I think what people are missing, from my perspective at least, is that’s Smallville. I’d bet most people know that’s Martha Kent’s son. Clark doesn’t get mad, literally ever. I bet it was a huge shock to see the nerdy, optimistic, sunshine and rainbows dude turn into a badass out of nowhere.

good point. No wonder the people reacted the way they did like "all good brah". They know this isn't normal for him, and that someone must have done something very bad to get him to be like that. (they obviously knew cuz clark said it loud and clear for everyone)

One of the things I like and found interesting about this scene is that Clark doesn't use his name, he announces himself to the guy as "John Kent's father; Lois Lane's husband." His name didn't matter, just his relationship with the people that guy hurt, so that the man knew exactly what got him into that situation.

THIS is Superman. He gives the person a chance, even though he knows it probably won't be taken. He ends it as quickly and with as little violence as possible. Even in this circumstance where he's seething with a father and husband's rage, he shows mercy. Then, when he's done with doing what he had to do; which STILL ended in him giving a chance to someone who many would say didn't deserve it by letting him leave on his own volition; Clark apologizes to the patrons if he has ruined their night then apologizes sincerely to the daughter and through his actions assures her she's not at blame at all by letting her come check on his son. Then he and his wife, LOIS DAMN LANE, offer her kindness in a time of need and are glad to do so.

Yes! People wanting Superman to go around ruthlessly murdering everyone like Omniman and Homelander know nothing about him. Sure, he could break the continent with Emmett's spine if he wanted to, but his restraint is a core part of who he is. Take that away, like the Injustice story did, and the character you're left with is not Superman. I really like how this show lets Superman get angry (like with the Tag scene in season 1) while still being restrained.

Most incarnations of Jonathan Kent embodied the values that American culture espouses but rarely lives up to: honesty, humility, fairness, compassion, standing up for what's right. The thing I really love about this scene is how it’s all really in character for Clark. People in town know him as a nice, kinda goofy guy who was raised right by the Kents, and is always ready to help anyone who needs it.
Then they see a reasonable family man come in with controlled rage on his face, confronting a local jerk. Even then Clark stays polite, tries to get him to go outside, doesn’t escalate after a punch gets thrown- given their physiques and how Clark lives and works a farm, he could be reasonably assumed to handle this guy without any superpowers.
Then, and only then, does Clark let him up. After the town saw him get humiliated by who they know as s decent man, who even apologized for interrupting their night.
No wonder he told Lois Superman wasn’t going. Clark Kent handled this great just by being himself.

People who are genuinely tough don't bully or brag. They know they have nothing to prove, and nothing to fear. It's the quiet strength that comes from knowing who you are, and Tyler Hoechlin is very good at projecting that.

What I think is that even without his sun-given powers Clark still has the physique of a Kryptonian, which is designed for a heavier gravity planet. Which means even without the yellow sun radiation, Clark would still be stronger and tougher than regular humans.
I'd love to see an incident where Clark is temporarily bereaved of his solar power and is ganged up on by a crowd of ruffians...and still walks right through them.

I loved this scene. I loved it so much I had to rewind to watch it again and again a few times. This is peek Clark Kent. And u can tell Clark was holding back coz if he we went full strength, Emmett would have gone through the diner counter and would possibly be dead by the force slam. Tyler's Superman is such a great Superman. He reminds me to Henry Cavill at times.

One thing I’d like to point out, Superman lives in a world made of eggshells, glass paper machete and my self esteem. The amount of control he has to exert when just opening a door is already beyond human comprehension. Now imagine this, this man’s family was attacked. It’s hard to stay calm. What’s amazing is that A) the counter is still in one piece and B) Candace’s father is still walking. Superman has mastered control of his strength. To the point that he can smash meteors to pieces and at the same time, not break a man’s face.
