    Scotty was great at the maintenance videos, but Doddy is even better IMO. The guy clearly knows his stuff, and he seems really natural on camera. Loving him as a new presenter so far.

    This is the first media video I have heard someone actually recommend retaining compound (i.e. Loctite 640), which works excellent for aluminum shells. This guy knows what he's talking about!

    A tip that might help when removing the cranks: you should loosen the bolts evenly, otherwise one gets loose and the other gets extremy tight, so better slowly each one a bit at a time.

    I was sceptical of press fit BB's til I got my Trek Stache with a press fit. Just replaced one after 2 years and probably around 5 to 6 thousand miles.
    I have to laugh when people say that threaded BB's are so much better. Well they creaked a shit load too! Headsets have used press fits for ever. And with threaded BB's you can get BB's to seize so bad that you can't remove them.

    What is not mentioned here is how the crank mates to the inner bearing surface in BB's of this type. This is a basic question beyond the scope of this video, but I would like to know what video if any answers it. In general it appears to me that the outer surce of the bearing is mated to the shell either by friction or by being screwed in....but no one clearly states how the inner surface of the bearings are mated to the crank and/or pedals.

    I have installed a new press fit BB from shimano (XTR level) into my alloy frame with the help of one of those dedicated press tools and used some amount of Lactite 648 retaining compound to stop it from moving and creaking. I rode my bike only two days later, so there were plenty of time for the retaining compound to dry. It didn't help, however. The bike is creakier than it was. It creaks when I pedal under load, but also when the bike is standing and I put pressure on it by leaning on it from above. And it does not matter if I lean onto the saddle or onto the top frame tube. I am now wondering, what if I bought an expensive metallic BB such as Token Ninja which threads together, spend about 100 euros and the BB would still creak. Looks like there is no panacea from those creaks at all. Thinking about selling the bike and building a new one myself with a threaded BB...

    Hey guys,
    I have a problem:
    I just bought a new xt chain, and the Dartmoor simple chain keeper,
    The problem is the chain keeper just tensions the chin downside, so at woody sections, the chain just pops at first teeth out of sprocket, so when I crank forwards, it pops just right out. The sprocket looks ok, at some teeth a bit sharp, cause of the slipping.
    Any suggestions to get more tension or without buying a new chain guide ?
    Thanks, Greetings from Germany!

      Buy some fat bike tire tubes and trim them to fit your frame, put some plastic shopping bags over your handles to cover shifters n stuff where water could get into cable housings

    • @carguy466
      @carguy466 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just buy a regular motorcycle cover, if the bikes are close enough, one could do but then you'd maybe have to cut holes and put some plastic bags to cover the handlebars

    • @RichieB636
      @RichieB636 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Car Guy I would never put a loose cover on anything at highway speed, it will destroy the surface underneath through a combination of road grit and constant flapping. Bicycle, motorcycle, it's the same thing, don't do it.

    • @carguy466
      @carguy466 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no idea how that flapping could damage it. Sure amybe with sand and other junk inside but these are easy ways to avoid that. Also it will just stick to it like your shirt to your chest when cycling.

    • @RichieB636
      @RichieB636 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the easiest way is not to do it. You'll never see a motorcycle being transported with a cover on it travelling down the highway. If you've ever seen someone towing a load with a loose tarp flapping wildly, it is similar to that as not all surfaces and edges can be kept taut, it's really brutal on paintwork.

    I have a Sram PF BB30 and I REALLY, I mean REALLY struggle to get those crank arms off.. Basically I have to undo a bolt (drive side) that's tightened at 54 Nm.. I've tried all my best, even put on it 70-80Kg on it to undo it but still nothing.. It makes a terrible sound and I want to clean it up (I know how) but I can't get those cranks off.. Suggestions?

    • @NeoDerGrose
      @NeoDerGrose 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had to cut my crank arms of one time because I had the same problem. Next time you put some on make sure to put that special grease on it (not sure what it's called, it's blue). The same goes for the pedals. These parts get tighter over time, so the 54 Nm wouldn't be enough to loosen your cranks anymore.

    • @MicheleNardovideos
      @MicheleNardovideos 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I managed to do it once by myself.. Then I tried it again 6 months later and nothing.. Took it to Specialized dealer.. now after just 2 months of normal riding (I have an enduro bike and still don't have the opportunity to go out on the real trails so I'm stuck at street riding and just be creative) it's dirty and starts to creak a lot.. If I clean the bike, it stays quiet for 2-3km and then starts to get noisy again...

    I have a BB like this on my CX bike it comes loose on a regular basis though i got both frame and several expensive BBs new. This is a total bullshit system if it does not even work on a CX bike then i don´t even want to try a MTB with pressfit BBs. Even in my LBS they told me that theyhave nothing but problems with these most people buying a bike with pressfit BBs come back to them pretty soon because it either creeks or comes loose and deforms. I won´t be buying any frame using one of these anymore for sure.

    Probably 1 of the worst inventions in biking world...press-fit BB

      bitumen83 I wouldn't say a bad invention, but it should've been replaced w threaded on all high end bikes by now.... why are some companies switching BACK to press fit? I'm shopping for a new bike, but everything i like turns out to be press fit! Dammit!!!

      @@Dude-Smellmyhelmet yeah I like the press fit that has a shell that threads into itself it’s very good but all other press guy’s I’ve used gave me problems over time so always get the ones that thread into them self’s in the frame and you should be dialed!

    Our cat apparently wants to know how to service a pressfit BB, because he started this video while I left my phone on the bed 🙄

    You're not supposed to reuse Shimano pressfit bearings.

      Craig Jervis I would suggest not using them in the first place

  • @orbea42

    Step 1: Realize that you spent money on the wrong bike because that is exactly what you did wrong.
    Step 2: Throw the bike away or sell it to someone who doesn't know a thing about bikes.
    Step 3: Buy a bike with a threaded bottom bracket.
