that right there my friend is called natural mechanics. It's s because you've played long enough and have a basic understanding of how your car moves in the air. Maybe get a friend and try some freestyle 1v1s where you take turns instead of playing some days. Freestyling can be as fun as playing the game sometimes especially if you're being a little competitive about it by playing horse
I'm interested what can you do, like even the more basic stuff. Cause I have no mechanics at all and I'm hard stuck in D1-D2 and Champ feels like a distant dream. I haven't even learn any kick offs. I can fly, but I don't really have any control. Like I need to be accurate on the ground first before I lift off. If I mess my timing or angle I can't adjust my car much in the air.
I hover around low c3 high c2, and I feel like I'm not mechanical at all for the rank lol (I cant even ceiling shot). Air dribbles are nice to know, and somewhat of a ground control will go a long way (flicking the ball instantly usually coz in diamond and champ ppl insta challenge). As for other 'mechanics' the main difference I've noticed between diamond and champ is people don't boom the ball away with every hit, try to follow-up on your own plays (more than 1 or 2 touches on the ball), and in general have a faster read speed on bounces of the ball (except hard corner bounces). If you get decently good at usual sidewall and backboard reads where you jump for the ball before the ball even hits the wall/backboard, you'll be in high D3/champ easily.@@Irevoltnow

I have been wanting a high level rocket league youtuber make a video on the "In-depth" mechanics of the game such as, the longer you hold the first jump the longer you have time to do the second jump and the threshold line between doing an awkward flip or a "musty". This is the type of knowledge that i find extremely helpful but youtubers just include these rarely by saying couple of words in a long video about something else. I have a feeling i am missing some mechanics of the game such as these. Thank you.
I'm a Diamond that's been a Champ in 2 seasons prior and I can do the following: Jump, boost, ~generally~ hit the ball an undetermined direction, and half flip. =)
As another plat I'll bet I've had so many teammates that do this when you mention rotating. They'll be like my wheels rotate when I go vroom for the ball and hit it as hard as I can without a care in the world of where it's going after lol.
I felt bad for the gold tryna ceiling musty because his setup was great for a ground pinch and he kept using that even when trying to set up the must which made no sense lmao

The word 'freestyle' itself points to having no bounds of any kind in your manor of performing (anything). In RL, with people attempting specific tricks, that word is already out of the question. Then you're just trying to copy paste an action. The question then is: Can you perform these specific tricks? Freestyle is an approach, 'freestylING' is the execution of that approach with the developed arsenal of abilities.
All that coaching for nothing 💀 reminds me of a friend of mine who told this guy to bind directional air roll, boost, and jump to the same button because he couldn’t figure out how to double jump…. Bro played like that for like a month and actually got pretty good at it sadly

Bro, I don't even know how to respond to people who say "I'm gold and I can flip reset, is that good?" I typically just tell people to work on ACTUAL mechanics that help you improve your gameplay (recoveries, rotations, solid hits on the ball). Plats can't even hit the ball consistently or recover properly, so what's the point of learning freestyle mechanics?

For air control do workshop maps like rings, if you can't access workshops, there's many freeplay drills that you can do to practice control of your car in the air. The order should be: workshop or training pack to learn the mechanic from a premade setup --> freeplay to learn the setup and practice consistency --> do it in game when you can do it in freeplay 9/10 times prefferably.

For Gold, that wasn't terrible for an air dribble attempt. Certainly much better control than I expected.
C1 and all I’ve got is basic air dribble. Can’t do anything mechy. I’ll get occasional reset but can’t really use it ball gets away from me
