    Thank you very much. You were very professional and technical in a plain and direct way. You didn't mince words or beat around the bush with unnecessary opinions. I really needed a direct analysis of this board before switching from my current build. I will definitely be looking for you in the future for more assistance as needed, and also referring others.. Do have a very Blessed Day and a Happy New Year. Namaste.

    Absolutely amazing technical overview. Looks like an awesome motherboard, definitely on my short list.
    I was hunting through the English section of the manual for a block diagram or something to indicate lane utilization, figured MSI had just not bothered to include any information. They shouldn't have the block diagram hidden near the end of the manual like that, I think they could jazz it up a bit and put it in the overview section (on the product website) as one of the main promotional images since most manufacturers don't even bother with it.

    • @BuildOrBuy
      @BuildOrBuy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi narkfestmojo,
      Welcome! Yes, nice Motherboard. However, none of these Consumer Desktop Motherboards should cost over $500. Above that price approaches the price of a Workstation Motherboard with Workstation features! Agreed, those Block Diagrams are essential and should be more prominently displayed or featured. We have to know PCIe Lane count! Otherwise, obfuscation! As if Motherboard Manufacturer's want to hid that tidbit of relevant Information! ASUS is a good example! MSI currently has the best documentation on Motherboards. Appreciate Your Comments!

    One of the rare board I've seen that does 16x/0x/4x, that means you can use the 3rd slot without downgrading PCIe 1 to x8! USB4 doesnt hurt the board but that 60w front connector or maybe a Thunderbolt header would have been incredible.

      Hi Creative Now Sleep Later,
      MSI has avoided Thunderbolt 4 on the X670E Chipset. Look at the Block Diagram in the back of the PDF Manual on Page 525. PCI_E3 is through the Primary Chipset. Dedicated! PCI_E2 is Shared to CPU. HDMI and DisplayPort Out! See Back Panel Connectors, Page 24. Nice Layout. Clean and Simple.

    You have said many times that when you get a new part to put the camera on it. This happened to me last week in that I got a cooler, supposedly new, but the box was punctured and unsealed, plus it was missing parts. The vendor did good and replaced it right away and he said that perhaps at the Amazon warehouse somebody just grab something and shoveled it in the envelope. That's lesson in distribution centers that I'm going to remember.
    In one of my earlier lives which was working in retail they taught us that every merchandise return can equal 10 return customers. Some of the PC vendors have forgotten that and I had to write the COO's and CEOs of these companies to complain. I don't want any of these kids fired, I want them to learn!

    Thanks for the very informative video - PCIe lane distribution is so important! I've been trying to decide between this mobo and Asus' ROG Strix X670E-E (leaning more towards the carbon), but now that the first PCIe 5.0 m.2 drive has just released with a MASSIVE heatsink to go with it, I'm worried about clearance issues; not just on the two mobos I'm looking at, but the whole current generation. :(

    • @BuildOrBuy
      @BuildOrBuy  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi n1trodogg,
      Welcome! Appreciate Your Comments! Definitely a much overlooked Topic of great importance! Interesting options. Does Thunderbolt matter? If not, MSI! This is a good Chipset to work with. Gigabyte Aorus Gen5 10000 M.2 NVMe? That Heatsink looks a lot like the Acidalie We've Tested. One of Our Top 2 out of 16 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD Heatsinks Tested so far. All about Results. Very Good point. PCIe 5.0 is supposed to be short-lived since PCIe 6.0 is coming. And that's supposed to be with Us for a while. How soon? We're just now getting ready to see PCIe 5.0 M.2 NVMe PCIe Drives. Look how long that has taken and is still taking! The M.2 NVMe PCIe 5.0 Drives are still not optimized for Heat. We need better Designs of the Drives and Heatsinks. Instead of just bigger Heatsinks, We need efficiency! The faster We go, the hotter We can expect! Hope that helps!

