That "Nothing more satisfying than building your own truck" statement is 100% true. I've got a tow truck based off a scale metal chassis and a Mojave body but so much custom work that its its own new thing and it is now my favorite truck by far.
Right on!
Agreed
Praise the wheel
Trucks are looking awesome. Thanks for sharing the journey!
Thanks for watching!
I'm anxiously waiting to see how the leaf sprung rig does! I think you did a great job with the build! It looks awesome! Everyone is building the moon buggy. Yours, I'm sure will be a stand out! It's different. I like different.
Thanks so much!
Gathering up parts to try and scratch build my first one not from a kit. Might just wait to get the files from Josh's buggy build when he releases them.
Fabulous builds!
Nice looking trucks, good luck on the competition 🙋🏻♂️
Thanks 👍
Great progress, things are looking great! I agree, nothing beats building something from the ground up that is literally unique to the world.
Very true!
Both buggies look killer matt, well done👍
First off, while building kits is fun. You are absolutely correct that there is nothing better than making your own. I used to do random bodies and make a known chassis work for a long time. But between RC Everyday and Waffles RC my frames now look better than ever.
First rig- Either that mesh is so far off it almost sounds like 64-pitch vs 48-pitch gears(yes 80s builder here that made that mistake). Or you do have a gear of each pitch on the truck.
Second rig - Find that loose screw before it hits the trail. Cause when you lose it out there EVERY ONE will be looking for what's missing. Even if they're not missing anything.
I have done a couple hundred bodies over the years, but only a dozen or so chassis from scratch.
Thank you to Mr and Mrs Build for taking time for our comments!
They are coming out great!!!
Those buggies look great already.
I wish one that can build one at least close to that quality.
Keep the good work
Thanks 👍
I totally agree that building your own truck is much more fun. I've got TRX4, which is very capable, yet my handmade truck still gives me more satisfaction 😅
Well said!
Both the trucks look great, good luck in colorado 🤘🍻🤘
Thanks 👍
that f toy is awesome!
Billy Joel "Pressure"
Please let that copper oxidize. 🙏🏻 I love how patina'd my copper panel wraith is. Or, hit it with a satin clear after you polish it. 🤠
What a blessing to be able to build a rig like that and go to a competition that is awesome
Agreed!
Wish I had half the talent
I built an almost all metal TRX4. It's only 10% Traxxas. I built it as a trail truck, but it climbs way better that I expected. I also used scale hardware everywhere. It's a great rig.
Sounds great!
Those are some good-looking rigs! Hope you have a great time wheeling them.
I've never built any kits. I'm too scared to try to find and program a radio and receiver, servo, motor, trans, etc. RTR works for me!
They are coming along pretty nicely. Way better than anything I could do.
Thank you! Just takes practice!
That FToy is awesome!
Thank you!
Nice work love the attention to detail and the way you and Josh work together. Good luck.
Awesome, thank you!
Ftoy looks great! Would love to see some brazing videos as I hope to start soon on my learning path
Thanks for the suggestion!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I designed and built a ti caged buggy with what originally was a capra. This was all primitive with graphing paper and hand tools and hand files and such with about 60 or more hours of my time designing bending and notching. It was not cheap to get my local welder to weld it but it turned out pretty great and the performance faaaarrrrrr surpasses my expectations being a very planted and capable 4ws buggy. It is a line slayer and very realistic. I just need an interior now and it will be legit
Sounds amazing! Worth all the effort!
Nice rigs,it feels so much better when you build them, love kits, thanks for sharing your trcks with us,good luck in the competition!!!
Thank you!
I’m not going to mention it’s of center. But man that copper looks good!
Thank you!
You can program the MT12 for 4WS, rws, & crab just with pushing one switch like regular surface transmitters. It might take you another week like it did myself but when your done your done. Any other vehicles that need 4ws you can just copy that and you always have four wheel steer it’s much easier… my opinion still great content on a time crunch.
Yep, I opted to NOT set that up, as I don't want the additional complications, and possible mistaken button pressing!
Just finished building a 10th scale replica of my jeep and it turned out awsome
That's so great!
Nice video Matt. Hello Rebecca.
Hello!
that dig linkage looks alot straighter than it did
built over 30 trucks, and loved every one, yours is looking great, you got this!!!!!!
