Welcome to the game! I cannot wait for you to check out some more tracks. Especially from HoT and forwards that the music becomes really unique. Also you should check the Fear Not This Night 2018 cover from season 4. Very different feeling.

LOVE what Diemer did with Heart of Thorns! Path of Fire felt like an amazing homage to Nightfall while evolving it greatly. End of Dragons is just the new and old taken to 11. Perfect! ❤️❤️❤️

It starts in s1. Jeremy Soule was booted from the sound design team after Core for being a sex pest and a general diva. The Core game has one track and that's "Fear Not This Night," that stands out enough to be remembered.
"Battle on the Breachmaker," "Mordremoth's Theme," "Tahrir, the City of Gold," "Twin Largo, "Xera'sTheme" "The Cycle Ends," etc, you can instantly recognize these themes when you hear them. Chapelle nee. Raine and Diemer were big wins over Soule (Diemer was just a random sound engineer who got a chance to audition because Soule got fired), and Diemer's cover of "Fear Not This Night" is, in my opinion, far better than Jeremy Soule's as it sets a mood instead of just being sung.

@@nielsjensen4185Thank you for your comment. I was excited to learn that there's another version of the song. It's not listed on the major streaming sites, they took it off the tracklist for the soundtrack albums, apparently. Luckily, ANet have it uploaded on their official SoundCloud page. After all, I've got to say I much prefer the original version for a variety of reasons, but finding this "hidden" track was still a joy.

Your character becomes the commander of an international force to face the dragons (forces of nature incarnate that are around 2km head to tail). A speech before battle is VERY accurate.

Without giving to much about the story away in case you once decide to play it yourself: There is one "plant race", and the avatar of the mother tree is said to be singing this to her "children", encouraging them for the war against the antagonist of the base game and his army.
By the way, the base game is for free, so you could try it any time.

Been playing GW2 for about 9 years now. An absolutely incredible MMO that shattered some long standing traditions to show that there are different ways of doing the game, and Maclaine Deimer is an absolute beast of a composer too. I love this song so much. So much nostalgia and memory in this one piece of music. I also have a very personal connection to this song, as I actually did an instrumental cover of this song for a wedding reception for a family member. My first time really performing a solo music piece live, so even more memories tied to this song

A few people have mentioned the 2018 cover of this song from Season 4 and it's truly amazing how the same song can give such drastically different vibes with a different arrangement. I would love to see a compare/contrast of the two versions when you get to that point (or at any point if you don't plan on playing that far in the story). I'm glad you're enjoying Guild Wars 2, thank you for shining a bit of light on it. It's an underappreciated gem, I think!

This is one of the most iconic game pieces from the Guild Wars franchise. I remember when I first heard it I got so captivated by its mesmerising magical tone to it. The tone of this song reminds me of the Celtic-Irish era. Very magical, divine, something higher but very self reflectiorious. It always gives me stillnes and a sense of reflection 🙏

The music of Guild Wars, both 1 and 2, is phenomenal. Distinctive, memorable, and a damn good earworm for the last nearly 20 years. A lot of my life has been spent listening to to amazing musical talents that have worked the franchise in that time and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I remember hearing this theme without vocals for the 1st time. It can be found in the "Guild Wars 2 - Gamescom Trailer" for the 2011 show (the GW2 youtube channel). Alongside with the art it looked fantastic at the time. And still is a reminder of how full of potential the game appeared to be back then. Still a nice sound.

    Humans: Heritage of Humanity

Also absolutely loving the little gw2 scenery/art edits that happened whenever you sang some of the lines XD
Some other comments have requested for the 2018 version as well as other tracks so I hope you do take a look at them some time! The 2018 version is so fascinating when compared to this version as it's from a completely different part of the story and thus, has a completely different tone which lends an interesting alternate interpretation of it!
So glad to see this beloved gem of a game on your channel! Hope to see some more! :D

Whats interesting to me is how important the context of first hearing a song. The first time I heard this was the gamescom trailer years before the game itself was released. The paintings featured in that trailer teardropping into existance with the first few notes of the song (a more sombre instrumental rendition that focuses solely on the piano) show glimpses of a story promising to be both awe inspiring and introspective, reaching (for me) a far more intense emotion that the game itself is capable of portraying. Its now associated with when it's used ingame but to me it will always represent the wait leading up to being able to play the game- the delays, the interviews, the art releases and all the amazing music they had to show off. "Just hold on, it'll be an awesome game full of wonder and adventure. You can wait another few years..." This song singlehandedly kept me interested in this game long after I would have given up caring or become cynical.

The other vocal themes are all pretty great. Off top of my head is modremoth, kralkatorrik, and balthazar fight songs. The core racial themes, and stuff like "The Seraph" which is used in a boss fight.
Edit another great thing about this song is, it works as the post climax song after the big bad is dead, or as the anthem of hope, during the night before the final fight. In universe a song sung by the Pale Tree, and i imagine it was sung by Sylvari at Orr and other battlefields.

Ive been playing Guild Wars since about 2007, and this track is in my top 3 easily. Jeremy Soule had some amazing tracks in GW1 but the composers for GW2 really knock it out of the park

Hope you enjoy Guild Wars 2.
Also, I noticed someone else already mentioned this, but you should check out the other version of "Fear Not This Night".