    • @n1trodogg
      @n1trodogg ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BuildOrBuy Oh yes, I see now you have tested a number of m.2 heatsinks in the past. I will have to to give those videos a watch to see what configurations you tested, because even if those large heatsinks can be seated on the m.2 just above a PCIe 5.0 x16 populated with a graphics card, the gpu's just gonna be blasting hot air through/at the heatsink! (not accounting for custom liquid cooling, which I am staying away from right now)

      Hi Jay C,
      Welcome! I'm honored! Nice Build. Good Question. Curious choice. CPU PCIe Lanes or Chipset PCIe Lanes. Card requires PCIe X4 Slot. Curious. More efficient for Capture card. Less efficient for GPU. Run a Test and Compare. Check GPU Performance then Capture card Performance. That should do just fine in the 3rd Slot. Keep Us Posted on Your Results! Hi@@deeps.29,
      Good choice for now. 6 years, You've done well. At 7 Years, You're already feeling the need to Upgrade. We have Several Viewers coming out of a 10 Year slumber asking Questions about what's going on with the newer Computer Technologies and where are We going. What can We expect. Both Intel and AMD abandoned the HEDT and now based on the chatter, Intel has product for that market segment in the works! When? Historically, follow the Tradeshows like CES. My crystal ball forecasting would say 12 Months out and Your need is now! And once Intel releases product, AMD will follow close behind. However We have to think about Product cycles and Technology cycles. What We know to be true, anything yet announced will embrace PCIe 5.0 and DDR5. Which means, new Chipsets and new Motherboards! An exciting time to be Building a new Computer! Yes sometimes it seems We step back before moving forward such as You have Outlined. Ans so true with the HEDT! That HEDT Technology bridges the gap from Consumer Desktop Motherboard to Workstation! This Motherboard has a clean simple Design and Implementation of the Chipset. Enjoy Your new Build!

    Really appreciate the informational video, very underrated channel imo. I still dont fully understand how the lane allocation works. I'm looking at running a 4090 in the PCIE 1 slot with PCIE Gen 3/4 M.2 drives in all the M.2 slots on the board.
    Would that limit the bandwidth or do I have to leave M2_1 empty and only run 3 M.2s?
    I want to be able to add more storage in the future through the SATA ports but I dont want to accidentally limit the bandwidth.

    My #1 requirement is for the motherboard to not have issues right from the damn factory. I've now had two asus rog b650e-e motherboards with problems. The first one I eventually returned it for a refund because the bios wouldn't update properly even after tech support had me try numerous things. The second one has a raid message when booted after a bios update or a cmos reset on the ami screen that won't go away. I'm currently going back and forth with tech support right now but, I wouldn't be surprised if they tell me I need to send it to them. This shit has been going on months now and I'm beyond sick and tired of building and taking my pc apart over and over again because they build garbage.

Seems to be mixed as to which Motherboards are having difficulty. ASUS seems to be less affected but still some Motherboards are not stable with S3 Wake Up and AMD EXPO enabled. is it possible and advisable to place one m.2 for the OS and one for data on the third and fourth m.2 slots and leave the first two slots free to install one or two m.2 pcie 5 there later? Or should the OS m.2 always be placed in the first slot?
    As far as I understand correctly, there is no lanesharing on the board and as long as only one GPU is installed, it always gets x16 or is it reduced to x8 as soon as you install too many m.2?

PCIe 5.0 is the step, the bridge, an experiment to get us to PCIe 6.0. Albeit an expensive one! Never seen anything like this unless We bring up the leaking electrolyte issues We had several years back. That was a mess! Vendors literally scrubbed all data about that! But this now, We'll be surprised if there are no law suits over this. Fried CPUs. Burned Motherboards. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! Too early to release a Video on this yet. We need to wait for that. We see two timelines. One of products. The other of Technology. This current crop is a mess. We realized that with this Z790 Chipset which was neutered from the get go! To reiterate, the current Consumer Desktop Motherboards that should not cost over $500 are like the King has no clothes scenario. As soon as someone says so, this deck of cards will fall like dominoes! After the TRX40 came the WRX80. Neither of which is from Intel. Our next Video will be about DDR5. I know when Gil isn't talking about the newest motherboards,, then there simply ain't any new viable products worth talking about. Sadly I think I'm gonna have to make do with an ASUS z790 ProArtCreator board given the cost of any HEDT with thunderbolt. I apparently have misunderstood some of the info you have provided in you bifurcation videos,(as I am sure you will agree ). I read an article that explained that the PCIe 5x16 lane provided in the Z790 series which can only be split to 2x8x8 was designed(thanks Intel) more specifically for the GPU not the CPU,, if that can't be used for an additional drive in a DAW use it's an awful waste of technology .IF that drive is useable for DAW what is the best configuration,,,,, then (specifically) what M.2 slots are the best for audio production? Miss your in depth vids Gil! Hope you are well!

