I know this comment is a bit late but I want to just tell you something: Not only do the divine grenades heal your character (Unless your Hector) they can also sooth the frenzied dead created by the commander.

Werner's perks are very divine driven so the M1 Carbine, Tommy gun & the M1911 pistol/ shotgun pistol are best suited for Werner also the divine blast is insanely useful. Most characters will do times 2 divine damage while Werner will do times 3 divine damage and when applying medpacks will go into the health overspill. I recommend you watch the Latent Gamer's Werner build video as he provides the best perks to use for the characters. Also with horde mode, you won't be able to access the ENTIRE map straight away so the more waves you kill the more you'll unlock. Most maps will unlock at waves 3 & 5 while others will unlock on wave 4.
