Adding TULIPS to 80,000+ BULB LAWN - Ep. 214

- Fall time means planting bulbs that will emerge in spring, including more Tulipa sylvestris and Tulipa 'Bronze Charm', the latter which is a new addition to the bulb lawn. However, I won't be planting too many here-just enough to fill an area where we "ran out" of bulbs when we were hand-planting the last 10,000 of them.
Special thanks to @espoma for partnering with us on the video.
Here are some of the items we're using:

Espoma Cow Manure: amzn.to/3MfwPH6

When you say, 10,000 bulbs...my eyes popped. Then you said you (with help) planted 70,000 last year. Wow! I only have a few to plant...no more than 50 bulbs, but I only have two small gardens. It will be beautiful next spring. The fall foliage is stunning in the background...also in the opening shot of the video. Love it.
Blood meal works great for deterring squirrels from digging up bulbs. Sprinkle a little in the hole with the bulb and a little on top once planted. The smell isn't the greatest but it definitely works!
I’m excited to see what happens this year! You know, your original planting is just about the last update that Cornell made to its bulb research website.
The bulb tone attracts animals so it's best not to use when planting. I use a granular animal repellent and cover up with leaf mulch (only works in flower beds). After a few days when the soil is settled, they don't bother the bulbs anymore. I come and sprinkle with bulb tone in the spring, just as everything is emerging and it always works great..
Always looking forward to bulbs blooming! 👍
Thank you Ms. Summer.🦃🍁🍂💚🙃
Can't wait to see next year's reveal of spring bulbs.
That will look great in spring 🌷🌸🌷👍🏼
I appreciate your tips and tricks, I am always looking for new ideas for my garden.
I love this idea. What do you do when the flowers die off? Do you then cut the grass with the rest of the lawn or do you leave it longer in those areas?
Good job! I Love all that you all are doing. I'm taking it all in and plan on using some of your ideas wherever possible. I'm very fond of the pollinators too. I have come to find out over the past 2-3 years that Quickfire Hydrangeas are big-time pollinator attractors'.
I didn't know that about these types of Hydrangeas. You never hear it talked about much at all either. I purchased 5 Firelight Hydrangeas from Planting Tree online in 2020. It wasn't until the late Summer of 2022 that I was able to see that they were Quickfire Hydrangeas and not the Firelights that I had ordered. I figured I would just keep these and not make a fuss about getting the wrong ones since these attract the pollinators so much more than the others. Thanks for all the hard work you all are doing for our land. It's much appreciated.
Tulips❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Summer, What are you going to do when there's nothing else to do?☺️❤
She deserves to just marvel at all her hard work!
@@thomasmarley3646 Yes, she does!❤️

Lucky, I have to plant mine in wire mesh so I don't lose them to 🤬voles
I would have to do that as well. By chance I realized that they leave the bulbs alone when I put cuttings from the rose on top.
@@gardentours interesting...
Are you going to get more, Ditch the lawn tshirts again?
Where are the chickens? Where is the new Tokkie?
i would say arguably this is more of a stunt than anything significant or maintainable - instead double down on compost, diversity, and trees plus forage strips and pollinator strips - these types of projects are more sustainable and you get more back instead of just focusing on aesthetics - branch out and try some moonshots and a/b tests as well
Please don't soak your bulbs in anything. Manure is sure to attract animals. You don't need "bulb tone" either. The bulbs have all the nutrient they need inside the bulb. To develop the bulb, feed them next year. Feeding them now is a total waste of time and money. It does matter that you are encouraging people to buy products that offer no help at all.