    • @BuildOrBuy
      @BuildOrBuy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi mark,
      Good observation! The Z790 is a neutered Chipset. More CPU Lanes but lost if Split. The Prioritization starts at Slots then Storage. That's the order of PCIe Resources. And the Split or Bifurcation is only X8X8 instead of X4X4X4X4. What a waste. Losing 8 Lanes. Think about this. What 3 things does PCIe 5.0 deliver?
      1. A PCIe 5.0 Slot
      2. M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD Drive
      3. Seperate but follows along, DDR5.
      The GPU is no longer Driving the Bus. And has not since PCIe 3.0. At that time, PCIe 3.0 ushered in M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD Drives! Remember the RED Accelerator? Maybe 8 years ago? The point? That Product was introduced to Accelerate Rendering. It was discontinued when GPUs were able to Render effectively thus the Red Accelerator was discontinued. And it was expensive! M.2 NVMe PCIe 5.0 SSD Drives are now finally being introduced. We Discuss them according to the Spec. Burst mode. Not actual Throughput. And DDR5 is a mess. Bad Memory Controllers on CPUs. No Bios Update can resolve that. Yes everything is going DDR5. Yes everything is pushing PCIe 5.0. Remember PCIe 5.0 was suppose to be short term. Why? PCIe 6.0 is suppose to be long term. Lots of bleeding edge bugs right now to be resolved before PCIe 6.0. And what does Intel offer? Over priced and underdelivered. We had high hopes forvthe W790. Suppose to be a Workstation Chipset. More like a HEDT. However, look at the price. A WRX80 is a better value. Working on a Video to Outline DDR5. Fascinating changes going on right now. What's happening now reminds me of when Intel had warehouses full of Pentium 60 / 66s. A Short lived mess. This too shall pass.
      BTW: Appears ASUS has removed their Bifurcation chart. Curious. More Obfuscation. And no Block Diagrams. That Speaks volumes.

      @mark-ze4en ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BuildOrBuy Hmm,,, I saw the latest on the T700 NVMe PPCIe 5 coming up,, sounds good at first but the video explained it's short comings.
      Essentially though, as I understand it,, the Memory controllers(ECC) must have parity through the 'bios and the memory stick' as you have pointed out previously. Correct me if I am wrong. While the Z790 'chipset' supplies 4 M.2 slots ( 3 @gen 4 and 1 @ gen three), they are "on die" devices with no "through system" error correction (as is all ram DDR 3-4 &5) are not in parity with the CPU(bios) and I might expect some instability there?.~ However , the 2 thunderbolt 4 ports are connected directly through the CPU as is the provided PCIe5 slot in the 2x8x8 bifurcation. I believe that slot is usable even without the Graphics card installed.
      I believe,,, ~ If that M.2 stick does not have memory control does it sink the entire ship? How stable is it? And, is there any single M.2 gen 4 storage device that does have ECC memory control to work in parity with i7-13700k? I think CRUCIAL has some !?
      And, what might I expect from the chipset storage devices as far as DAW usage goes? Is there a difference in the instability factors for GPU and CPU? A dropped frame in GPU is not as noticeable as in sequential audio rendering.
      If I may extend my questioning: when I decided to upgrade my audio PC I was interested in the Mac studio or Mac MINI M1 ( Now the MINI M2 pro). How does mac make all this happen ? They generally offer only 1 storage device( which may simplify the technical aspect of operation) and it's hard to tell what you're getting inside. But, their technology seems to work just fine. Is the Mac Integrated silicon chip have error correction throughout the system? I just don't like their business model or the cost of expansion ,,etc,etc.
      The WRX80 is awesome but really, at 5k for parts it is not what one would refer to as "a better deal" even if it does work. Throw in the Threadripper Pro and $$$$$$.
      To the extent to which the current Upper end boards like the Z790 are apparently built with not only planned obsolescence but known malfunction right out of the box how is it that legal civil suit is not brought about? It is hard to imagine that soooo many gamers and professionals would continue to build with these boards if they are so wack. Societal behavior is not always a very good yardstick by which to judge an industrial or other practice or circumstance but if the product is so unreliable why are we NOT hearing more? ~ $$$ talks,,,, and consumers are addictive users? Maybe ,,too much Philosophy. I just want a board that works,,, right?

