It's sad that my countrymen know little to nothing about Ethiopia, or even Africa as a whole. While I would never want European history detracted or deemphasized, students at all levels and of all nations should absolutely have a basic grasp of African, Asian, Native American, and Austronesian history. The first step to respecting one another is to know one another, to have a basic understanding of each others' cultures and national stories.

The last african victory was the battle of Annual in 1921.It was even more impressive than Adwa, since 3000 Berbers defeated 20000 Spaniards.

That was a very impressive victory, and must be acknowledged as such. Not to take anything away from the Berbers’ victory but what makes the battle of Adwa different is that it ended the Italian Ethiopian war. There were several wars preceding the battle of Adwa just like there were important battles during WWII such as D Day or the Stalingrad. But the war ended with the battle of Berlin that ended the Nazi regime.
After the Adwa victory, Italy gave up and recognized Ethiopia’s sovereignty/independence followed by other European countries and USA. That’s what makes it a true lasting by. There were other victories like the Zulu warriors or the Mahidists achieved against the British but the latter came back to defeat them. That’s not the case with Ethiopia’s victory. It ended the war, with the Italian prime minister Crispy (no I’m not making up the name) forced to resign after about a week. It was a total victory.
