Thanks Bhardwaj Sir For This Interview. As a matter of fact, I would like to tell that because of Mayyakam Enna I became A Professional Photographer By My Own Without Any Training Or So. It all happened automatically in my mind by visualisation my self as karthik swaminathan. Today I ran a successful business 'Stop & Shot Photography' A Movie Which Changed My Life Huge Respect To Selva Sir & Dhanush 🙏🙏🙏 Thank You So Much
40:00 I think this is the best explanation to feminists who criticize "Mayakkam Enna" Yamini character for putting up with a 'psycho'. Despite Karthik's flaws, Yamini loves him because of his unique character and lack of pretension and believes that some day he will reform himself. She is not powerless like critics say, it is her choice that she likes him the way he is & wants to change him.
I believe that’s the best explanation because she chooses this life, despite having many ways to ditch Karthik. She believes that someday Karthik is a genius and he will achieve success after all the adversities they have gone through. In the end, it very well paid off and I think it was one of the best characters written in Tamil cinema.
Agree! She is a strong character, shown repeatedly. Even when she refuses financial aid for the surgery. She has taken her choice and she sticks to it.
I remember this film for the standing Applause viewers given in Delhi theatre.. It's a good film. Didn't go well with commercial audiences. But, it's best of it's kind. 🙏
This movie has such a special place in my heart.....Thank you for this unexpected gift FC team.....Selva Sir seems to have loosened up quite a bit compared to his earlier interviews which is gud for people like me since this seems more like a therapy session rather than a plain old movie conversation.....Me being in a tough spot both in my personal and professional life that it brought tears to my eyes when he explained about how the universe fights for you if you have struggled enough for ur goals......This movie is for the ages and in my opinion on of the most positive movies from Selva sir..... ❤️❤️❤️
Mayakkam enna - most fav movie of lifetime, which gives lot of hope, positivity, inspiration❤😍. Bgm, music also top notch. This interview superb . Genious selvaraghavan sir👏😍
Divya not letting go of Vinoth to die despite the despicable things he did - He may not be her 'lover', but he certainly has her 'love' (Kaadhal Konden) Kokki Kumar measuring the steps n killing the guy in two massive punches - Survival of the fittest (Pudhupettai) That leaf descending from the heavens slowly n finally ending up on karthik's face - those are the moments u live for in life (Mayakkam Enna) (Karthik begging his role model to tell the world that the photos were taken by him.. 'Saar.. help pannunga Saar.. naa edutha photo nu sollunga saar' ) Anitha slapping Kathir in Men's restroom to ensure he takes it seriously n gets the job - Her making a man out of a boy (7/G Rainbow Colony) The chola king realising who the true saviour is and his people experiencing rain for the first time in their lives - Redemption for an entire glorious clan (Ayirathil Oruvan) No matter what the box office records say.. I'm glad I lived to see the above moments of Selva magic in theatres. No other director has influenced me the way Selva's films have and I guess I can speak for majority from my generation. Selvaraghavan is ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for doing this Baddy! We can assume few things of the film but those coming from the creator hits you differently. The film is really an illusion - ❤️❤️❤️ from Telugu States
Such a beautiful interview about this beautiful movie, especially loved the last part. Thanks to Baddy and film companion for making this happen because ignoring the fact that the movie was released about a decade ago, they still wanted to appreciate this film for what it is, cause it is quite hard to find people talking or appreciating older films which were not talked about during that time. Selvaraghavan - A true Genius(period)
Best ever interview,I never seen before ❣️,way you ask the question and way he answer to the question, just amazing to watch🤩,good learning experience 🙌
I should type something before I start to see this video. I was in 7th grade when Mayakkam Enna was released. I understood the deep meaning of passion and dedication from this film at a very young age. But my friends at that time used to make fun of this film and they also made fun of me for liking this epic picture. Guess what! Today, the same people (my friends) are celebrating this movie. At times they keep stories and statuses about how nice this film is. I reply "I did tell you!"
Wish Selva had spoken in Tamil … would have been the best discussion. He would have been able to express and explain himself better … wonder why English 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
