On a thematic review, Aster, Jordan Peele are exploring the same path in their own ways. They are breaking the existing patterns, rhythms, and styles of the horror genre and bringing in nuances to the thematic exploration of the movies. They are not your old school horror stuff but have a much more complicated and multi layered narrative structure. That way all three - Ari, Jordan, Rahul - belong to the same league.

I don’t know about that , but whenever i see his films all i can see are from what films he has taken references from , Bhoothakalam was something new for malayalam audiences for sure but it was like watching “the babadook through the eyes of hereditary’s dop. Bramayugam is another thematic ripoff of “the lighthouse” set in kerala with an extra character it was sort of evident in the trailer itself.
But anyway he is still an echo hasn’t found his artistic voice yet , he is in the right path of finding it.

I notice the sensibilities and approach to cinema is also different. Also the most important thing is cinema has to evolve and new filmmakers need more chances. My God, I'm now a fulltime fan of Rahul Sadasivan and if he continues in this vein, I'll watch every creation of his. He is a really fine filmmaker and watching 'Bramayugam' cemented this - the sensibility one needs to have to direct a serious horror movie - check, the knowledge to weave a beautiful movie with horror elements from everyday situations - check, the ability to create believable characters that don't do stupid stuff just to advance the plot - check, a nice way of balancing the supernatural and the material world to keep the audience hooked - check, having a healthy mix of perfectly legit jumpscare moments and those creepy subtextual moments to create dread in the viewer - check, having a very refined sense of music and cinematography to create that feeling of dread and hopelessness that's so crucial in a horror movie - check. He is a full package that should be talked about more.
Now this is a director to celebrate and watch out for who has given Indian horror worth celebrating about after Ram Gopal Verma. Being a horror film addict, I was absolutely ashamed and used to despair of Indian horror movies compared to Korean, Japanese, Spanish, and English movies, but we now have someone that can take Indian horror to a global level, and even if not that, at least we have someone who doesn't reduce horror to horror-comedy and showing ridiculous ghost faces and flying chairs and beds because of a lack of ability. I don't understand why there are so many low IQ morons celebrating the absolutely mediocre lokesh kanagarak (stupidly called loki, athennada loki? loka thana irukkanum?) when we have a person of this ability who can create such a beautiful piece of art in a genre that is really one of the hardest in filmmaking along with comedy.
Thanks for this interview - we do have a budding Indian Flanagan taking shape and I can't wait for his next horror movie.

I really loved the blocking techniques too, the intro of mammootty was a perfectly made scene blocking wise which actually explained the whole story the cook in one side mammootty walking with the camera placed behind him as if he is swallowing devan, then eventually the satan takes devan's body and the room closing down scene towards the end was brilliant as it kinda made the character suffocate (claustrophobia kinda thing) as the character has already been confined in a definite space.. and many many more, tbh this movie is just pure cinema, a masterclass.

45:55 rather than the 'anklet barrier stuff', I would like to believe that as the cook is in the 'blood line', he chants mantras as a barrier from chaathan's snooping power. That's why he's reluctant to drink.
Part where Potti asks thevan about the conversations with cook (shows chaathan is confused over cook) and then leads to a clash between thevan & cook shows the cunningness of chaathan to crack facts about cook.
    Hah...lots of interpretations !

Thats why he didnt show the explanation in the movie...its up for interpretation...the audience can come to that conclusion...I think its better that way...not everything needs to be perfectly explained...this is more fun...

Brahmayugam as an intellectual film, shows the relationship in India between the "all powerful" brahmin who controls everything related to his place, the nair and dalit who fight each other to impress the brahmin, The brahmins with all his powers, does nt do anything to improve the quality of life of the others, since they may otherwise run away. Purely caste film

Its a layered movie, with a brilliant craftsmanship and sound design was top notch...Movie interleaves the concept of a folklore and how power and freedom conquer everything.. each shot was symbolic of the concept...
If you expect it to be commercial, mass entertaining movie, may be it can be boring for those kind. If you really are interested in story telling, appreciates real crux of art, critically view the interlayer of the film, you gonna appreciate it..there is lot of difference between just a movie and a masterpiece.

Blown away by bramayugam's making but honestly I felt bhootakaalam had more scary moments. Nevertheless have become a fan of Rahul sadasivan !!
However I still have a few lingering questions about a few things in bramayugam that I didn't quite get.
    1. If the chathan has the ability to read through people, why was the cook never identified as a tantric? If it was able to kill everyone and imprison kodumon potti, it would have been able to recognize sorcerers right?
    2. Why did the chathan still remain in the disguise of kodumon potti? Why didn't it get into thevan's body as soon as he entered the house and the real kodumon potti died ?

@galattaplus - You should consider asking any of the industry guys as to "why isn't there a formal, organized setup to produce movies?" unlike other business, where there are VCs for start ups, constuction companies for buildings etc there isnt a single way that makes it easy or approachable for new comers to make films or atleast be heard. The only way you can make it happen is through contacts and not everyone is fortunate to make connections.

Still why talents from the southern part of India are ignored in the national level.. It is a common knowlwdge that mollywood is far above in quality and crispiness in story telling and character presentation as compared to bollywood ot any otr films. In reality, mollywood presents word class talents and films which goes unnoticed or ignored