Thank you!
Fantastic job!
Both trucks turned out awesome, the acid etching is a pretty sweet touch.
Thank you!
I am planning to do a build, I've just about finished converting an old revo to electric and will be getting my own 3d printer soon.
For me I enjoy the tinkering more so than the driving.
Sounds great!
Dat FTOY is fantastic 👏 👌 Love it.
Thanks 👍
Looking good all you need now is some just for men and a wobble pop so you can relax
Maybe 3 wobble pops!
The moon buggy build is the first ground up build I’ve done, plenty of kits. It’s definitely been my favorite project, the whole experience has been great.
That's awesome! Glad to hear it!
I stopped having fun on my latest hard body paint job.. but that's because I had to have 4 different colours. VW harlequin patina.. failures haha
ALL HAIL THE WHEEL!!! 🤣
you need to bring the wheel back.. that was so much fun..(well, for us anyway) 😂
"the wheel"?
What are you referring to?
We will! We'll bring it back for the next challenge most likely!
Check the last challenge with Josh and I!
Pretty much everything I build is from scratch. I kinda feel not building from scratch is a waste of money since you end up changing pretty much everything other than the frame anyway. I’m on like 7 or 8 now, with shocks, axles, rims and tires for at least another 2 upcoming builds.
The transmission is no longer isolated from the chassis. That is why you get the added noise.
Others who have built it aren't having the same noise, but I have an idea of what it might be!
Well fine, I wasn’t doing anything else… so I guess I’ll watch your video! 😂 lol great video.
😂
If you even have any shock oil in the f-toy it might need to be thicker, seems bouncy
Good video man! I have a 24ish scLe and 10th scale build planned. However, I bought a new house, so most of my free time and money is going into it. Hopefully will start building around September. 😊
Congrats on the new house! The hobby will be waiting for you when you're settled in!
@scalebuildersguild also now have 1 and half acres, so I will build my own crawler course. Can't wait!
🤩amazing nice rig 👍💪🛻
Glad you like it!
Now you see why there is nothing like a 10PX super simple.
Cool builds, have you tried or heard of the piece of paper trick for setting gear mesh? Its what I use, just a small piece of paper in between the gears and tighten and remove paper.
It wasn’t the mesh. It was a much larger and difficult issue, but it’s sorted now. I’ll explain next week.
@@scalebuildersguild glad you got it sorted.
I use the gt5 with thumb steer for front and the top channel 6 knob for rear steer so I can put it where I want it
cool!
Dude you did such a good job I love the color I love everything you done with it if you ever want to sell it let me know I mean of course unless you want like four or five thousand dollars
I have always wanted to build a 4 wheel steer buggy and hope to start brazing a cage this year but I'm deciding if I want to braze a cage for a ladder chassis or go the other route
No Duffman driving the Duff beer-mobile?
Tbh it doesnt sound like its rubbing it sounds like something is bound up
I have my first cage build running. It takes a 2200 mah battery which suits my needs for daily walking/ hill climbing. No steering wheel yet . At the planing stage of a smaller cage for another vehicle that will have servo on axle and a tiny battery. Sorry I don’t know why the gears are so loud. Just wondering as both vehicles are sounding loud have you used a different brand of pinion on these builds?
I fixed the noise!
@scalebuildersguild im thinking about doing a AR60/2.2 swap on my element trailrunner. Any thoughts or concerns? Love your content btw!!
What do they say a sheet of paper and as long as it don't rip
i ve built like 10 trx`s, but now i am looking for something else, what would u recommend ?
;))
Vanquish VS4-10!
seems to be the right choice now, but this buggy "optic"is sweet as hell ❤❤❤❤
That jimmy buggy just doesn't seem squared up very good. 😂 also is the weighted servo in the rear going to be an issue with weight distribution
Josh obviously gave me the factory second. I don't mind a little extra weight in the rear. No weighted knuckles, so this will do just fine!
@@scalebuildersguild good point
Spur gear might be to tight and making that sound or if there adjustments on the motor mount try that
It's not the mesh, I'm tearing down tonight to sort it out though!
