Long ago, I swiped some ammonium chloride from my high school chemistry class. I brought it home and was thinking "what am I even going to do with this?". What I did was (stupidly) drop it into a cup of Clorox bleach. It foamed a bit but I noticed nothing else, so I covered the cup with my hand and started to go to the bathroom to flush it. I showed my older brother it and took my hand off the cup...big mistake. Suddenly the basement and our lungs were filled with a choking burning gas (chlorine). Fortunately I got the basement door and windows open and the cup flushed and my brother and I were fine. I do recall my mother yelling down the stairs about the smell XD

My 2 cents. I think he or 'your corporate stuff' you mentioned think his voice sounds too whimpy and not rough manly enough. You can see also when he talks he moves his chin to his chest and set up his shoulders a bit to look more manly. And since he is i guess Russian Estonian or Russian oriented at least, Russians have to be and represent as sturdy and roughnecks and those are not are bullied over it or denounced as gay whether they are or not. (Denounced as it is more or less seen as a crime there).

I completely understand the charm of his original narration as it is part of why I subscribed too, but please appreciate that he even went to the effort of uploading anything at all for English speakers.
The yellow powder is no mystery, just stoichiometrically balance the reaction for complete sulfur oxidation, and subsequent reaction of SO2 with the carbonate: 2KNO3 + K2CO3 + 2S --> N2 + CO2 + K2SO3 + K2SO4 Which would give ideal weight ratios of 50/34/16 The reason for the carbonate isn't just to react with the sulfur dioxide, but to lower the melting point of the nitrate closer to the autoignition temperature of sulfur. Alkali metal carbonates also form weird coordination complexes with elemental sulfur at elevated temperature, leading to a 3-component eutectic liquid of sulfur, nitrate, and carbonate. Fuel and oxidizer homogeneously mixed on a molecular level + heat = Boom
Also I would like to see you experiment with the stability of chlorates, as they are easily obtained, or made simply by boiling hypochlorite bleach. In particular, HClO3 is notoriously unstable, supposedly capable of detonating even in dilute aqueous solution. I've always wondered if that's true.

Fantastic video. Some years ago, one of our students caused a major lab explosion after she forgot to properly dispose a mixture of silver nitrate "lunar caustic" and aqueous ammonia. This happened some days after mixing when she returned to the lab. A slight touch of the beaker triggered the detonation.
Thank you for these warnings. I will definitely not have a great deal of fun mixing these things together to amaze and delight my nieces who are fascinated by science.
I soaked a ball of cotton in the basement of my parents' home when I was a teenager and sprinkled potassium permanganate on it. Then got distracted and left the room. It set fire to a countertop and my chemistry experimenting was banished to the garage.

Hi Thoisoi2, could you help with a chemistry related question. It is a question I have asked on another channel with relation to a video on rocket motors. Question: If I mix oxygen and hydrogen in to a perfect mix to react and place that gas in to a 1ft cubed sealed metal enclosure with a pressure gauge on it and then ignite the mixture, what would one expect to see on the pressure gauge in terms of measurements over a period of time from before the burn, throughout the burn and the final state of the enclosure? Many thanks if you help.
Urea can be sourced from a diesel additive they use on big trucks called Adblue. Ive checked, and its only urea and water, so probably the easiest and cheapest way to vet it unless you can find a chemisty wholesaler
Hello. When I was much younger, I tried mixing Tippex Thinner & Superglue Remover, once. The mixture didn't produce any dangerous reaction or seem to emit any poisonous fumes. However, it was exothermic and left a liquid which makes an excellent irritant. Please feel free to try it yourself, sometime.
