Gule Wanji ? (Which Dance ?) by Chris Shishimbi. Sung in Chichewa the language of the people of Malawi, the 'Warm Heart of Africa'. Earlier this year I had the good fortune to spend time with 'Shimbi and he asked me to upload this for him. It's an original composition of his and he sings and plays guitars, bass, keyboard and drum programming on this recording.The theme is apt as at this time of year the villages are stalked by the mythical figure of the Gule Wamkulu. The country is poor. The folklore music and dance are vibrant ! Shimbi was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and lives in the village of Maldeco near Mangochi .He has lived in Malawi for 20 years. He performs locally at Zitherapano with Mulangeni Sounds and has taught many musicians including members of Malawi's premier reggae band the Black Missionaries. He has played at the Lake of Stars festival.