@@scalebuildersguild hopefully you get it figured out and good luck hope Josh dose not yell at you to much
@@scalebuildersguild Hey man, I saw this, and was thinking that maybe you ought to dab some extra grease in the transmission. And if the noise is still there try to use Team Associated Micro Motor oil on the motor bearings, I've gotten a couple of "crunchy sounding" motors that just needed a little grease in the motor bearings at the pinion side and the wired side where the shaft for the motor spins. Make sure you use "electric motor oil" Team Associated (Micro Motor Oil/Small Applicator bottle), and only on the bearings. I don't know the reason why, but it seems like a lot of the manufacturers are "forgetting" the quality control steps like this, and we end up with the crunchy/friction sounds.
hope it helps man, have fun in Colorado!
I think some Dredgers would look awesome on the Jimmy buggy, but it looks really great. Nice job!
If you ever sell that buggy let me know
What’s the story behind one gold wheel lug per wheel ?
It’s a gold tooth. I’ve been doing it forever, and I like to do silly things.
Just a question why wouldn't you put the brass one on the front
Because it’s not as strong.
Hiw do you get all your shocks to mive so smoothly? Ive rebuilt a few of mine and they all have so much stiction before they cycle a few times.
Your guess is as good as mine. Good quality shocks don’t tend to stick.
That noise. Is your pinion too far out from your motor? So the spur is rubbing on the shank of the pinion?
Negative, but thanks for the suggestion. I think it might be the actual out runner rubbing against the faux motor case.
Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to scratch build my own one day. I'm currently building a bomber from parts from china
Looking to design my own chassis any pointers? It will be more of a street basher rather than a crawler tho
I don’t have much experience with actual chassis design, much smarter people than me do that, WITH MATH! Ha!
That’s what I’m realizing 😂😂😂
What shock is that on the Jimmy build? Thx
Pricey’s Customs
Do u have a spacer between outrunner and skid? Might be ur noise
Noise has been. Sorted, thanks!
What caused it if u don’t mind?
@@user-ho5vm9rv1e It's nothing serious, my DIY output shaft needed a tweak.
Where in Colorado?
Morrison, CO
It’s no shock at all that you are waiting on JEC parts. He’s never on time and there are always excuses.
I'm learning that...still waiting!
Soooo... What if you paint the servo in a brass colored paint!? Lmao 🤣
I'd paint my WHOLE truck in brass ... Call her the MISS BRASSY...
Wait.. electro plate it! 😂
😂
Don't be that guy who brings the super Hot girl and then can't get it up.
Rebecca, if you're reading all of these comments about Matt's F-Toy... It's not what you think.
Ha! I know!
Literally the HOA of RC crawler competition and that's why I don't do it. It's not fun, it's a bunch of BS rules for tiny off-road. Washington is one of the worst of course. I'd just keep it simple regardless
Cool video up until you showed the Waffle house logo again. Everything got blurry and hazy afterwards since I was compelled to down a 12 pack of PBR and now I have a black eye and have several trespassing charges.
Ha! Waffle House is a very classy place 😂
Comp rules: no brass servos or knuckles
Matt: paints brass servo and knuckles
😂😂 cheater
As a video professional, you really need to work on your depth of field and focus points. I love your content but the focus is getting too annoying for a man as clever and capable as you. You must have chums at work who understand this stuff and can show you the settings…
I don't disagree with you. It's something I need to focus on for the bench videos, and I know what to do, I'm just a bit overloaded at the moment. Thanks for the reminder!
@@scalebuildersguildfocus on. I see what you did there!
Bro....disappointed you didn't go with the leather look. 😐🫤 Looks great, regardless. 👍🏼
You're confusing me with Josh, I was never doing that.
@scalebuildersguild maybe. Lol I was for sure you were doing it. Lol maybe not....my bad. 🤦🏼♂️
Matt, you may want to double check your link lengths. When you first drove it on the squares, it looked like it was dog tracking, aka the rear end is not behind the front end on center. Like the rear was going a slightly different direction.
This may have been because the rear steering was not tweaked to be on the same center path.
It’s rear steer, thanks!
I thoroughly enjoy your channel. Your attention to detail is outstanding and I’ve learned a few tricks of the trade from you as well. Appreciate it sLim 🫡
Thank you! Glad you enjoy it!
