There were actually 5 of these ZZ reg 777’s that BA had. BA only operated A, B and C. They had GE90 engines but only rated at 75,000 lbs of thrust, where the VII reg ones had 90,000 lbs. So ZZA,B and C tended to operate Middle East routes, and the shorter Atlantic crossings such as New York, Newark and Boston.
@brianrjclarke Hi Brian - BA disposed of them in 2002. ZD went to Khalifa; Air Algerie; Varig and finally Republique Gabonaise. Stored since 2016. ZE started the same way but was broken up 2018.
@@HeathrowAircraftwe enjoyed working in the economy section of these aircraft because the rear galley was huge, however no one wanted to work in first class as it had 17 seats plus the flight deck to look after.
@AndreiTupolev - absolutely yes - if you take a look at my Concorde film from 1996 you’ll see the first aircraft is one of the G-ZZZs…th-cam.com/video/B9IWoIiZYZ0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=BeyDM2b7YZAE8z3q
@ yes, and I have flown in several of the very first BA 777s ! At the time BA placed the order for their first thirty B777s many were surprised that they chose the GE90 engine, instead of one from Rolls. All their subsequent B777/200s did have Rolls engines, and the choice of GE for the first thirty may have been linked to the sale of the BA engine overhaul factory in Treforest South Wales, to GE ! A wonderful plane.
@anthonywarrener1881 Hi Anthony yes I was working for BA at that time and that’s exactly as I remember it - the sale of Treforest was very much linked with the decision to order GE powerplant. It certainly sent ripples across the airline!
@richardstreet7518 yes I’ve always had a soft spot for the BA 767s - loved that sound of their RR RB211s! I remember them being introduced into the airline just after I started working for BA - many years ago now 🤣

@victorgrasscourt3382 Hi Victor - yes I gather the cabin crews enjoyed working on these particular models as the galleys were extremely spacious.
What happened to delta and echo?

@@psrpippy😂 love the inside story on these aircraft. Thanks for sharing the goss 👏
The ‘A’ market aeroplanes were also the nicest to hand fly as they had a lighter stick force software coding…….
Very interesting to learn
@mikethrower742 Hi Mike thanks for that - good to have additional intel like that from those “in the know”. All the best. Steve
Fantastic Hard Core Info MUCH Appreciated by us in the AvGeek Community!!
@AquitaineKing -👏👍👍
Surprising to think that these earliest ones operated alongside 747-100s

A truly magnificent aircraft.
@anthonywarrener1881 and a really solid reliable one too!

Flew this bird a couple of times to Newark.
@Bungle-UK. nice! 👌
She had 100k hours under her wings, job done, great aircraft.
@markotango54 yes - absolutely👍👏
After Euro 1996 (football) she was seen painted as GAZZZA (reg) as tribute Paul (Gazza) Gascoigne. 😊
@belugast - awesome -I’d forgotten that - good call!👏
Went on all 5 on my regular UAE run... premium heavy with 70 club cradle seats originally... A bit range limited (?)
@richardstreet7518 awesome. I’m a tad jealous I have to say! Great to have flown on all 5 including the long gone ZD and ZE!
@HeathrowAircraft in some ways I preferred the 767 due to the seat congig.. going back a bit now - the regular 767 (G) went to Qantas

What a great plane...
@jorgemoll5994 I remember looking on board this before it started in service with BA. Showing my age 🤣
@@HeathrowAircraft Still a young man!! Best regards!!
@jorgemoll5994 ah thank you! 🥰
Flown her. First one I flew was ZC.
@466047 Brilliant! Here’s a reminder of ZC for you! th-cam.com/video/TC08jBipJL4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Szr61uLeh0Y5rBIQ
Great Video
@vc10aviation 👍👍✈️ thanks a lot!
The 777 is my fav plane😢
@AbdullahNajib-b9z and super reliable too - when you think this particular one first flew in 1995!!
Poor old girl. A fate which awaits us all.
@The_Plastic_Ape - yes very true!
Yeah, is it normal to feel sad? It’s like losing an elderly relative.
@@stacked7476yes absolutely normal. That’s why I made the 200+ mile return journey to say “goodbye” to it.
Why does British Airways love sending planes that can be used for scrap?
Because they buy most if not all their fleet instead of leasing.
@arthurgabriel5709 yes 2020 saw a lot of aircraft going for scrap from BA. Sad…
Always sad to see, but big airlines are quite ruthless with ageing aircraft especially if less fuel guzzlers are available to buy.
@edwardtreadwell3859 yes I think you’re right sadly ….
Not sure what the second-hand market is like for a 28 year old, non-extended range 777 ...
💔😪
😢✈️🥺
@@HeathrowAircraft ❤️
Best laid to rest. Awful airline.
@SandraSlater-zx1ib 😢
