I remember people bought meal and flour in 25 pound sacks , the sacks were beautiful with flowers and different things printed on them. So my Mom had a singer sewing machine and she would save the sacks until there was enough for her to make me a dress. The meal and flour was stored in what we called a meal and flour chest. It was just a box with legs and was divided in the middle. Painted white. I love to hear you read the stories, you are very good at it, God bless , and keep the faith.
Tipper, you and your family are like a breath of fresh air. We know that we can come to your channel and get away for a while. All is peaceful with the world and all is right. Thank you for allowing us to become part of your family.
almost halfway through watching and listening to your video, the sounds of summer caught me the most, the locusts (katydids), the bees buzzing, crickets. Makes you appreciate the season that you're NOT IN...and look forward to them. homegrown veggies, warm rain, thunderstorms. But on the flipside with winter, the magic it can behold too! No mowing of grass, outside work, maybe a snow? (good one please, not a skiff!) and just feeling cozy and thankful that you have a warm house and many other blessings. Pray for those who dont. As always thank you for your wonderful videos and sharing them and your family with all of us. We are blessed to live here in Appalachia! Sherry
I’ve tried many recipes that I’d forgotten about. I lived in NC for 20 years & now I’m thinking it’s time to move back!! Thanks for sharing all the great traditions!!
I remember! Thanks for sharing. I pray I am able to take care of my small garden spots. I am still in recovery from second ovarian cancer surgery. God bless us all.
Me too! I have been making biscuits, cornbread, fried potatoes, cookies, carrot cake and cheesecake. I gained some weight, but I enjoyed every bite! Just started going back to the gym last week.
Thankyou all so very much for your efforts last year and for allowing us to join the family in many things. All the very best wishes to you all for 2023.
I like that song, "If today was the day." Tipper, how and when did you learn to play the guitar 🎸? I've always wanted to be able to play an instrument, but never wanted to enough, to practice until I could learn. I do love to sing. I guess that's my only talent to do with music.
Turnips raw, stewed, mashed, mixed with potatoes are the best. Mix in radishes with them. All so good. Those oatmeal prizes are collectors items today. Your Zinnias are the best. Those wonderful woods and all the secrets they hold. What a year. The sound of the creek stirs me deeply. The joyful music ❤ Thanks for another winner.❤
How beautiful to see the passing of a year and all its seasons. Majestic and calming, the cycle of food and garden and family and music, the babbling brook and birdsong and singing insects. Thank you for sharing this- I feel grateful to be able to watch it and it moved my soul.🌱🌻🍁❄
Tipper, I adore your videos, I am going blind, just starting my journey on TH-cam documenting the progress. I LOVE watching your videos because YOU understand the beauty in things. Not many people do, and they take it for granted. As someone who won't be able to appreciate those things for long, I thank you for showing and sharing. Greetings from South Carolina! ❤
I'm just now getting back home and settled in to catch up on a couple of weeks worth of your videos. Yes ma'am I remember the plastic "glasses" in Crystal Oatmeal very well. They had all sizes and colors. I believe they even had a small pitcher or something like that. My granny had scads of them. My PA and granny ate a bowl of that oatmeal, fresh eggs, cat head biscuits and either sausage or sawmill gravy every morning of their lives except the last two or three when in the nursing home. My Pa also saucered his coffee. They drew their water from a hand dug well right outside the back door and kept a bucket with a dipper for drinking on a table in the kitchen next to a wash pan. My grandpa's great-great-great grandpa and his two brothers came together from England to North Carolina. One stayed there. The other two came west. One stayed here in Tennessee and the 3rd brother went to California. Thanks for this video. I really enjoyed it.
Amazing how much different everything looks from Summer to Winter. In Summer everything is so green and the woods look like a jungle. Then in Winter the same scene looks so barren and different. You really notice the difference watching a video like this that has been filmed over months.
I love that creek, it would be the ideal place to play on a hot summer day. Tipper, ur ancestors would be so proud of the way u & ur family have so gently tamed that forest that they discovered so long ago. U make us all want to move in with u.
I remember the oatmeal glasses. I remember both the plastic glasses and the glasses You was talking about the creek, I lived in front of creek when I was growing up and I use to go to the creek and pray (my dad was a minister. I would pitch rocks in the creek it was 1of my favorite places to go.
