The versatility of the hammered dulcimer is amazing
I mean... it sounds like something that you hear in heaven
This is definitely my favourite way to hear that song. Theres a long tradition of finding music you appreciate and reinterpreting it to add something of yourself... The dulcimer is so delicate and ethereal but sets out the template for the way this tune is going to go and also provides the heart of the song, at times when the notes climb upwards it sends a chill down my spine. An unusual and unfamiliar instrument played by a true musician. Total class.

This gives the instrument new relevance. Playing tunes like this will encourage younger people to take up the instrument since they won't feel they'll be stuck playing old Irish tunes.

Superb, is it all dulcimer, it sounds almost like there is a strummed guitar or mandolin rhythm but maybe that is just as a string instrument?
He does have a guitar backing track that he is playing. I forget if it is his son or his friend backing.

Hi there! The notes are actually printed on a stick that is then attached to the top of the dulcimer with Velcro. 🙂
