if I remember correctly, amuro fought gato at the battle of Solomon, I think, of course he would want payback against the man who helped the federation win the war.

No Char was not losing it as a pilot, He was a better pilot than Amuro to start in the OYW and he stayed that way. The only reason Char lost to Amuro was because Nu Gundam's capabilities as a machine were beyond that of the Sazabi, then add in the fact that between the two of them Amuro was the stronger New type.
That fact is more terrifying when you learn that the Nu Gundam was a rushed product, and despite that it was still superior to the Sazabi. Then you learn about the Hi-Nu Gundam and how much better it is to the Nu Gundam...
@Fuzion The funnels/reflector bits in Ep. 36 are operated during free fall, however, earth's gravity still applies that close to earth's surface. Even in upper atmosphere gravity will still be present. See USAF SR-71 Blackbird capabilities. During this time, both Ple and Ple II use funnel tech. The way in which they move hint toward the fact they operate under gravity. It's likely that they will work under gravity, however, they will likely require more propellant.

They were effectively still in space (albeit with more resistance and need for attitude adjustment) when they were doing that. They weren't operating under their complete weight at all. I was talking about on-foot. Any funnel used during that time would need to look like the most maneuverable uber mobile armor you've ever seen (LOADED with thrusters, looking ridiculous)
@DestinyOfFreedom In the anime, it only has vulcans. In Hajime Katoki's original design series "Harmony of Gundam" MS variations. It has an alternative weapons pack called the "Type MLRS" where it has several missile launchers on its back while the nuke bazooka is turned into a mega beam bazooka although I'm not sure if it's in Alpha since it's been so long since I last played it.
Both variants are in GBO2 for a long while now. And the original GP-02 is under the Raid MS class, using the beam bazooka whereas the MLRS is a Support class.

Your comparing char using the Hyaku Shiki while Emma's first suite we see her pilot was the Gundam Mk II of which the Gundam Mk II is the more powerful suit.
I know this is five years but... the MK II was not more powerful than the Hyaku Shiki. The Hyaku was made fully intent on being a high-spec unit, the MK II was simply a technology test platform...

@ryumancer actually in Musou 2, during his anti-funnel crusade, zechs was ganged up by char and amuro, during CCA, and managed to defend himself rather well. i highly dought he would be able to defeat them both by himself, but with domon and heero backing him up, the three of them probably would have won.
This game wouldn't be complete without Kou's annoying "GATOOOO!" cry, haha. Oh, and Amuro with Nu Gundam would own Gato and the GP-02. I can't be the only person yelling WTF! after seeing Gato dodge all those funnels....

The GP02A 's been shown to be able to maneuver pretty well from side-to-side, even outmaneuvering the Full Vernian in a Zero-G dogfight. Do I think it can dodge funnels well? Not really..! Bad(terrible) thruster positioning for that task, but it never needed to anyways. It needed to speed in, nuke, leave. And do you mean funnels in atmospheric free-fall?
and by beam resistant, i mean it takes nothing less than a strong mega partlcle cannon or beam saber to do any real damage. also, the ZC also takes a pilot's skills to their absolute limit and give the NTtier reflexes and thinking speed. and while the epyon has no long range weapons, its speed and the power of the weapons should even out that little problem. the epyon would probably be able to destroy the funnels easily, and outperform the sazabi, and fight nightingale to a standstill.
@omegashinobi in the final Gryps conflict Hamman does beat char but even throughout the series of Zeta Gundam Char shows that he's lost none of his skills as a pilot, or maybe you and I were watching different Zeta Gundams

@Jadefox32 the ZS is like a gradual self learning system of the RX78 combined with a future predicting system and can learn all the data it needs on any MS in a few seconds, so after a few hits, it would probably be able to predict every move char makes. and if char was a Super Ace Pilot like in the OYW, why was he struggling with MS that even a oldtype pilot like EMMA could handle with little difficulty? the only thing keepinng him at ace level, and even surviving getting gryps was his NTpowers

Chars abilities plus his use of funnels would hit Epyon from basically every angle, and as far as I'm aware when it comes to Newtypes their abilities ussually allow them to sense danger ahead of time giving them seemingly faster reflexes.

Not to mention, Gato is not a newtype and anyone piloting a MS equipped with psychommu would more than likely overpower Gato, especially the likes of Amuro Ray. On another note, if you have seen ZZ, you would know that funnels do work in the atmosphere. i.e. Qubeley Mk. II and Psycho Gundam Mk. II.

@omegashinobi The Zero system can not account for the extreme reflexes of a Newtype, your talking about a machines firing pattern not the pilots capabilities. If you ever look for the manga Eco Du Ciel a side story about a Newtype between the early 0080's and end's the time that the Titans start to attempt to take over. you see that Newtypes capabilities when recorded by machines come up as negative numbers in terms of reflexes. They see thing before they happen