Tipper, This video was wonderful you and your family live the good country way with big garden ,good food homemade jellies , garden food and looked like some good deer meat and eggs from the hens you have . You haves lots of green beans and canned garden veg.I like the beautiful music 🎶. I hope to see more wonderful videos in the coming year!!😊
I’m up at 4am and my mind is soothed watching this beautiful video Tipper! I can take on the day now! It’s 30ish, frosty here in Cleveland, the sun yesterday melted the beautiful blanket of snow we had Monday😊 Have a blessed day❤~Kathy
I know I commented earlier . But I just wanted to add that I really enjoyed this ! Watching it again. Loved everything . Love the beauty of your area throughout the year . Love the food , the music , love the vegetable garden, the flowers , just everything! Thank you for showing us a glimpse into your life in the beautiful mountains you call home . Appreciate y'all always ,and I look forward to another great year of celebrating Appalachia. God bless y'all always...🙏❤
I waited until I had some uninterrupted time to "dig into" this delicious treat of a retrospective on the life of my favorite North Carolina family. I remembered watching many of the clips the first time around, but found myself smiling as I recalled them with familiarity. Everyone of your subscribers is the better thanks to your charming example of family life and simple pleasures.
Love being included in your lives because it reminds me of my past family farm on Vashon island. Beautiful life beautiful family bless you for including us ❤️
So beautiful. Your garden area is amazing. I live on a little 1/3 acre in the suburbs. We have the back half of our backyard fenced off as a garden area. The squirrels ate ALL of my raspberries before I could and the birds ate the blackberries and the sunflower seeds. From now on, I have them netted which I don't like, because I worry about birds getting trapped in it. I don't know how you keep your garden so safe. :) Your videos make me happy.
This video is so beautiful. Loved the sound of the creek and the rain.. Everything is so green, absolutely stunning property. Enjoy your videos so much. Many blessings in 2023.
Absolutely love this video. Brought me to tears remembering family summers in Kentucky, my grandparents lived there. We would stay all summer long. (We live on SE NC coast) I get to visit once every few years now. I catch myself still having the awesome mountain verbiage.. lol I miss those family summers. Great video, beautiful place, wonderful family. You are blessed.
I loved this video. Especially all the outside parts. You were talking about the rock where you would go to get a cold drink from the creek and it made me think of my younger life. We lived out in an area that was gravel and still not very developed. You could walk or drive on both ways on the gravel roads and point out my dad's brothers place, his two sisters places with their husbands. There were really no fences or line divides. I guess everyone knew where their property lines went to. It all started with my grandparents and we were lucky enough to live next door to them. It was so much fun. We could walk through the fields and go to our cousins house to play, play in their barns, go fishing in their ponds, and ride their horses. The adults had a giant garden together along with grape vines and apple and pear orchards. You should take us on a tour of how close you live to granny and to your brothers without giving away any identifying information. Just since I've gotten married in the last 30 years are the road all paved now. People have died and then others have moved out, and some of the old home places are empty. It's kind of sad because what once belonged in our family for several miles has all changed around. There are still a few, but very few and I will always miss those times. Thanks for reminding me. Sorry I overshared.
Can I come live with y'all 😛I just love your family and the beautiful music, singing , food and love! You are such a special family. Hope y'all have as wonderful new year as you are!😘👍👏
I cannot tell you which part stands out more. I always love music, but I also love the porch sitting. The stories I love too as it always brings back such treasured memories. The creek, the walk in the woods, the garden...it is so hard to choose so I am not. But the breakfasts being my favorite meal always makes me hungry. Enjoyed all the things remembering 2022 so much. From beautiful music, to pretty flowers, a delicious harden, sounds of the creek and more. Thanks for a lookback at all the things. 🌺🌶️🍉🍇
Praise God for his abundant blessings that flow toward us through out the accumulated days of a year , and a life time . Thank you dear Tipper for being a part of those blessings , and family . 🌹
Tipper, you just don't know how much I enjoyed watching this. It was like going back home to Kentucky and seeing all the beautiful hills and mountains and visiting kin folk. You have the prettiest garden and beautiful flowers. But I also know it's a lot of hard work. Thank you for sharing this with us. Your shows have such familiar content to them for me, I love it and it brings good tears to my eyes at times. Take care.
This was so relaxing. Of course, I was watching you do all the work. But everything was so beautiful. You are blessed and you are blessing us with it all. Thank you. ❤
I could eat that meal 3 times a day hahaha. Have a blessed day Pressley/Wilson family. We thank the Lord for meeting y'all. I'm disabled and your channels really make my day. I love history & my ancestors come from Ireland & Kentucky. Ann McGinty brought the first spinning wheel to Kentucky.