    • @BuildOrBuy

      Hi@@mark-ze4en,
      ECC, another Fascinating Topic! We'll start with DDR5 RAM then progress further into ECC SSD Controllers. We need to keep those two seperate to minimize confusion.
      For now, the Memory Controller in a CPU talks to RAM. If a Bios has settings for Parity, that is ECC Support for ECC RAM.
      The Memory Controller on an SSD talks to the SSD or NVMe Memory. On Die, Yes but have not seen any documentation giving that specific definition but that's the end result. Yes. Well stated.
      The HEDT was a perfect step up between Consumer Desktop and Workstation. Right now, Audio Rendering is CPU. Eventually that too will change to a more efficient GPU Rendering. There's an audio app working that direction now.
      How does Apple do what they do? Proprietary. There was a time when Building a Mac was possible. Apple bought the company and killed the technology. Just like Adobe and Microsoft have done.
      On a PC, for Intel, source a Binned CPU which is tested for higher quality. Can't help but wonder what is the die yield and what is the failure rate. Proprietary knowledge. We're seeing a lot of obfuscation, possibly to lower expectations. Everyone wants the latest thinking it's the greatest. Not so.
      Keep it Simple and Make it Work! All about the music!

      The TRX40 HEDT was perfect! Yes, the WRX80 solves lots of problems. At a price. That's a longer term investment. Vendors want Users to buy less so We buy more often. That's the value proposition being offered.

    I am looking at this board for a new workstation PC and the bigest problem i have is i have 7 devices that needs SATA ports and the only MSI board i can find with 8 is the Godlike which is waaaay out of what i would like to spend, i would like to get around that by adding an x4 PCI-E HBA card with more SATA ports but i cant find any info thats says what happens if i add that HBA card to the bottom PCI-E slot does that slot cut off SATA ports? if so there is no point in getting a PCI-E HBA card and maybe an M.2 HBA card is better but then i need to remove the motherboard M.2 heatsinks otherwise i cant plug SATA cables into the M.2 HBA card so thats also a hassle

      Hi ReZel,
      Welcome! Excellent Question! PCI_E3 is through the Chipset, 4 PCIe Lanes Dedicated. Motherboard Block Diagram helps immensely! Adding 4 SATA Ports. OK. Be aware SATA directly on the Motherboard is mapped 1 Chipset PCIe Lane to each SATA Port. Therfore You'll have better Throughput than if using a SATA Add in card which may map 2 SATA Ports per PCIe Lane. With everything going M.2 NVMe, for what are You using so many SATA Drives simultaneously? Have You considered Hot Swap/ Hot Plug Bay Drives?

      @@BuildOrBuy Its all hard drives with video audio and pictures and i need it all for work i did try taking two drives out i was using less and putting it in my second PC but moving huge amounts of files between the PC was so slow that i dropped it and put them back, right now i have an X570 board with 8 SATA ports and i am just going to keep using that until it dies if i cant get a new board with 8 working ports or get a HBA card that works or maybe i am going to buy an x8 SAS card put it in the top slot and move the GPU to the second slot and live with it being x8

      @@BuildOrBuy I could bring the number of drives down to 6 if Seagate release those new 30 Tb HAMR drives they keep talking about, also i dont need full SATA III speed the fastest drives are up to 285 mb/s so even if the last two SATA ports on the motherboard are slower due to being on the chipset and the the HBA card also being slower due to running off the chipset it does not matter as long as i can run all 7 drives and they dont move too slow its fine and i also have a Delock PCI-E x1 gen 3 HBA card with 2 SATA ports on it that i have laying around and never used

    Guys, is anyone already using this motherboard? I'm looking for a reliable board that doesn't give me a headache, I see a lot of reviews with defects, so if anyone can tell me I'd appreciate it.

      Hello Thebossreserve,
      Good idea. Great question. Best solution would be to get it, build it. And immediately test. Stay within the 30 day return window. And retain all packaging just in case until relatively certain of stability. Three days should be sufficient for burn-in aka smoke test.

      Hi James Bowen,
      Welcome! Understand. This one is more reasonably priced than most other Motherboards using this X670E Chipset. Thanks for Watching!
