The wage negotiations between Volkswagen and IG Metall are on a knife-edge. After three rounds of negotiations without results, the union is increasing the pressure: for the first time in years, widespread warning strikes have taken place at ten VW plants. The key question: how can the planned savings of two billion euros be implemented without compulsory redundancies or plant closures? If no agreement is reached by summer 2024, there is a threat of a return to old regulations, which could cost VW up to two billion euros. The next negotiation date on December 9 is seen as a decisive milestone.
