Power Rangers has totally lost this. It really sucks. Most of the lessons were martial arts inspired but now they are all social justice inspired. which makes them worthless
Well keep it in context, the show wasn't about martial arts primarily. SABAN had to constantly put disclaimers on the screen to show kids that violence is not what they are promoting and these segments were to show what martial arts were about. Remember this was the 90s, during the early 80s and much throughout the 90s martial arts were all the rage in the west, ancient Asian philosophies being passed down through small little nuggets of information through shows like this. Also it was mainly movies that had tons of martial arts and Kung Fu in them, this was a kids show on day time TV so they had to be extra careful with not offending parents. Power Rangers aka Zyurangers were mainly about power suits (power ups) and mechanoids, it was created by Bandai and Toei so their primary goal was to make toys and merchandise sales. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers or (Dinosaur Squadron Beast Ranger in Japan). It was a simple story of an evil witching wizard named Rita who was trying to conquer Earth and Earth's only defense to this extraterrestrial threat were the Power Rangers selected by the alien Zordon. The American teen drama was added in the western show and SABAN felt it was appropriate to constantly put these disclaimers on the screen and educate parents and their kids about marital arts and its self-defensive purposes. 1) martial arts is cool and attractive for kids 2) they had to convince the parents it was safe to watch 3) when you win the parents you win their wallets, thus the toy sales for Xmas and birthdays and all around being a good sport. Even though the action is cartoony at best, some of the moves they use are legit martial arts moves, especially the round house kicks. I think in later episodes they actually banned that from the screens if memory serves, to stop kids imitating the moves in real life.
When he says "martial arts were not developed to hurt others" he's speaking figuratively. Obviously if someone attacks you, then you have to inflict harm upon them to stop them harming you. The point is that they were developed for self-defence, not so you could go around hurting people for fun. Karate in particular was developed by people in Okinawa who were not permitted to own weapons so they had to develop their unarmed skills to fight off bandits.
Love the 90's martial arts, especially when it comes to power rangers' hands down.
Every martial arts film should have lessons like this
My favorite film series:
1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Always be a ranger
I wish the 1980s ninja turtles done the same thing as well rather than being a comedy show after the epic five part pilot.

Há meu boy magia
Its superior to power rangers 2017
Yeah that’s bullshit. Martial arts were started to hurt and kill people. The zen stuff came later. Read a book, power rangers.
It's a children show