I just loved watching this video of a year in Appalachia. Brought back sweet memories of our life on our little piece of mountain land I'm so thankful to God for allowing me to experience this kind of life. Thank you for doing these for all to see.
We were small town city folk but had farming relatives and friends. Course. Dad and my grand parents all had big gardens when I was growing up. Anyway many in town and most farms had an old cast iron hand pump that stood somewhere in the yard and most had an old tin cup hanging on it. Nobody ever said anything about sharing it! It was no big deal back then! 😁 Also beings Kansas has adequate wind, windmills were everywhere. Especially, western Kansas it was used for watering farm animals and gardens in early years. But nice cool windmill flow was wonderful and refreshing to drink right out of the pipe. AND many people had a cup hanging on this as well. 😁 Thank you for sharing these memories. God bless all here.
Thank y'all for sharing your lives so many different things y'all have there the pink flowers never seen them in my neck of the woods until 2yrs.ago ✌️❤️ to y'all
My wife has subscribed to your channel for a while now and I have watched from time to time but after hearing 32:59 I absolutely subscribed. What a very cool song and talented young lady singing. I found myself humming the song and singing along. Wonderful channel and you folks are such hard workers
i loved your video. I can see the love you two have for each other. My husband and I never celebrated Valentine's day either. He always said that if we treat each other with love, that every day was Valentine's day. He was right and he did.
I grew up on a gravel road a mile off the "main" gravel road, lol. There was a spring by the road about half way along. Dad would keep a dipper there to drink out of. As a child the dipper stayed there for years before someone stole it. Then he tried old tea cups, china and plastic ones. They would always eventually get taken. It ticked dad off, he was always thinking of others and liked that travelers could stop and get refreshed.
Hi Tipper, I was wondering if you have ever heard peonies called piney roses? In south east Kentucky that is what we called them. Thank you for sharing your life with all of us, so much of your life was like mine growing up. We also had a box of oranges for Christmas. Still today when I smell oranges I think of Christmas. Thank you,
As a little girl I remember hundreds of geese flying over migrating. Did you ever see them? I have talked to only one person that can recall seeing them. I was maybe 5or 6 but I knew then it was something special. Thanks for talking to me. Seems like you had a great childhood. I do enjoy reading about your life that I can relate to. I was born in 1958 and still kicking!!
Your story about the cup at the creek reminded me of what we used during construction of my parents cabin. We had a well with a manual pump and we would fill a metal pail quite tall, at least to a child, but we had what I would describe as a soup ladle with a long handle with a bend at the end so it could hang on the edge of the pail. I just remember how cold the water was and refreshing.
I think this is probably one of my favorite videos that you have done. The beginning, with all of you playing folk music and the waterfalls, I could watch that and listen to your music for hours. 🥰
I have used antique grain sacks to upholster furniture. Such a unique and beautiful look!
Love the sound of the creek.love it.
Yes my husband could eat turnips twice a day.
Such a beautiful place you live! You, Matt and the girls are salt of the earth. Good country folk. Thank you for letting us join you all.
Tipper, you and your family are like a breath of fresh air. We know that we can come to your channel and get away for a while. All is peaceful with the world and all is right. Thank you for allowing us to become part of your family.

Tipper your videos are so calming! You and your family are a salve for the times we are all going through.
Keep Paps tradition going😃 Hang a cup out by that creek in his memory. That would be sweet and maybe Grandkids will carry on the tradition 🥰
I’ve tried many recipes that I’d forgotten about. I lived in NC for 20 years & now I’m thinking it’s time to move back!! Thanks for sharing all the great traditions!!

Thank you,
I have heard piney roses, but no one in my family says it 😀 I love the phrase though
@@judyvinci9784 I don't but what an amazing thing to see 😀
Thanks for the 2022 journey
Thank for sharing your life ❤️
I love your video so much l watched it twice 😊
Your story about the cup at the creek reminded me of what we used during construction of my parents cabin. We had a well with a manual pump and we would fill a metal pail quite tall, at least to a child, but we had what I would describe as a soup ladle with a long handle with a bend at the end so it could hang on the edge of the pail. I just remember how cold the water was and refreshing.
Love that memory 😀
I think this is probably one of my favorite videos that you have done. The beginning, with all of you playing folk music and the waterfalls, I could watch that and listen to your music for hours. 🥰
So glad you enjoyed it 😀
Something new, I look forward to seeing!
Thank you Miss Cindy 😀
