string ran. When the inevitable copies started appearing, they were just that, copies, crappy, unbalanced copies, that could barely do The Spinner. Ah, those were the days, pure dangerous fun, no electronic interference.
Why were those American yo-yo guys on a Chilean Naval vessel? Speaking of which ... OMG the Esmeralda! It is a strikingly beautiful old ship. I lived in Tahiti for a few years in the 1990s and the Esmeralda used to come to Papeete every few months - it was a training vessel for the Chilean Navy at the time, and it looks like it was doing pretty much the same in the early 1960s.
I loved YoYo’s and spinning tops so much as a kid , parents not so much with all the black eyes and broken windows. Holy moly he turned that trick from a 🪀 into a 🛳 that’s amazing at the start Best trick ever 😂. And no racism he was collecting guys from all over the world all nationalities no girls allowed !!! It’s our club house 😂

As children the girls did not want us playing there games hopscotch ,Skipping , cats cradle , volley ball and Hokey etc it’s just how it was . Tree house boys only tea party girls only allowed sign above the door children will be children. Girls had there thing and boys had theres and the was a reason for it . But that’s another story which I’m sure you already know all about we grow up .
I'm luckily enough to have many yo'yo's from all different decades and countries,Mainly Coca Cola and Fanta ones.You name it and I've most likely got it,when I'm hard up for cash I sell some lol😎😎😎