It would be very interesting to get a deep focus on Kaadhal Kondein. I remember seeing that movie and feeling my heart stop during the orphanage scenes involving the kids. Really enjoy Selvaraghavan's creative vision while I understand he mostly depicts toxic relationships on screen. The way Yaamini stays with Karthik is very realistic. Empathetic women are attracted to damaged men as they believe they can fix them . If you have a friend or family member in a toxic relationship .. try convincing them to leave that person. They will give you a million reasons such as their partner is amazing during normal times etc. I have also volunteered in a domestic abuse shelter .. my director told me not to be surprised when they went back to their partners. She said I should just focus on providing them resources and a safe space for the time they spent with us.
Mayakam enna looks more like "a beautiful mind" mind movie. A lot in common. Unfortunately I watched it back to back and couldn't enjoyed much. But certainly loved selva's typical signatures all over.
52:30 I believe Yamini hasn’t slept with Sundar. She slept in a side which is too clean and tidy, whereas sundar’s side of the bed is messed up. Dhanush ofcourse looks into it, judges and opines on that idea, makes up his mind that he doesn’t care. But I believe what he understands is that Sundar hasn’t slept with Yamini.
Sir I wish to see if it is possible for you doing deep focus on "Ayirathil Oruvan" as well. Since there so many hidden factors and thesis in it. I would love know how he come to the idea of doing a story based on chola dynasty.
What if Selva takes on the final phone call from Karthik to Yamini as GVM's KARTHICK DIAL SEITHA EN. If they spoke a single word what it would be? MERCURIAL is my answer reply this if it's interesting with your word
Hi Baradwaj, how come you thought of reviewing this movie now after so many years....I am sure many people could connect to this movie, because many people have something very similar to this in each of our lives.....but you know selvaraghan is superb......
Wonderful one... but one question I thought that would be more efficient to be decoded... is the scene were karthik character tells Yamini that he had got a offer for a wild life shoot at that shot yamini character wakes up from bed and she will be pregnant... and at the climax when karthik calls yamini and she refuses to talk to her and one of the frnd says "kolandha mattum pethupalam aana pesa maatalam"... after watching that two scenes I was totally into the film that this is karthik and yamini.... I was expecting that stuff.... but anyhow selva sir is a genius....
Yamini actually didn't had intercourse with Sundar. I think selva doesn't grasp what he said, which has been the case in several occassions, even in his previous interviews with him. If that was a truth then the character and the motive makes no sense, as in it deviates from the context it established.
someone watching this video anyone has the full uncut version of the mayakkam enna movie.2 hr 34 min i have but it is just 2hr 25 min, and it is also of bad quality, the one in sunnxt is a bullshit, Hope i jet some help from anyone to watch this 2hr 34min version of it
Dhanush lits up a cig and yamini walks back and forth in front of him in a pub, and the main soundtrack starts. It is actually my favourite shot in the movie, it's there in the uncut version. I never saw it after the movie was sold to OTT. I feel you.
I don't know if it's only me ..the pattern in most of the Selva's movies is the male character is mostly flawed ( kadhal konden, 7G , Aairathil oruvan , irandam ulagam , pudhupettai or mayakkam Enna) n less confident , insecure n has so much of angst to do something but living a loser life as he's oppressed ..and it's the Female lead who boosts him ..make him a hero ..or fixes this issues in him. They are mostly confident, sure about what they are doing n the real hero of the movie who makes the story interesting 🤔. Like the trigger or catalyst for the male character's success n in the end doesn't get the required credit. Not sure it's a coincidence or it's just a perspective 🧐.
"written and directed by Selvaraghavan" comes when Dhanush says "ithu ennoda vazhka"
So obviously Karthik is Selvaraghavan !!!!
Idhu engaloda vaazhkkai (He is mentioning all of us)
Nice catch!!

What a movie!!A pure master class of filmmaking!!I believe it is one of the most inspirational movie in South cinema!

7.7/10
It is so difficult to write a character like YAMINI 🖤🖤🖤
I remember this film for the standing Applause viewers given in Delhi theatre.. It's a good film. Didn't go well with commercial audiences. But, it's best of it's kind. 🙏
Iraivi has Selvaraghavan touches right, especially the male characters.

It's surprising there were no discussion about the scene where Yamini cleans the blood stains. It was so raw
Mayakkam enna is one of the best made films ever....
I saw the movie yesterday. Just for this interview. Selva SELVA DHA!