Hey Marco, first off sorry how you’ve been getting harassed by different trolls repeatedly, really makes it difficult to get through life when being bombarded by negativity. (I’ve been there before and been recovering my mental health, so I know its like and it sucks, so you’re not alone mate.)
Second of all, I love the analysis that you’ve been bringing for so many incredible pieces of music, some I’ve never even heard about or considered! (Who knew Ace combat was astonishing with its music?!?! Please forgive my ignorance!!!😂)
So seeing you doing this really makes me appreciate everything even more.
You’re amazing mate and no matter what the trolls say, you keep going and don’t let them stop you.
All the love to you mate, From one Classical singer to another.
    Love from Scotland.

When you get a chance, please do Tarir, the Forgotten City and Sanctum Sprint. Both have a very explorative feel to them and honestly I could see them being used in a Zelda game for different reasons.

As a long time player who absolutely loves the world and the general atmosphere of the game, I might as well drop some hand-picked personal suggestions in case there's more reactions to Guild Wars 2 in the future, or if anyone else is interested in them. It's a 10+ year old game with lots of beautiful and adventurous tracks that are obviously best experienced in-game but many are amazing on their own too. _(more than enough good music for a listening marathon 😜)_
This list ended up unexpectedly long so I'll just highlight the personal top 10 with a little star for fun 🌟
_(Minor spoilers ahead in the descriptions)_
First expansion Heart of Thorns, which takes place inside a brutal jungle full of dangerous things but also some pretty sights and slivers of hope:
    1. *Attack on Tarir* - Map-wide event where players work together at saving a golden city inside the jungle
    2. 🌟 *Tarir, The Forgotten City* - Plays when you enter the pretty hope filled city
    3. 🌟 *Mordremoth* - Epic fight
    4. *Auric Wilds* - Pretty green and gold colored area of the jungle, soothing visuals but many lurking dangers
    5. *Rata Novus* - Under the jungle, amidst dangerous tunnels filled with aggressive bug-like creatures, there's a forgotten lost city to discover
    6. 🌟 *Heart of Thorns Main Theme* - Just imagine logging into the game and hearing this as you're setting foot into a brand new adventure with the expansion
Second expansion Path of Fire, which takes place in a massive desert with wild creatures and hostile factions:
    1. 🌟 *Army of the War God* - Plays during combat as you're running around fighting enemies within the sandy landscapes
    2. *Sands of Chaos* - Combat song as well
Third and latest expansion End of Dragons. which takes place in an asian-inspired continent full of beautiful sights. In this expansion I personally feel like the music is most fitting for the sights and atmosphere of the areas. Emotional but still keeping that feeling of adventure and discovery:
    1. 🌟 *End of Dragons* - Main theme of the expansion
    2. *The Empire of Dragons*
    3. 🌟 *Strangely Familiar Place*
    4. *Winds of Change*
    5. *Shadows of Seitung*
    6. *Tengu Village*
    7. 🌟 *The Cycle Ends* - This doesn't even need context, big
Other stuff from the core game and between expansions:
    1. *Main theme* - Well, the main theme and melody of the core game, most nostalgic for old players I'd say
    2. 🌟 *Battle on the Breachmaker* - Probably one of the most memorable villain themes for all players
    3. *Twisted Marionette battle parts 1 & 2*
    4. *The Silverwastes* - Area which is a prelude to Heart of Thorns
    5. *Sanctum Sprint* - Plays during a running race minigame and also during bigger scale mount races
    6. *Alpine Marches* - Cold norse mythology inspired area
    BONUS TRACK:
    1. 🌟 *Faren's Flier*
Also there was an amazing concert of Heart of Thorns music by a real orchestra, the video is titled: 🌟 *"Music from Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns with the Evergreen Philharmonic"*
Anyway, thanks for the fun reactions and analysis of so many game soundtracks. Hope you also enjoy exploring GW2 😄

The Music in Guild Wars 2 takes me to the Peak of my Emotions at all Times, the Atmosphere of the Game, which looks like an Oil Painting, this wonderful Community. GW2 is not a Game, it is a Work of Art!

When I relax to it, I cry with joy. That's no Joke

I'm not sure their will ever be another track that captures the same magicalness of Fear Not This Night, composed by none other than the video game music magician Jeremey Soule, famous for (insert OST here at this point honestly)

Fear Not This Night is sung from the perspective of the Pale Tree. Sylvari(one of the races) are born from the Pale Tree.

Definitely saw this floating around in the comments already - there's a dark, alternative version of "Fear Not This Night" by Maclaine Diemer, which sings the song in a much darker light - definitely recommend checking it out.
EDIT: I also recommend checking out "The Cycle Ends" from the End of Dragons expansion!

Saw the post and disappointed that people are being people, but do what you got to yeah?
Fear not this Night is amazing, and even has two other versions one being a slower, mainly Piano version (that I always mute my game and play during the level 60 story quest) and the newer one during Living World season 4 by the new composer for the game. And for context though this I think dips into that problem you've been having with comments, this song appears during late story beats but also all the time in The Grove, and it's pretty safe to assume this is being sung in that context by the Pale Tree's avatar, mother figure to all Sylvari.
For more recommendations there's also Seraph or Charr Triumph from the base game, or the Heart of Thorns Main Theme from the first expansion. Still gonna also recommend Code Vein music since last time.

Guild Wars 2 is amazing and Fear Not This Night is one of my favorite video game songs ever, but you should listen to Same Old Story from Cassette Beasts.
