I don't think Egypt poses much regional threat or has influence and ambition for geopolitical dominance of anywhere and in anytime time soon save for doing some bare and desperate maneuvers at 11 hour for its existence as nation. It had long abandoned its indispensable traditional allies in the region like Sudan and Somalia for no apparent reason. Its leadership and policy ambitions are already bankrupted over decades since Anwar Sadat's era ideologically, politically and developmentally speaking . Instead it was content with status quo of being western prime puppet and prominent clientele, where it was strictly imposed on currupt military clique rulers in exchange for little crumbs from America to saveguard the interest of its little proxy Isreal in the region. The recent panicky and scrabble for policy and military footings in the region is when they realized that their very livelhood and dependency on the Nile waters faced serious danger in which their population could face starvation by millions anytime. It seems the whole point of Ethiopian dam construction was not about economic and developmental agendas for Ethiopia per se as its location is neither suited for irrigation purporse nor had shown any tangible economic value so far. It was meant to be used as geostrategic leverage tool by foreigners in the region and now it becomes harpinger for regional conflict and destabilization. Therefore, Egypt can't do much about anything now. It is too late and too little at this point.
