Nah, Reagan and Trump are the two best since. Eisenhower had a hell of a pedigree, but was naturally a war monger. JFK was overrated, but also didn't get a full shot, he had it stolen from him. LBJ COULD have been great with all his achievements, but he achieved most of what he did through slimeball tactics, deceit , and murder. Then of course his complete fumble of everything to do with Vietnam. His stock dropped pretty fast between 1964 and 1968.

There is nothing to not be nostalgic about when it comes to the Democratic Party of the 60s. There was no pandering. There were no unenthusiastic speeches. If you came up to hear your candidate speak, you wouldn’t be disappointed with what they had to say. RIP the left wing, 1959-2020

While I don't believe JFK was the political saint a lot of people make him out to be (although his handling of things like Civil Rights and the Cuban Missile Crisis were noteworthy) I do admire him for getting to this position in what was essentially an uphill battle, not only for the nomination but the Presidency. From what I understand the Democratic higher ups were a bit sceptical of him, the idea of a Catholic President was pretty taboo and Nixon was pretty popular at the time.

    • @CoolhandLukeSkywalkr

He caused the Cuban Missile Crisis. Fixing his own screwup isn't exactly brilliant.

@@CoolhandLukeSkywalkr You can argue his administration (very heavily) pushed the hostility between Cuba and the US. I'd agree actually. But the crisis as we know it was set off by Khrushchev.

Yeah, it's clear Johnson was upset with losing the nomination. Then taking orders from a guy who essentially worked under him in the Senate. It had to be a hard pill for Lyndon Johnson to swallow.
