How everything comes together with the final wash is incredible and a lesson: never give up on your painting before you added all your layers. You never know if it will turn out great in the end. A lot of time a final glaze can reveal or fix values or tones.
I love night scenes, and low-keyed scenes, dark, and twilight mysterious scenes but also love watercolor, so I def need to try this. You showed me the path!
Thank you for sharing the principles, processes, and practices of making night paintings. I feel now that I don’t need to “reinvent the wheel” but can begin “rolling down” a new dark street that you’ve “illuminated” on my watercolor journey. Aloha from Honolulu.
I was really struggling with illumination and how to paint it with watercolors. I actually wound up asking around on Reddit, and someone linked your video. I found it incredibly informative and helped bridge the knowledge gap I was looking for.
So far, i have never painted a night scene, for fear of failure. But, thanks to your tutorial this time i Will dare to try it. Thank so much Eric, this is very helpful.
So grateful for Eric’s careful instruction, warm demeanor, and clear way of demonstrating. As a watercolorist, I always need good teachers, and Eric is one of the best. Thank you, Eric.
Eric you did a wonderful demo of painting a night scene in watercolor. I found it to be almost miraculous how the numerous layers end up creating the images, mood, and lighting as observed in the photographs. Thank you for this lesson. I will try to do a small night scene but I think I need to watch the video a few more times. Your final painting was beautiful...it conveyed the kind of feeling I've had when going for a walk on a still winter's eve. So beautiful.
Eric, I love night pictures, but there are only a few tutorials available. That’s why it's great to have a tutorial like that. I would like to see more of it. Thank you. Volker
Well, I haven't watched the video yet but I'm sure it will rock. Just wondering how the new studio is working out? My guess is that it's rather heavenly...
Amazing to watch this magical transformation from a white paper to a nocturnal scene! So beautiful! Thank you, , Eric for sharing your knowledge with all of us. You are a great teacher!😍
Your brushwork is amazing. Thank you for sharing your talent and insight. I especially liked that you explained your brush change for the hard edges on the car and the ""fresh paint" for the darks.
great video again. Will take me a while to try nightscenes. I like it that you are very consistent in your teachings. I start to look at light, middle and dark forms when I take a walk. Thanks Eric.
Extremely useful...however I was planning to paint a cafeteria at night below my building...with glass doors and multiple lights indoors...is it good to do in oils or watercolours?

I love these videos! They have helped me improve so much, thanks!
Amazing, I will try nightscape in watercolor. Night painting is always demonstrated by acrylics

Amazing💗
Nice work eric , as always . 😍😍
Just the video I was waiting for. Most of my paintings have very dark colors.
Thank you..
Thank you:)
Extremely useful...however I was planning to paint a cafeteria at night below my building...with glass doors and multiple lights indoors...is it good to do in oils or watercolours?
In general I'll recommend do it with oil. I only have watercolor that's why I use it :)
Was waiting for this and it was a great video.
PS: just realized two minutes later you were painting a RDR2 screenshot xD
I’d like more dark scenes, like a sun set. Thank you!
What if there is no fire and no light? Like in a rural area, trees and hills? Every night when I walk my cat I look around at this and wonder.
there must still be a light source, even if it is moon light :) that'll be different but might still be paintable
